Went by over the weekend for dessert and coffee, and the little restaurant is closed and appears to be gutted! What happened?!? Anybody got a good dessert recommendation for the UWS?

Pros: It was great!

Cons: Now it's closed

As patrons of Café Mozart for years, we have always loved the atmosphere and food and found both extremely satisfying, especially for brunch. Over the past few months however, we have noticed many small changes that in aggregate add up to just one too many, and as a result we will no longer be coming back. For example, they used to bring over a basket with an assortment of breads and jams to the table, now it’s filled with just on kind, dry raisin bread and grade jelly. There still have flavored hot chocolate on the menu, although they have been ‘out’ for months now. The flavored teas are also out, and the ‘pott of tea' is now a cup of hot water accompanied by a cheap tea bag. The strawberry and cream cheese filled french toast has been replaced with french toast with a pink strawberry flavored filling that is just not as good. The same items are cheaper if you get them delivered, although the bagel with cream cheese and salmon was missing the cream cheese and when I called about missing syrup for my french toast, they gave me an attitude and said I didn't specify I wanted syrup. We really did like this place a lot, but with spotty service, attitude and the recent decline in quality, we just had enough.

I ordered delivery from Cafe Mozart and never got my order. I called after waiting an hour and was told that my order would soon be delivered. I waited another hour (a total of 2 and a half hours since I placed my order) and was given the run around again - this time told that they couldn't find their delivery person. In the meantime, no one called to tell me that they would not delivery the food. I told them to forget it as it seemed like they still had to make the food and who knows when I would have gotten in. I personally think they never made the food and just hoped I wouldn't call back to check on my order.

I used to love this place, went religiously and recommended it to many friends. Now I'm' embarased and retracting my recommendation. It has gone way downhill. The desserts are the only redeeming thing (it's hard to mess up chocolate, but get it to go if you do decide to brave it into here) 1. Rude and poor service, no one pays attention to you. I think they have a profile of who they'll give good service too. They used to be way more attentive. Even when the place is empty, they don't notice you. (It reminds me of the snooty staff at Cafe Lalo) 2. Some of the dishes are now bland and poorly prepared - not worth the price. 3. Don't ever have a complaint or request an adjustment to your meal. The wait staff gets confused and treats you like you did something wrong. Who knows what they'll do to your food in the back. One time (the absolute last time) my meal had too much salt (I took a drink of water with every bite...that's not normal and it was my favorite dish I always ordered). 5 people conferenced over it looking confused about what to do, 20 minutes later I got an answer that it would be replaced, and within 2 blocks from walking out the door I was horribly sick. I could only wish that I got sick IN the restaurant or on their stoop. The illness lasted for almost 2 days and I couldn't go to work. I was ready to contact the New York department of health. I contacted the restaurant and they have not responded or looked into the potential health risk. DON'T GO HERE.

Pros: back in the day it was good. I miss the chocolate desserts, but will NEVER go back.

Cons: really bad service. Food made me extremely sick.

I went here with my sister because a friend recommended the desserts. We got seated, the place was pretty empty and we waited... and waited. Two men walked in about 10 minutes after us and were seated at the table next to us. Right away, the waiter came up to them and gave them water and asked them how they were doing tonight. We waited some more giving the waiter a chance to even acknowledge us on such an empty/non busy night. The waiter then came back about 5 minutes later, didn't look at us, went straight back to the other table and started taking their order. By this time we were pretty ticked off. So we left and let them know how horrible their restaurant was. NOT WORTH THE WAIT!!!

Let me first list what was good about the place: coffee and bread. Everything else was awful. Went for brunch with friends. We had to practically jump up and down to get the waitstaff's attention. Huge wait before the food came. The eggs benedict with smoked salmon was dry and way too fishy (had my stomach a bit nervous). The homefries were boiled with no taste. Salad had no dressing. And for $12-$15 per order, damn over-priced. I can't figure out the hype about this place. I would suggest sticking to your local diner.

Pros: Coffee, bread

Cons: food, food, food, service

I visited with a group of 4 and we were immediately seated. Jazz piano played in the backround and our meals were good. I had a banana flavored hot chocolate and it was delicious. I hear the desserts are fantastic, but I missed them. Service was very good as well. The seating area is tight. It offers a different ambience and I would surely go again.

Pros: Flavored Hot Chocolates and Bruch

Cons: Tight Seating

Cafe Mozart has the most extensive range of desserts I have seen. There are at least 20 kinds of cakes, plus pies, torts, brownies , soufles, ice cream and milkshakes. Plus, coffee and other drinks. Me and my boyfriend only had dessert, so that is only what i am raving about. I had the chocolate mud cake and it was out of this world amazing, it was like one big piece of fudge, amazing. If you go on fri-sun you have to buy at least $7.5 per person, but that is one desert and coffee, prices aren't bad.

Pros: Dessert and Prices

Cons: Very Loud

I highly recommend Cafe Mozart. We went here for brunch, and my husband had Mediterranean Shakshuka and I had the Country Breakfast. Both were tasty, but I liked the Shakshuka more. It was yummy, and everything was very tasty. I had toast on the side, and even that was tasty! The dessert was pretty good as well. I have never seen such a range of choices in brunch and dessert elsewhere. I will definitely go back! The place was a little loud and crowded, but I was seated promptly.

Pros: Yummy food, good place

Cons: Loud

Cafe Mozart is one of my favorite dessert places in Manhattan. I like going there late at night in the summer, and sitting outside, relaxing in the romantic atmosphere of the Upper West Side. This place is very popular, but - in my experience - never crowded. The service is good, and the food is delicious. I heartily recommend it.

Pros: atmosphere, desserts
