For my husband's 50th birthday, I had made plans to have a late lunch in Little Italy (DaNico's), check in at The Michelangelo Hotel on 51st St and then head to the theatre (Mama Mia). Everything was amazing until he decided that he was just a little hungry after the show. I hadn't checked on where to eat locally. Obviously, as a true New Yorker, we avoided the tourist-trapping restaurants like TGIF. When I saw the tavern, I thought that it was probably a good choice. WRONG!! The guy out front (who must think that everyone's a tourist) couldn't get you in there fast enough. You go upstairs and some young girl finally comes over and seats you. Mind you, this is not dinner time -- it's practically midnight. Being that I wasn't hungry, I ordered a drink (margarita without salt -- but, you guessed it, it came with salt). He ordered a captain morgan with diet coke (asked for no ice but, of course, it was brimming to the top with ice!). Also, he ordered a burger with fries (nothing special here, folks). After waiting an eternity for the burger, it took another 15 minutes to get the check. Then after waiting at least another 10 minutes to pay, my husband got up and had to look for her. She then took his money and we had to wait a while longer to get our change. Talk about rude -- not caring. I guess they feel that as long as they have the tourists who are willing to overpay on anything they don't need to worry about the people who actually live here and might want to come back a second time. Well, don't worry. We won't be back. Hopefully, everyone else reads this before they go here.
Pros: the air conditioner was on
Cons: everything else
