Terrible Experience At Mr. Chow
by munna
Went to this place having read the reviews and could not believe how less than average and misleading this place is. Lot's of artificial colorings in food. Watch out.
- Pros: Great reviews
- Cons: Completely opposite experience
BEST EVER
by AshleyMike
I highly recommend this place both for single dining, dates, or any family parties. They provide service to the utmost perfection; they are so helpful and kind, and they make sure that my boyfriend and I had a good time. I have gone to this place many times before ever since I was young, so to make sure that I arranged a good date. The food was delicious, you won't get any of those bizarre americanized "chinese" foods here. It's totally authentic and delightful.
- Pros: best food and service in town
- Cons: NONE
Not your usual cheap Chinese take out! love MR. CHOW!
by hersay
I love this place! It's not your usual cheap chinese take out! drank a whole lot of champagne last night and sat back while the captain ordered my favorite dishes. Try the Beijing Duck prefixe. They come up with the best courses! Can't wait to go back!
- Pros: Service, champagne, and good looking people
- Cons: Expensive so have a date pay
Spectacular
by jblonde
I was so hesitant about coming here after reading the negative reviews. No clue what they were about. I went there last night for my birthday. Food was spectacular and service was impeccable. Will definitely be back!
- Pros: Food and service
Smoke and Mirrors BS!
by marcia99
Very bland food, weird over attentive but improper service.
After stating that we were unsatisfied, the guy actually told us that we were "supposed" to not be full.
I would never go here again.
- Pros: Good chocolate cake.
- Cons: bland bland bland bland food

I wanted to thank the staff of mr. chow, and I thought this was the best way. You guys are always accomodating and have welcomed me with warmth. I believe your restaurant have been around for so long for a reason. It is always good to see restaurants that last through think and thin. I tell you keep up the good work guys!!!
- Pros: Service, Drinks and Food
- Cons: Crowded on weekends.
$68 Over-Price Fixe

Having read the most current review, my friend and I decided to journey to Mr. Chow's as Nobu's wait time exceeded an hour. Being only the two of us, and it being my friend's birthday, I treated. Money was not an object. I expected a tasteful atmosphere with a decent, if not stellar, meal and at least satisfactory service. We anticipated something along the lines of Nobu. The doorknob alone had a bit of character. We expected that to carry on into the environment and meal. We were rather wrong.
Upon making your entrance down the four staired case, you gingerly make your way through very close tables. There was no extra floor, nor private booth. It was simply stylishly cramped-- elbow to elbow. Like Joe's Shanghai but far more posh. I could make out the surgical incisions on guests' faces at adjoining tables-- that's how compact. This on a Wednesday night. I couldn't imagine having a large party in such a space.
Due to the tight space, we could barely hear each other over everyone else's conversations. It became rather frustrating. There was some sort of Beni Hana-esque showmanship with noodles, but that didn't detract much from the tight space and constant roar.
We had still water, the vegetarian and chicken version of hash meets scrapple on a wrap of lettuce with plum sauce. Tasteless. We also receive some sort of scallion pancakes. They tasted fairly, but there were only four slices. Next up: bok choi, tofu, rice & prawns. Taste: greasy, bland, overcooked and Pathmark quality. We had whiskey sours & vodka on the rocks that were clearly not top shelf, as we requested. We came to the end of our meal and were both appalled by the scant, low quality meal and were in fact still hungry. $200 got us poor appetizers, poor and tiny entrees, two mediocre drinks, Evian, leg cramps and headaches. Sure, we were seen, but who cares? I wanted quality. Mr. Chows missed the mark. Overpriced, underqualified. Beware.
- Pros: Coat Check.
- Cons: Poor quality.
DON'T LISTEN TO THE HATERS
by alf47
This is by far one of the best places to eat in NYC. I'm not a people watcher but I have seen Alex Rodriguez, Willem Dafoe, Sean Combs, and Kevin Connolly at the restaurant. I'm sure if the food, service, and atmosphere were as bad as everyone says you would not see so many well off people there. I can guarantee you that everyone that has given this place a bad review is just upset with the bill. This place is expensive, but if money is not an issue to you then you will not be disappointed with Mr. Chow. And for all those with the bad reviews.....maybe it's time to get a better job.
- Pros: Great food and atmoshpere
- Cons: Expensive
Overall worth the trip!

If you're planning on a quiet dinner don't go here. This place is so loud you may even need the skill of reading lips to get through your dinner conversation. Despite the noise levels the food is excellent! They offer to choose your meal for you but if you're clear what you like or don't like I would ask to see the menu. The have a great variety of "land", "air", and "sea" fare. The wine by the glass choices are very limited but the Pinot Grigio is a light and fruity one that I recommend. The shrimp with glazed walnuts is a surprising treat. The pairing is an unexpected fit. The sole is light and delicate but flavorful. The glazed pork is tender and juicy. The fried rice is not what you would expect but a delicious original creation without soy sauce. For dessert the berry tart is not to be missed. It is light and fresh and a great finish. The service was lacking in promptness upon being seated but improved as the meal progressed. The staff can be a little eager to take your items away too quickly. The prices are high for the portions you receive. Overall despite the cost, noise and the staff the food was worth the trip.
- Pros: Quality Food
- Cons: Cost, Noise Leve, Service at times and CROWDED
Overpriced for nothing

If you like a run down place, with no vibe, no background music and waiters making selections for you than this place is for you. There is a menu but when asked the waiter wasn't too pleased. How it works is they ask you your food preferences ( e.g. meat, seafood, poultry...) and then bring out several dishes based on that. My husband asked for seafood and i for meat. We got two apps and two tiny portions of the main course ( filet mignon and fried sole) with side of green beans and rice. after that we were offered dessert - which camed in the form of ready made cakes that i get on brighton beach for $4. we each had 2 drinks and paid close to $280. i left still feeling somewaht hungry. the service was great, there's a gazilion waiters running around and they greet you nicely and offer champagne right away. somehow i dont see myself coming back to this place. oh and there;s no dress code.
- Pros: excellent service, no dress code
- Cons: too little food for the value, no vibe
