It is really a prestine and gorgeous place to go visit. If you have any spirituality you will hone in on it as soon as you enter the door. Huge ceilings and beautiful art and architecture make this a must see when visiting. It reminded me when I walked into the Duomo in Florence Italy.....a wonderful place
- Pros: Beautiful
- Cons: None really

St Patrick's Church is absolutely beautiful. We went here twice our last visit to NYC - once for mass and once to go back earlier in the day when it was more empty. It was so nice to be able to see the detail of everything. The have another smaller pew are in the very front of the church that you have to see. (If you go behing the alter you will see so much more.)

We visited St. Patrick's Cathedral last month and were completely in awe of how majestic it is. There was a wedding taking place, but they still allow visitors in and it was absolutely beautiful. The stained glass windows and mile high ceilings will take your breath away. It was pretty crowded when we went on a Saturday, however there are plenty of pews to sit in and reflect, and for a suggested $2 donation, you can light a candle. They do search your bags when you go in, so be prepared to wait a little bit to get inside. It is right around the corner from Rockefeller Center and the American Girl Store, so the whole area is very busy with tourists.

St. Patrick's Cathedral is one of the most beautiful places in New York City. Stop by for a break from your busy Manhattan day. Just a quick step inside will give you a little bit of peace. The Cathedral is just as beautiful and magnificant on the outside as it is on the inside. We always bring our out of town visitors here -- you'll see a mix of tourists and locals at St. Patricks. It is most beautiful when it is all decorated at Christmas time. I've never been to a service here, but I've stopped by many times for a moment of peace.

This outside of St. Patrick's Cathedral is simply amazing, and the inside is no less stunning. You can go inside and light candles or just sit and enjoy soft music almost any time of day. I was amazed at the intricate design of the towering ceilings and the beautiful stained glass - it was like stepping back in time to see it. A must see!

The gift shop in the Cathedral itself is small but across the srteet on 51st street they have a much larger facility. There is everything from scarves, greeting cards and pillboxes. They also sell a nice collection of reproductions from the Vatican's collection.

St. Patricks has many daily services from Confession to daily & weekend masses. Cardinal Egan presides here. They also offer holiday masses, though if you ever plan on going for easter, know to get tickets well in advance (yes, it's odd, but you do need tickets for certain holiday masses there).
PROS: On the weekends, masses almost every hour.
CONS: Tickets and long lines for holiday masses.
The largest Catholic cathedral in the United States, built in the French Gothic style.

Overview
Created over a span of three decades in the 19th century, St. Patrick's is the seat of the Archdiocese of New York. It's also one of the most popular attractions in the city. Located in the Fifth Avenue tourist mecca, near MoMA, Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall, the cathedral draws in over three million visitors a year.
Features
What's the lure? Despite its French Gothic architecture, the church is unmistakably an American classic. Although some stained glass was created in England and France, most of the cathedral is the work of American artists. The altar, for example, was designed by Tiffany and Company. The rose window is considered one of the finest examples of 20th-century stained-glass design. Perhaps most fascinating of all, deceased archbishops of New York are buried in tombs beneath the high altar: Their hats hang from the ceiling above.
