This is a great salon. From the first time I ventured in, just to have a look around, I knew it was the right one! All the people who work there are friendly and attentive, and those that have actually done my hair are excellent. Nicolay is - for me - the best colorist that I've gone to, and Liliana is a wonderful and thoroughly delightful stylist, as good on the teenage son as she is on both the mother and teenage daughter. From the ladies on the desk to the young men who bring the coffee and everyone (well nearly!) in between they are all pleasant and helpful. The only long faces are on the Upper Eastside ladies who seem to often be in the majority and rarely manage a smile!

Pros: Excellent skilled service in a good atmosphere

Cons: Can't think of any - except I don't know why the security man always asks my name - he never seems to do anything with the information!!

Liliana did my hair for my wedding last year. I LOVED the way in turned out. I went in for a trial and she was able to create the exact look I wanted - long gentle curls. The style lasted all day long and looked just as good at the end of the night. I highly recommend her. I can't say much about the price, however, since my mom picked up the tab. I think it was pretty pricey so as long as you know that going in, you'll be very pleased.

Save yourself from the worst haircut I have ever had. Since having this abortion of a haircut, I can not go any where else until it grows out. It was so bad, and no one in the salon cared. I wrote a letter and I received no response. No customer service at all. I would recommend you skip this salon, the worst is getting a bad hair cut and the salon not even trying to do anything.

Very disappointed. The service from the moment I walked in was poor. It felt very much like an assembly line and did nothing to make the client feel welcome. If you are looking for Ambience and an escape from the city for a few hours, choose a salon that will create this type of experience for you. This salon doesn't even come close.

After Butterfly Salon robbed me of nearly $400, I pulled my business from them last minute and asked Stephen Knoll, with only 2 weeks to my wedding, with no money left for trials what they could do. Karl did my makeup and Lilliana my updo-- they assured me I didn't need an updo, I just went in and talked to them and on the morning of my wedding I was pampered, treated kindly and looked perfect. My hair and makeup could not have been better - they were masterpeices.

Pros: Accomodating, Talented, Great Atmosphere

Cons: Expensive

the Stephen Knoll Salon saved me from the embarrassment and indignity of a botched color job from a different salon. aftern finishing my appointment at the aforementioned salon (which shall remain nameless), I immediately called the Stephen Knoll Salon, explained my situation, and they graciously accomodated me. I came in that same day for a consultation with Anthony, who took pity on me and opened up his cluttered schedule so that I could fit within it. he and his assistants devoted focus, time and energy into making sure I walked out of there with exactly the color I wanted. I couldn't have been happier with my experience, and the courtesy and accomodation with which I was treated were both surprising and welcome.

Pros: courtesy, knowledge, listening skills

I am from Chicago and entering a NYC salon raises the bar on my expectations. Dominick FAR exceeded my imagination. He is THE BEST. Not only is my haircut the best one I have ever had, he is a nice guy who listens to your concerns and takes your texture, face shape and lifestyle into consideration when he consults with you. I have been to London, LA, Paris and Chicago with the best hairdressers. Dominick is just the best. Stephen Knoll, I thank you for Dominick!

Pros: Excellent staff, Beautiful atmosphere

In response to Anyone Got a Hat? I was horrifed to read the reveiw given the salon. I have been a client there for 10 years and I always leave happy. I use all of their services including having Stephen cut my hair. Trust me its the best cut you'll ever have

I have used Stephen Knoll Salon for over 8 years with nothing but great experiences time and again. Although I don't have the greatest hair naturally, you'd never know it. I am often stopped by strangers or people at social functions who ask 'who cuts your hair?' As a busy professional it's fantastic to have someone that you trust completely to make good decisions about your hair; worrying whether my hair will look great never has to be added to my long list of concerns!

Pros: talented stylists, professional, caring
