Horrible group party
by mikenmass2000
I can only list a few things here. We booked a party for 50. They set up for maybe 40 and it was miss matched tables, and chairs. It was crammed in a room designed for maybe 25 and they used deep lounge chairs for seating at the dinner tables. The servers were stupidly rude, food came out here and there and no one ate together at the same time. One time around for water and no refills, no clean utensils for the desert which we had to serve ourselves. No coffee offered, no nothing. It was the worst reserved group party I have ever seen. Nothing was good about it.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: everything
Tastes Like Home Cooking!
by NYfoodie1234
I went for dinner with a friend last night. We both had the tomato fennel soup and it was perfect! I also had the Chocolate Molten Cake.. yum! Even the presentation was fabulous. After dinner, we headed down to see what the cigar lounge was all about. It was really great! We listened to live Jazz and relaxed on their super comfortable chairs. Definitely coming back soon!
Everything here is delicious...

Everything here is delicious!
My goat cheese salad was wonderful - just the right amount of dressing and flavor ! For my main entree, I ordered the filet mignon. The meat was absolutely perfect and the sauce was incredible. And of course who can pass up dessert? I highly recommend the Tiramisu.
- Pros: food,desert
just good

Merchants is a lot of hype. I love trying new foods and am open to a lot of new things, but I felt Merchants just tried too hard to be different with their menu. It seemed like the menu was selected to extract a reaction of "oooh, that's so weird and exotic".
Their lobster shooter were good, but not amazing. If you like lobster, most lobster you have is going to be good. My shrimp salad was well prepared, but it seemed to have a lot of weird ingredients added to it more than anything.
The wait staff was friendly, but overly attentive and not genuine. There was definitely a see and be seen vibe to the whole place. Would I try Merchants again? Sure. As long as someone else is paying the tab.
Candelit Friday

My boyfriend took me here two Fridays ago and I have to say everything was really good. We had the mussels as our appetizers, the broth is so delicious, we kept asking for more bread to dip in it! For dinner, I had the Lobster Club, which was amazing, he had the Sliders, loved all of them - especially the spicy one! Perfect place for a date!
Great Place on UES!

With the few restaurants in this area, I consider myself extremely luck to have found Merchants. Even if I did not live in the area, I would still make the trek here. The food, service and atmosphere is always perfect. I love coming here for dinner, lunch, brunch or even just drinks! There is something for everyone. They truly go above and beyond here.
- Pros: Staff, Bar
Class and Taste at it's best!
by pbf3884
This place is great! The restaurant exudes class and the food is amazing. The prices are just right as well. I have been coming here for three years and will continue to come in the future. The drinks are reallllllllly great, lots of selection and the bartenders really know what they are doing. Come after work and stay for the night or come for the jazz brunch on Sunday. This restaurant really has something for everyone.

Great for meeting up with friends
by abs378
The extensive drink and appetizer menus make Merchants a great spot for meeting out late with friends. The weekend brunch is also fantastic and perfect for large groups. If you don't like a dark romantic atmosphere, I don't recommend it for dinner.
- Pros: Lots of room, fun atmosphere, great selection
- Cons: A little pricy, doesn't get hoppin' until late
