DONT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by sandra 101

Got my 2 yo a pair of shoes- decided I did not like the color and brought it back 2 days later for exchange- Cashier looks at it and tells me they can not be exchanged because they have been worn!!!!!!

I say NO they have not been worn they are brand new. She says NO there is "wear" on them. I get upset and say "well why the hell did you sell me a worn pair then?"

She says we dont sell them worn- you have used this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway then the manager shows up and says its fine to exchange it- they get me the new pair- I open the box and its got the same "wear" on the soles!!!

I show the manager and she says oh thats nothing- its just from kids trying it on in the store!!

I ask for a new one- she says they are all like this!!

WTF??

So I tell her- then why were you accusing me of trying to exchange worn shoes if all your new ones are like this- she says "oh stop making drama here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""

HORRIBLE SERVICE, HORRIBLE ATTITUDE, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE- DONT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I can say is WOW!

by mikey82252

Found this Diamond of a shoe store on 72nd Street after going to the ballet last saturday afternoon. They tell me they have been here 40 years! All I can say is I do not know the last time I sat down and was fitted properly, and, after seeing all five of the syles I asked for!!! (Yes they had them all)! I can HONESTLY say I am a true shoe "junkie". This is the place for ME!

  • Pros: Many many many Many brands!
  • Cons: My wife is not happy with me becasue I bought 5 pair!

Avoid this shoe store like the plague!

by EllieRG

Shopping at Tip Top was a miserable experience. The salesperson was all too happy to sell me a pair of sandals, and we had a long discussion about my need for orthotics and his feeling (he said he was an orthotic expert) that I would be best served by getting another pair of those which were in my present shoes. When I tried them at home with the orthotics they were unwearable, and so I brought them back to the store within 4 days. There I was told by an officious person who must have been the manager to give him my sales slip, which I did. He said that the shoes were unreturnable because they were on sale (which wasn't mentioned when I bought them), and that NOONE would recommend any orthotic for use in those shoes. The original salesman angrily denied that we had spoken about orthotics at all. When I could see that we were getting nowhere, I asked for my slip back so I could depart. I was then told that I hadn't given the slip to either of them, that nobody associated with the store had my slip, and that I should sit down and carefully look for it because they hadn't been given it. It was an experience I wouldn't wish on a dog--dishonest and demeaning: a performance that would make a used-car salesman squirm! DON'T GO!

  • Cons: lack of service, honesty, and a reasonable shopping experience

CRUMMY return policy

by petunia999

Granted, they have a large selection of nice shoes, but the place is always jam-packed and it's impossible to get any help. Once you do get some service, you won't find the salespeople to be terribly friendly or accommodating. I always want to leave as soon as I arrive.

RETURN POLICY: You have just *FIVE DAYS* to make a return. I attempted to make a return one week--7 days--after a purchase and received store credit only. Like I really want to go back and shop for something else. I'd like to support local biz, but I'll be making my future shoe purchases at department stores where they have reasonable policies.

New York's one-stop shop for comfy shoes.

by Contributor

In Short
With more than 100 brands and loads of styles in-stock, this family-owned Upper West Side store has been outfitting New Yorkers in comfortable, fashionable shoes since 1940. The large space is jam-packed with all of the popular brands, including Puma, Rockport, Birkenstock, Hush Puppies, Reef and Timberland, as well as harder-to-find faves like Taryn Rose, Bruno Magli, Merrell, and Icon. Don't miss surprisingly stylish choices from walking-shoe stars like Clarkes and Dr. Scholls. A knowledgeable, been-there-for-years staff helps shoppers score the right style and fit.

Great Selection & Wonderful Service

by susanjnyc

I've always had difficulty finding attractive, comfortable shoes in my size. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection that TipTop offers. My salesperson was very helpful and extremely patient with me each time I've shopped at TipTop. It's great to find a store that consistently offers great style & service. I can't wait to see what next seasons styles will look like!

Huge selection but rude salespeople

by lachaussette

After browsing the website, I went into Tip Top Shoes on a Saturday afternoon to buy a pair of rain boots that I saw online. They did not have the style that I was looking for, but I was able to order a pair through the store. My experience was horrible mainly because the salesman was very impatient with me. When I said the shoes were uncomfortable, rather than suggesting a different style or explaining why the shoes were built that way, he just said, "Maybe that's not your style" and tried to walk away. He really did not want to help me, and answered my questions with exasperation. He actually yelled at me when I suggested trying on a different size. The store has a comprehensive selection, but I would only go if you don't mind be treated with rudeness.

  • Pros: Large selection
  • Cons: Rude salespeople, Unknowledgable, Unhelpful

The sales people here are HORRIBLE!

by amandanyc

If you want to be treated like pond scum, definitely come to this store. You can sit and watch the manager humiliate his own sales staff in front of customers and then wait for the sales person to turn and pass that same treatment on to you.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: rude staff, manager with Napoleon
