A Cut Above a Diner

We wandered in one evening when we were too tired to cook and were pleasantly surprised. Both the service and food were a notch above typical diner offerings. Entrees are extremely generous and tasty, rival some of those at "nicer" restaurants and come with large salads and a bread basket. We went back the following week and were treated like regulars, with the waiter brining us complimentary appetizers while we perused the menu. The dessert offerings are surprisingly poor for a diner but there are plenty of bakeries nearby to pick up something on the way home. Overall, this place offers a pleasant, tasty meal and a great value.

My father took me here with my family and we had a blast. Despite there being a line, we only waited a few minutes to be seated by a window :-) away from the crying baby on the other side of the restaurant. I kind of felt bad for the people behind us though who actually were seated next to crying baby. I do not think their review will be too bad though, the baby was removed after it regurgitated it's apple sauce just 5 minutes after they were seated. Anyway, our low priced breakfast came warm and just as ordered. We tipped very well and will certainly be back again. In fact, just that next week, my girlfriend and I enjoyed a quiet breakfast again by the window where the crying baby was the week before. Lucky for us, that family left the baby at home.
- Pros: great food, service, and atmosphere
- Cons: crying babies

Years ago I remember watching Broadway Joe Namath eating here as he lived in the neighborhood then. It's a staple for all a diner has to offer. Decent food, very typical, always edible meals at not outrageous prices for the upper east side.

I was there just the other evening after about 20 years without a visit! May I say the food was great, waiter pleasant and accomodating. The whole experience was great compared to the Chelsea diners I have been frequenting. I am very picky and I check for everything ,stains on glasses, dirty forks ,etc. and this was good! No complaints. I don't know why I've been away so long. I will be returning. The bathroom should be a little roomier.

I came in with a friend for lunch. The place was pretty much empty. We were seated somewhere we didn't want to sit, in-between 2 chatty tables, so we moved, and the waiter made a very unpleasant unsatisfied face in our direction. After a few minutes we started ordering. I asked to have greens instead of fries with my sandwich. He said " we don't do that", meanwhile some sandwiches on the list actually came with mixed greens. So I said "charge me extra if you need to, I don't want fries, I want mixed greens" he refused again, saying that the chef in the back will not do that no matter what. So we got up and left. They lost business, for no reason.

This place calls itself a diner, and is open 24/7, but is much nicer than your stock diner. It has a European feel. Their menu is extensive like any diner, but everything is actually good. They have gourmet grilled cheeses and make desserts in-house. Dinner entrees are also very good, and they have a steady brunch crowd. Prices are very reasonable. The walls are mostly floor to ceiling windows, which they open on nice days, so you almost feel like you are sitting outside. If you live in the neighborhood, they are very quick on delivery.
- Pros: Extensive and good menu, reasonable prices
- Cons: So-so service

Finally went to this restaurant on a recommendation from a friend- she said they had a great deal for brunch. Well, you get what you pay for...First of all, they had a line of people waiting to be seated and no organized list, so people were getting seated out of order, and the servers had no idea when someone was seated in their section. So people who were seated after us, had their order taken first. When we finally had our waitress come to our table, she didn't look at us or say a word. Nothing, not even a "can I take your order" I understand if you're busy, but a simple- "sorry 'bout the wait, but thanks for your patience" makes the difference between a good and a bad tip. Our food took forever to come out, and it tasted ok, but by then we were so miffed about the service, it was hard to enjoy the food. They were out of several kinds of pie- which was part of the brunch deal! Maybe if we came when the place was empty then service would have been better, but not ever going back there for brunch again
- Pros: Open and airy decor
- Cons: service, service, service!!!
