great!

by jng

I went there in april 2009 with my fiance. We had the chef tasting menu which was a few more courses than the regular tasting menu. It was AMAZING!!! Every course was different but the transition from one to the next was great. The squab was really good!! We also added a cheese course and our head waiter helped us pick the cheese. I'm not a cheese person, but it was the BEST BEST cheese experience. And the dessert course for me was superb. I have a HUGE sweet tooth and it satisfied me. Oh, and they gave me an additional dessert with a birthday candle! A nice touch.

One more thing to mention--the service was FANTASTIC! they are so attentive and cleaned our table after every single course. really great.

Overall, everything met my high expectations. I had heard great things about this restaurant and it exceeded the expectations.

The best. period.

by LeeLee74

If you are looking for excellent original, and frankly, orgsmc food? Visit Daniels. The food is amazing and the service is the best in NYC. My husband and I have been here several times and we have never been disappointed. Worth every penny

  • Cons: Preferred original decor, not so much a fan of the new modern decor

Recommended, with some reservations.

by mr_meursault

We came here for dinner, with a reservation (a must). We were seated immediately, but told that we would have to be out within two hours for the next seating. Also, because we had an early dinner we could not be seated in the prime area as those seats were reserved for the 8 p.m. seating. As a result we had to sit on the side and be routinely bumped by waiters carrying food back and forth. We had the tasting menu, which consisted of five courses and a dessert. The five courses were excellent and most were quite creative. Overall, they probably proved to be the best dinner we've had in New York. The dessert, however, was terrible. It was not just subpar, but essentially inedible. Luckily we were not very hungry at that point. The wine recommended to us was made at the Restaurant's vineyard and was very good. Having left the restaurant we discussed the meal and decided that although it was an excellent meal, if was five times the price of our next best alternative and the minor improvement in quality was not worth the price. It is, however, a beautiful restaurant with excellent food and may very well be an excellent idea for a special occasion splurge.

wonderful

by eemeliaa

In a known for its restaurants, Daniel is a stand out. I wish the menu were more extensive, but everything on it is amazing. Its the kind of restaurant where you're sitting back thinking you've had a perfect dining experience . Wine selection is very good (with a very good sommelier). Reservations are a must. A favorite for more than a decade.

Best French in NY

by jhyumn

Truely gareat French in New York. Daniel deserves absolute 5 stars. I don't understand why he doesn't get what he deserves from so called major critics. Bad PR?

Some Enchanted Evening

by contempler

A throughly enjoyable evening, from cocktails through dessert, everything was spectacular. The menu last evening included the opportunity to try a duo of Hudson Valley Rabbit (roasted saddle with flageolets and braised leg fleishnacke with wilted chard), crispy Calf's Head Ballotine with Orleans mustard, flaked Atlantic Cod with cumin-carrot puree, or roasted Liberty Farm Duck Breast with bing cherries (I've only listed the main courses ordered by my table). The service was attentive without being overbearing, and the three courses were evenly spaced. I am far from being a world traveler, but this dinng experience is second only to Charlie Trotters in Chicago and that says alot.

5 Stars!

by WolfBrad

I came here with a couple of friends for a nice weekday dinner. We had three course prix fixe dinner $105. I had the trio of sea scallops, oven baked dover sole and bittersweet chocolate praline cremeu. All were delicious.

I think fingers would have been speared with a fork had anyone tried to go for more than that.

Great service, friendly staff, and great food. whee!

I'll be going back real soon.

Spot On

by lasikchic2020

We celebrated our 1st anniversary here & was not disappointed. From the moment we walked in, we were completely cared for. The dinner was a delightful experience and the chef's attention to detail remarkable. Everything tasted amazing: the trio scallop ceviche each had a refreshing yet savory flavor. The due abalone were both delish, altho I preferred the baked vs fried version. Would totally recommend the due aged beef, it was a perfect progression. My favorite were the canapes, each had it's own personality & a wonderful start to a delicious evening. The service was impeccable and made for a v special nite. Would love to return for the 6-course tasting!

  • Pros: Service, Food, Ambiance, Attention to detail, Wine list
  • Cons: Only one: No reservations beyond a month in advance & even then preferred time slot was booked
