Imagine going into a place and forgetting that you just go bumped into or ran a flight of stairs to catch a train. That is the feeling you get when you enter this Spa. It is quiet and staff treats you as if you are the only person there, that is special. The service is great staff explain and answer your questions. They want you to relax and take in the experience, I love it and I took my daughter for her 21st Birthday and they made the experience an unforgettable one. She even received a goody bag. Thanks Dorit for making it such a special occasion. You got her hooked.

Pros: Ambience, Staff, Service

Cons: Busy

I enjoyed a few treatments here including a massage, facial and scrub. I had the greatest massage with Chin. Most times I request a women but Chin made me feel very comfortable. He is a great asset to the spa!! My scrub with Carman was awesome! I had heard many great things about this treatment and glad I got it. I felt soo silky. Carman was very professional and sweet. I also enjoyed my facial with Akiko. She was very informative about my concerns and gave me a great shoulder massage. Please enjoy these treatments when you visit.

Pros: great treatments

I had a very poor experience at this spa. I made an appointment for the Classic European Facial ($79). However, the day of the appointment I was very ill. I called to see if I could reschedule, as I was quite contagious and didn't want to infect the other patrons or the aesthetician, and was told that under no circumstances was I allowed to cancel -- my aesthetician had been booked for that time and I was required to show up. No matter how much I protested and said I didn't want to get her sick, I was just told time and time again that I would be charged for not showing up and there were no cancellations. So I went, and proceeded to cough throughout my appointment. During the appointment, the aesthetician said what she was using/doing, never asking whether I wanted any addons. So imagine my surprise when I walked up to the counter and was told my facial was over $100 -- there had been many addons throughout the facial, none of which had been discussed in terms of costing more money. They had all just been presented as what happened during the facial. I am very displeased with this spa and the level of professionalism and courtesy shown here. I will not be returning.

Every time I'm feeling like I need a renewal or a cleansing of my blackheads, I come in and the staff at Dorit Baxter take excellent care of me. In fact, my roommates always ask why I look like I'm glowing for the week after...I have this spa to thank for that- they seem to really know what they're doing with diff skin types. I highly recommend it for anyone who's feeling the affects of the season change or an unusual breakout- they'll clean you up and arm you with a regimen so you can continue treatments at home.

Pros: Ambience, intelligent staff, useful products for home use

I went to Dorit Baxter for a facial on Sunday and enjoyed it to the fullest extent. It was my first facial and they really made the experience enjoyable. At first I was hesitant because I'm particular about what I put on my face, but the outcome was great. The esthetician talked to me throughout the facial and let me know what exactly she was using and what the product was good for. In addition to talking she also gave me somewhat of a massage on my neck, shoulders and hands. The experience was therapeutic and relaxing .. plus very affordable compared to other spas in the city. I will definitely return.

In desperate need of a foot massage last Friday I Googled for one, and came across Dorit Baxter New York Day Spa on 57th Street. From reviewing the website I saw they had the Foot Massage- Reflexology service, as well as the Foot Paraffin treatment- I really needed both! Prices were reasonable after I compared them to some other spa’s online, so I booked my appointment. When I got there I immediately liked what I was- they are located on the 3rd floor in a quaint spot with a street view. I am all about the ambience- I loved the sheering hanging curtains, comfy chairs by the window set on a wooden platform (almost like a loft) with the pitcher of lime mint water on the table, and nice art work around. Once you check in you change into a generous sized robe that covers you (I have been to spa’s where the robes barely cover your behind!), and slippers with a smiley face. Dorit, the owner, came to offer me and another client cheese and crackers as we waited, which I thought was nice. My foot massage therapist, Kawai, is from Hawaii – a lovely lady- that offers a great massage for your aching feet! Afterwards, I got a foot paraffin treatment from Clara that leaves your feet feeling like a baby’s bottom. (I recommend this service to runner’s like me, or any one that is on their feet a lot.) I have gone to several spa’s in the US and abroad, and Dorit Spa definitely has the combined feeling of a Bliss Spa and a private spa. I highly recommend to anyone that wants a nice place to go to relax and be pampered. Enjoy!!

Pros: Tranquil Atmosphere

I was going to Dorit B for about 1 year when my usual "waxer" quit. The last two times I was given a short woman (Maria - I think???) who did a poor job. Not only did she do a poor job but she charged me 2 additional fees without telling me anything about them. I asked for a Bikini in additional to my usual full leg. I had to direct her to clean up areas over and over again. I thought I was working with this woman, who was obviously inexperienced. To add insult to injury, when I left I found out I was being charged for 2 additional services...now that was not my first time having a bikini there so the different charges threw me off. I do not mind paying for service rendered, but paying more money than I had several times before for POOR service and something that I was never charged for (and without warning) is unacceptable. The woman (either the owner or manager) knows me and did not attempt to rectify the situtation. No apologies from her or any concern at all from the front desk. In fact, she attempted to have a discussion about my bikini area at the front desk in front of other customers (NOT AT ALL PROFESSIONAL). Fair to say I will not be back. Be consistant, and when the service is faltering, don't decide to nickel and dime a regular customer. Apologize, explain the charges and perhaps waive it for that trip but let me know it will apply in the future. I opted to pay for a brazilian instead of the 2 additional fees, (because I think its ridiculous to nickle and dime people). I won't go on. I will just say, they, as many salons in the area, could use customer service training. I understand that prices change but this was not a price change nor a service change, if anything I should have been giving a discount for the "waxers" short comings. For now, I continue my quest for a great place for a waxs! I think I will start requesting the servicers home phone numbers :) I will follow great people all over manhattan!

Pros: reasonable prices

Cons: need more good people in the front and in the back
