Best Italian in the area!!

by foodienyc917

I have always enjoyed this place and know when I have friends visiting we can go here and the food & service is always consistantly stellar. Recently, I went here solo (yes I was craving their fresh pasta) and as I walked up to the door and said "Table for one", I realized it was prime time on a Sat night!! I was so embarrasssed -but guess what?? They treated me as if I was a party of eight - full service & everything. I love the bread & oil here, and the daily specials never fail.

  • Pros: Food, Service, location
  • Cons: none

Excellent, reliable Italian

by bjorker101

I have eaten here at least 50 times. The food is simply amazing, the service is excellent as well, the staff are extremely friendly. Unfortunately, the entire UWS also knows this, because the restaurant is always PACKED with a wait list. The Penne alla Grappa is the best dish in the house, but it's hard to choose, especially when they tell you the specials for the night. Halloween is a fun night, the waitstaff dresses up. Pomodoro even has a mention or two on old Seinfeld episodes ("Pomodoro is where you go when you break up with people"). 5 STARS, easy.

  • Pros: the food
  • Cons: too small

mngordo

Aside from occasionally feeling a bit "crowded" (and it should be) what can be said for this excellent Italian UWS favorite. Peter the host, and owner, makes you feel right at home. ALL dishes are beautifully prepared and are large in size. Wine by the glass (house wine is a really large pour, and is of decent quality). Wine list is also adequate. Mixed drinks are fine. But it always comes back to the food, the wonderful food. Several other reviewers have noted "consistency" as a wonderful quality of this restaurant and they are correct. The only inconsistency might be the service, but even that has improved of late and it wasn't bad to begin with.

Go there and you won't be sorry.

  • Pros: Excellent food and beverages. Peter, the host and owner, Foccacia bread, Sole dish.
  • Cons:  Sometimes too crowded (but that's a good sign).

Pomodoro Restaurant is one of the most popular places to eat on the Upper West Side. The food and service are always excellent. One of the best Italian places in the city.

A lovely place for the occasion

by gaiamcraft

The service here is rather bland - the waiter being of the smirked-nose etiquette. The restaurant is one of many on the Avenue so reservations are not needed despite the impressions that you might get. The decor inside is nice to observe while you wait and wait for the food. For an Italian restaurant it is rather average with its dishes, however the creme de la creme is their own bakery. The white bread filled to the brim with tomato soup is alone worth coming for and paying for. Otherwise, this is something that is tolerable but no distinctive.

  • Pros: decor, bakery
  • Cons: service

No frills - fab food!!

by 1jess1

Very unassuming from the outside but inside is a warm, homey atmosphere, simple but delicious Italian classics and great service. There are tons of little italian joints like this on the UWS - but this is one of the best ones. And the price is great too!!

  • Pros: food, price, service

Consistent!

by huie

This place is the restaurant to go to for good, consistent Italian food. Nothing on the menu is weird or fusion like, but it just tastes good and the drinks are mixed well. Nice homey place to take a small party to or your significant other for a romantic dinner.

  • Pros: food, consistent, bread sticks

I've been diing here for 10 years and have never been disappointed. Great food at reasonable prices. I take all of my out of town guests here and have never regretted it. Peter (the owner and host) is the best.

  • Pros: great food, value

Molto bene!

by westsidechick

I have been to this restaurant many many times and have NEVER been disappointed. The hostess & service are the best that I have ever experienced in NYC. The food is delicious and the ambience is wonderful. Only bummer is that they don't take reservations.
