Andrean: The Best Stylist in NYC

Everyone knows: you get what you pay for, so I am OK with the cost of Bumble cuts and here's why...

After moving to NYC in 1997, I was referred by a friend to a stylist and salon which I continued to use for more than 7 years happily and loyally. The stylist was not Andrean and the salon was not Bumble & Bumble.

A hair emergency arose (big job interview) four years ago and my go-to stylist was out of town. My wife suggested I try her stylist at Bumble & Bumble and I have been seeing Andrean there ever since.

Recently, a victim of the sinking economy, I lost my job suddenly. The good news is that I managed to line up an interview almost immediately. But, I had a problem: my hair had grown a little too long and shaggy for an important job interview. That's right, Andrean to the rescue again. If I get the job, I know exactly who to thank. Skilled and charming, as long as Andrean remains at Bumble & Bumble, I will remain a customer.

Simply put, she's the best. If you see her and disagree, let me know.

william will give you ratty hair

i got my hair cut at the downtown salon and felt my hair was too heavy and needed my layers trimmed. i went back w/in two wks for free redo. my stylist was out so they assigned me to William. he said all he was willing to do was thin it out, cut into it. i let him b/c i had already paid $130 for cut. he cut all the body out and left me w/ thin ratty hair. on the way home i want into another salon where a woman fixed it w/out hestation, but it will take me 6 months or more to get the volume back that he cut out.

This salon is sort of like a factory, while I do love their products, the skill is not worth the price. This location has been notorious for canceling on me and others and the last minute without offering other times. Maybe they don't care about or need their customers. Also, I don't care too much about being coddled when getting my hair done, but here you just feel rushed through everything. I guess if you're desperate, they won't screw up your hair, but there are other places to go.

• Pros: they probably won't majorly screw up your hair
• Cons: staff, service, skill level...all below average for the price

Awful! Never Again! Don't be fooled!

So I went to Bb to get this so called "amazing cut and color". I guess it was one of those things where if everyone else is I should too. I should have known better. My hair is awful. The color is drab and lacks any shine and my cut was generic. I could have gotten better service at the $10 shop. The stylists are so focused on themselves that they dont pay attention to you. Not to mention I felt like a product on a conveyor belt waiting to be stamped and shipped. They had 4 different people working on me.After I saw my own hair I truly wanted to cry. I looked around and noticed the less then mediocre hair styles on other people being serviced and thought we are all a bunch of suckers. I will never step foot in that place again. I hope this helps in your decision. Don't be fooled or pressured like I was. Thank god hair grows.

Best color of my life!

I've been meaning to write this months ago and that is how long i have loved my color! My natural color is a dark blonde and i wanted bright hilites but not chunky. Victoria 'painted' me and by watching her, i thought the outcome wouldn't be what i wanted... it was AMAZING! so natural that i couldnt believe myself in the mirror. She is the top colorist and expensive but SO worth it. I just went back in for a 2nd time to see Victoria to get my roots done and could not be happier! Although, I did miss her assistant Matt.... he made my 1st experience so much fun!!!!

Dante gets it done!

No one has a given me as great a cut and styled my hair as lovely. I have thick and wavy hair and find that a lot of stylists think they can get away with just hacking away at my head and can pull it off as "hip" or modern. But Dante took great care in giving me the best cut for my head of hair and really made it feel healthy and great, using minimal product. This new spot is gorgeous, too. Wonderful views while I was getting my cut. I highly recommend him and after just recently getting a cheap cut from a local salon am kicking myself for not shelling out the extra 60 bucks (it was $120 total) to get get quality care for my locks.

• Pros: high quality, gorgeous space
• Cons: I selfishly wish it were less expensive

the Best hair salon! love Bumble&Bumble!

I love bumble and bumble (downtown salon) so much. I have long hair and have been their client for 3 years. Mai does color and TOM does my hair cut. I think MAI was born to be a colorist and Tom was born to be hair stylist. They are the best of the best!! they both are very professional and so easy to talk to!

the salon has pretty decent water view which is relaxing. their staffs are very kind and friendly. The cafe has decent coffee and tea. their cookies are sooooo good!! :) :) oh, and I love using BB products that I get from the salon.

MULLET 2!!!

I should have read the reviews before I went so please BEWARE of the UPTOWN location. When I left the salon, it looked okay. It wasn't until the next day, that I had washed it and fixed it myself that it ended up being horrendous. I read a review named MULLET and I have to agree with everything. Except for the fact that I did leave the house and went to another salon that charges less than $50 to get her to trim it up and somewhat fix it. I do have to wear my hair in bobby pins and in a ponytail, but it is still a disaster. I went to LISA and she asked me exactly what I wanted and what my morning routine was. Needless to say, I got something of the complete opposite. The other salon that I went to told me that the person that cut my hair was an idiot and she cut in a way that normal people would not be able to style their hair. I will never go back. Just so you know, I walked in with beautiful, healthy, long hair with long layers and walked out with a Mullet and $180 less than when I went in. My hair WAS COMPLETELY BUTCHERED WITH A RAZOR.

• Pros: I know where not to go!
• Cons: I don't need to give any!!!

Best Haircut I have ever had

I just got back from my first cut and color at Bumble and Bumble (Uptown) and I couldn't be happier. Jodie did my color...and Stevie did my hair. I was disheartened because of the review I read about Stevie. I have long thick VERY curly hair (that I always straighten) and I think it is safe to say that this is the best haircut I have ever had. She did exactly what I had asked her to...and more (and was good about telling me what she was doing). My hair is still long, thick, and the layers are perfect and blended. I can't wait to go back again (they will trim your bangs for free!). Jodie was fabulous too. Totally worth it.

• Pros: Exactly what I had asked for, price was reasonable for a good NYC salon

Beware

Do not go to William--especially if you have long hair.

Too make along story short, my hair was long and slighly layered, it is now above my shoulders to fix his mistake. I was ignored. The photo I brought in was ignored. William was rude and had too much attitude.
