i went to go buy my boyfriend a gift for his birthday , he wanted the jackspade bookbag for school, so i found it their, no one offered to help me, these guys there looked like air head concided modles, when it came time to pay i had to wait for the guy at the register to finish his conversation with the other employee, then they tell me they dont have gift boxes to go down stairs and ask the men their, so i go and ask and they snapped at me, they were like go back where you bought them and ask for a box, i explained that where i bought it they directed me downstairs and he said well your not egtting a box from me! i cant belive the attitude , i was so furious the man had me in tears, by far the worst shopping experience iv ever had in my life and everyone their shoyuld be fired...i bet if i walked in with a black card they'd kiss up!
Pros: non
Cons: all the cons you can imagin A-Z ,(this message originally contained 100 curses they made me delete!)

I dont usually write reviews. But I agree with the poster, about the sales asscoiates who dont know their merchandise, or cant be bothered. ( Trust, me I think Barneys is the absolute best fashion store in the universe...the NYC one, not all the other barneys are as fab!!!) I have some Teri Bienvenue earrings purchased at the Barneys in Seattle, WA a while back. Mind you they had only a few of her pieces but they were there. She isnt a big name designer or anything, or maybe a one time thing, so her name may not be to forthcoming. However at the NYC Barneys I had asked to be directed to the Gabrielle Sanchez Jewelry, the sales associate initially said.."um...I dont think we have it..." Maybe she should have read the name inside one of the Jewelry Cases. she was standing in front of. I mean, come on !!! Gabrielle Sanchez has a seprate part of a jewelry case..with her name in metallic letters within the case, and the sales gal was telling me "NO I dont think we have it "? That is pure nonsense. Other than the forementioned uniformed sales associate I experienced, Barneys is still the greaaaaaatest shopping experiences of life. Great clothes, great jewelry, and for the most part great great service. I love their cosmetics department the best, small ,but the associates/make up artists are all well informed on their product lines, and when they apply make up on your face, they make you look fabulous, and not like a call girl or something !!! The gorgeous Bobbi Brown ladies are my faves ! That's my rant, over. Annie...fashion police.
Pros: C'mon !!!! It's BARNEYS. !!!! Fashion Mecca of the universe. Fabulous merchandise always !!!
Cons: None. I love the plase. Will be buried there if allowed. Bobbi Brown gals to do make up !!! LOL....

I love Barney's !!! It is truly the greatest clothing/fashion accessories store in the universe. Great quality, the buyers have great taste.GREAT SHOES ! I go there at least once a month when on business in NYC ! Last November I purchased a Teri Bienvenue Necklace, and earrings, suggested by a sales associate to match a dress I also purchased for a cocktail party. Very recently I inquired about the jewlery designer, and was rudely told "her line isnt here it's only at bergdorfs", which is untrue. I know I purchased the jewelry at Barneys, I am not an idiot, i know where I buy things, and I dont go to bergdorfs unless with my mother....LOL.... I dont expect sales stafff to know every item in the place, or the name of every designer represented at Barneys, but I always thought that the staff was their to assist patrons, not repramand them. Dont worry, I made her feel like more of a fool, than she tried to do to me. ( Had the sales slip, with the item number...I wanted another to give as a birthday gift to a friend who really loved the set i got). Then the sales girl who helped me picked the jewelry out in november emerged and she did remember the purchase, sort of. This is my only "bad" experience at Barneys New York . But it is still my favorite store of all time...just ignore moody sales staff, and find an associate who isnt having a bad day.
Pros: Layout of the store is pleasing.
Cons: Sales staff not always knowledgeable about merchandise based on my recent visit.

As a former New Yorker I am disappointed by the tiny Barney's here in Seattle so it gave me great pleasure to bring my friends to the "Real" Barney's on a recent trip to NYC. Even though I was snubbed for asking to see a Prada purse and then not purchasing it (god forbid) and my friend had a similar experience with another saleswoman, Nefertiya made it all better by going out of her way to find the perfect jeans for both of us! She even offered to send things to us here in Seattle after the other girl told us they "don't do that" (yeah right). Thanks for your help!
Pros: Great selection, Best designers
Cons: some snotty help

Barneys is great for young and innovative fashion. Even if you are into older, more established labels, the buyer seems to lean towards the brighter and/or edgy pieces. The house brand is great. It has maintained season after season of wearable and well made clothing. It's more conservative, but always classic. The bad things about Barneys: saleswomen in Jewelry are comatosed and not very friendly. The younger floors are always messy, esp the jeans area.

I love clothes, I love NYC and I love shopping and Barneys is my top destination for menswear, accessories, womenswear and gifts. For years, the buyers at Barneys have managed to put together exquisitely selected collections of formal, informal and sports clothing, shoes, skincare, scents, etc. The layout of the store is simple, clean and easy to navigate. The sales staff is usually very helpful, but you rarely get the hard sell here, only helpful advise. Sales are very regular and I have found many great bargains here. Barney's Co-op range is affordable and incredibly well made and fashionable. I just wish they never closed their original store in Chelsea.
Pros: selection, staff, sales
