Monolithic proportions at reasonable prices.

The Scene
Morris Lapidus, architect of Miami's famed Fontainebleau hotel, built this sea-green hotel in the early 1960s. Then it seemed oddly out of place. But now that futuristic boutique hotels are a dime a dozen, this property (formerly Loews and still owned by the Loews corporation) has turned more traditional. Maroon carpeting, mahogany furniture and dark, paneled walls adorn this lovely midtown oasis.
The Details
The hotel is clearly pandering to the business crowd, as travelers who come here to conduct meetings can score room and suite upgrades for the asking. But if you're here for pleasure, don't despair. The whopping 722 rooms cater to leisure travelers, too. The knowledgeable concierge adds a nice touch, recommending out-of-the-way restaurants and providing "forgotten" items such as ties and diapers from a special "I Forgot Closet" ... for a fee, of course. The Lexington Avenue Grill serves classic American fare in a casual Art-Deco setting.
Call me when it's done

The hotel is in major construction. The rooms that are available is so old that the wall papers are peeling. The tub was leaking water. Furnitures are worn as well.
- Pros: Staff, Proximity of sites
- Cons: Living area, Crowded
friendly staff, busy hotel
by Chamique23
The staff was absolutely the nicest staff I've ever encountered...however, the lobby was always VERY busy!! There were always a ton of people, no matter what time of day or night. On the whole, the hotel was great, as long as you don't mind the chaos in the lobby.
- Pros: great staff
- Cons: lots of people
A fine hotel

The hotel is handily placed to get around NYC, was clean, functional, large rooms and friendly staff. Excellent value for money and I'd definately recommend.
a great place to stay
by appnyc
the rooms were big, for nyc hotel rooms, and very nice, very clean. everyone was super-friendly, and the bar downstairs was a fun place to meet for drinks before or after going out. and it's in a pretty central location--i would definitely stay here again.
