They 're good at this job...

This is my all time favorite place for BEİJİNG duck. I've been coming here for years and yes sometimes I wait like an idiot for the damn BEİJİNG duck. No other place in NY makes it better. It tastes o so very good with the plum sauce. I always ask for extras and they usually just give you this one tiny container. O wells better than nothing. I think I can really sit and eat the whole duck myself.
Eat it while its still warm its the freaking best. . O my I'm getting hungry. I cant wait anymore.
Yuck, blah, yuck!!

For a gourmet restaurant I was not overly impressed with the quality of the food. My main course was served on the cold side as was the appetizer. Maybe this particular restaurant decided to serve sub par meals for restaurant week or old left overs. I certainly felt like I was having left overs. I could have gotten this meal for $15 at my neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The seafood rice was horrible. It had a strange/fishy smell and was served over cooked, more like seafood goo. The meal I ordered (so unimpressive I can't even remember the name) consisted of pan fried noodles absolutely drowned in overpowering brown sauce. The chicken was barely cooked. Try another restaurant if you're looking for high class gourmet Chinese food or better yet, just order take out and save yourself $75. Unless of course you want four or five servers hovering around your table when you eat.
- Pros: The decore is nice
- Cons: Staff is overly attentive. Food is sub par. Price is too high. Low ceilings made me feel like I was eating in the basement.
Great food and service

I've been to this restaurant twice, once with a party of four and once with a party of 12. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. I especially like how they plate the food. I recommend it for a date or a large group.
- Pros: Food, Service
Best Scallops in NY
by Dshorte1
I LOVE this place!!! I go all the time - the decor is very professional and the service is always great. I have been there for business meetings and when on dates and they never disappoint me. I love their lunch special menu - it is reasonably priced and they have loads of great choices. Try the scallop appetizer on the lunch menu - it is AMAZING. This restaurant remains one of my favorite in NY City.
- Pros: the scallops and the duck
- Cons: small appetizer portions
Tacky Decor, Poor Service, Average Food
by michael_and_clare
What a disappointing experience.
Shun Lee Palace was over half empty the night we visited for the first (and last) time - it was not a busy night. Still, we were given the table next to the front door and adjacent to a noisy waiter station. I very politely complained about the table, and they refused to move us.
We were dressed more properly than 90% of the other people in the restaurant and we were respectful of the staff in every way, yet we still had the worst table and the worst service in the restaurant.
Waiters did not refill our tea or water, and we had to hunt down a manager to finally get a check when it was time to leave.
The decor was tacky and the food was strictly average. This was a crime given the premium pricing of the restaurant.
There are other high-end Chinese restaurants with perfect service and spectacular food in the neighborhood - one is only a few blocks away from Shun Lee Palace, and that's where we will be going next time. We won't be back here again.
- Pros: The pressed duck was the best thing we ate, but that's not saying much.
- Cons: Extremely poor service
Service is perfection
by michseone
This restaurant is one of a kind. The service is table-side, kind of an old-school style that you don't see much of anymore. The staff is so attentive, the second you have sipped your last sip of water they are on you like 'white on rice', so to speak. The food is outstanding. Good, clean, chinese food. NOt greasy...very fresh, and served in that old school silverware.. like you are literally, in a palace. The white table cloths and the decor are a nice touch and make the restaurant fancy so you mind a bit less paying such a high price for what is really just some great chinese food. It makes for a great family special occasion dinner...and its one of those restaurants where people are still a bit formal which is nice, and you will see the men wearing jackets. Yes, its pricey but if you get the duck, you will be talking about it for a month.
- Pros: Excellent Service, WOnderful FOod
- Cons: A bit Pricey
no good

The food is just like anything you can find in a take-out restaurnat around the corner in a suburban town. Nothing special for the big name. Too pricey for the quality and not enough attention given to the customer.
- Pros: none

TERRIBLE Delivery Service
by bryu
I JUST placed an order from Shun Lee Palace this afternoon and the delivery service was TERRIBLE. I received a call from the delivery person stating they were in the lobby of my building. When I got there, he was nowhere to be found. I asked every single delivery person in the lobby if they were from Shun Lee and they all said "no." So, I went back to my office on the 35th floor. As soon as I get to my desk, I find 4 voicemails from the delivery person. I make my way back downstairs and lo and behold AGAIN he is nowhere to be found. When I ask the security desk if they have seen this "mysterious" Shun Lee delivery person, they say "no." AGAIN, I make my way back upstairs. At this point, I am extremely aggravated. I call the restaurant to inform them of the situation and they angrily tell me that it is my fault I missed the delivery. Apparently the delivery person was waiting for 15 minutes and I never showed up. How could that possible be when I went downstairs after receiving the first phone call and then again after receiving his voicemails?! They refused to cancel my order and insisted that I go back down to the lobby because the delivery person would be back in five minutes. As if the situation wasn't bad enough, when I finally met the "phantom" delivery person he was EXTREMELY RUDE. He pretty much GLARED at me during the entire transaction and then took the liberty of tipping himself with MY money! At this point, I was so angry I just wanted to walk away...with or without my money. I will NEVER order from Shun Lee Palace AGAIN!
- Pros: good food
- Cons: terrible delivery and take out service
