Great location!

by Luey at Citysearch

This hotel was very welcoming, glass of champagne in check-in was nice welcome. Room was small but they had paid attention to detail to make customers stay enjoyable - massaging chair was great, thick bathrobe, Aveda toiletries, newspaper even on Sundays. Food is expensive but there are great restaurants almost accross the street. Location is wonderful.

  • Pros: location, massaging chair
  • Cons: expensive parking

Thorns and Roses of the Shoreham from an average guy.

by M and M Maltese at Citysearch

The Roses - We stayed in a Queen deluxe. I chose this hotel as part of a package deal from Travelocity. It is listed as a luxury hotel and is a great hotel if you are spending a few days as a tourist. The hotel has recently been remodeled and is in great condition. Located on W 55th makes it a short walk to to everything midtown, Central Park and Broadway. Plus it's close to MOMA, The Rock, and the main Subway lines (53rd and 5th E line) that lead through the heart of Manhattan. There is a variety of restaurants on W 55th from extravagant to quick). We stayed in the East wing ( the right side of the building facing the front) and the room was nice. The shower was great with great water pressure, but don't turn it all the way up or it won't drain fast enough. Aveda products are nice too. Free tea, coffee, cappuccino, espresso are nice on your way out in the mornings or at night. Bellhop was helpful and the front desk staff was nice and helpful.

The Thorns- The cleaning staff was SO BAD! Every morning at 7:45, the cleaning staff would start yelling, singing, laughing, and slamming doors. The room doors do not provide any sound protection from the hall, so it is very loud in the mornings. When I approached the cleaning staff about the noise, they were quiet for about 10 minutes and went right back to the noise. Management was notified every day for a week and the noise never stopped. The cleaning staff also never replaced our toiletries ever! We had to ask the front desk for a new bar of soap and our drinking glasses were never replaced, cleaned or even moved from the sink after we used them. The work center computers never worked the entire week. The elevators took 5 minutes to come get you from any floor and were only large enough for two people.

Conclusion- Great hotel if you are not expecting the Waldorf or The Plaza but a place to crash while visiting the city. I would go back to this hotel if I could get a promise of a quiet room and new soap when I run out.

USED to be great.

by malexan at Citysearch

I don't know what happened. This used to be a great boutique hotel. They used to upgrade me all the time. I remember at the hight of this they put me in a penthouse sweet. Then the next stay it was as if they had forgot their regular cliental. The air-conditioning was broken they tried to fix it a few times and got nowhere. Did they offer me another room? NO. There was a package that I asked to be delivered three times nothing. It WILL be the last time I stay. Something changed must be in the management.

  • Pros: Great locations and nice rooms.
  • Cons: Service is amateur at best.

Bad service/theft problem

by pukalani at Citysearch

Bad service: hotel reservation specifics not honored: room requested and reserved was not available. Theft problem:

IPod was stolen from the room. Manager did not acknowledge theft and did not offer to followup.

I would tell anyone that this hotel has an "attitude" of "that's not our problem" so would not recommend to anyone!

  • Pros: Good location
  • Cons: Bad service and theft problem

Great location, OK Hotel

by asian23 at Citysearch

The Shoreham is located in a great spot if you are visiting NYC. They are a bit overpriced for what you get, but the desk staff was friendly enough when we checked in. (Keep in mind the pictures on the site make your room look bigger than it is.) And the included breakfast is not much, my husband had to eat somewhere afterwards and the staff in the restaurant was short-handed so we got very little svc.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: Overpriced, Avg Breakfast

Horrible experience

by jrhuemer at Citysearch

My wife and I booked a spa-tacular getaway package at the Shoreham Hotel for Mother's Day weekend. Despite the fact that this package included guaranteed 12 noon check-in, the desk clerk informed us that our room would not be ready until at least 3pm. That didn't work especially well with the spa treatments that we'd booked to begin at 3pm and threw the entire day's schedule into disarray. Clearly the Shoreham staff didn't especially care and viewed the situation as our problem, not theirs. Their solutions (we could hang out in the lobby, we could have a worse room than the one we booked) were pathetic. In the end, we chose to cut our losses and leave. Not sure what Shoreham management thinks guaranteed means. On behalf of my wife, thanks for a great Mother's Day Shoreham!

Nice little place in Midtown

by joecusanelli at Citysearch

My wife and I stayed at the Shoreham for a NYC weekend getaway. The hotel was small and older, but was nice. We were upgraded to a newly renovated luxury suite. The room was large by NYC standards, with a seating area and a sleeping area, but there was no view. The room was equipped with two plasma TVs, but they were only hooked up to antenna service and the reception was poor. But we did not pay $500/night to watch TV anyway. The hotel had a very cool shower with 5 showerheads squirting from all directions and a tub/spa. The shampoo was Aveda brand, which I never heard of, but my wife was impressed. But the best thing was the complimentary cappuccino bar.

  • Pros: complimentary cappucc, the 5 headed shower, plasma TV
  • Cons: no view, no parking

A great find in mid-town!

by CBNassan at Citysearch

What a great find! Reasonable prices, great location, clean, modern rooms that are very comfortable, and self-serve lattes in the lobby. Bathroom was spacious and comfortable, and the complimentary Aveda products were an extra perk. Loved my stay at the Shoreham - I would recommend this hotel.

  • Pros: Cool, modern look, Great location , Great value

Retro boutique lodgings located in Midtown.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Boutique hotel restorer Bernard Goldberg originally took this once-Spartan lodging and gave it a stylish 1930s retro look that made it popular with the fashion and advertising crowds. More recently, the property was renovated yet again with nice results. The small but elegant lobby boasts stainless steel, marble, frosted-glass panels and Winold Reiss murals. It also has a 24-hour self-service coffee bar and serves complimentary breakfast.

The Details
The original 84 rooms are spacious and chic, with back-lit, perforated stainless-steel headboards, earth-toned furnishings and such amenities as VCRs and CD players. An additional 90 rooms have been added and are also furnished in modern style, but they have ultrasuede padded headboards and baths set off by shoji-style translucent walls. The Shoreham Restaurant & Bar serves French-Asian cuisine.

BLACKOUT 2003

by salky at Citysearch

I wanted to write this to let everyone know how much I, and others appreciated the kindness from the entire Shoreham staff. I was booked already in the hotel and checked out the day of the blackout. When the airports were closed for obvious reasons. I headed back to the only place I knew, the Shoreham. They had my original room for me along with many others that seemed to have done exactly what I did. A personal escort was conducted along with giving out candles so that the guests were not without light. I even witnessed the the hotel employees setting up food for the guests complimentary. I have to say that while faced with a disaster, The Shoreham really pulled through. Each time I come to New York this is always the hotel I choose, and this will continue to be the hotel of choice.
