Worst wine shop in America

by mgray79

Worst wine shop ever. I tried I couple bottles off their 'Our Picks' list and they were all terrible and overpriced. The Lucas Carton champagne is the worst champagne I have ever tasted, I cant believe it costs 30 bucks plus tax. And the stuff I've tried in their special bins has been a complete disappointment. They might sell Petrus and Haut Brion, but for everyone buying at my price point-- absolutely horrible. Go somewhere else.

  • Pros: There are a plethora of other places to buy.
  • Cons: Bad selection, bad prices.

Worst service ever!

by ms_hayley

Sorry, but when I'm shelling out $500 for a bottle of wine, I'm not expecting to be treated like royalty but I DO expect at least an adequate level of customer service. The wait time between selecting the bottle I wished to purchase and someone actually finding it in the basement was completely absurd. You'd think that a store that purportedly deals with a large volume of high end wines and high paying customers would be a little more used to doing things like GETTING THE ACTUAL BOTTLES. Apparently not.

And you know what? The prices aren't so great either. Way to go guys, I'll be shlepping it down to Astor from now on.

A sommelier's dream, a wine lover's eye-opening experience.

by Contributor

The Scene
A good bottle of wine is an easy thing to find--a great bottle is another story. Luckily, since 1934, New Yorkers have been able to turn to Sherry-Lehman and its mind-boggling selection for help. The compact, lived-in space crams gorgeous, antique gothic glass display cabinets with some of the greatest wines and spirits around.

The Goods
Though the variety may seem daunting, the prices are shockingly reasonable, and there is always a great promotion going on. The German, Argentine and Alsace wines are a nice addition to the more typical selections from popular regions. Whether you're looking for a bottle of George Deboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau under $10 or a double magnum of Lafite Rothschild for over $2,000, you'll find the staff more than willing to help you leave with the perfect choice.

Wonderful!

by carrie06

Great selection, equally wonderful service. The staff is unconcerned with the amount of money you plan to spend, and it IS possible not to spend a lot, and still get their great advice. Great variety, great price selection, great location...

  • Pros: service, variety, prices
