BAD dogs!!!
by lou2 at Citysearch
I don't understand why people think this place is so good. Four of us went and no one liked them. The dogs were small and tasted bad. Even with the onions and relish, they still tasted horrible. The fancy world famous papaya drinks... who said they were any good? Walgreens sells much better juices in a bottle, and cheaper. I have tried amazing hotdogs all over the US and South America, and I had some decent expectations for Grays Papaya, too bad it fell so far behind. So far the best I've had have been some from Mexico, plump, juicy, wrapped in bacon, slightly melted cheese with mayo and chips!!!
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: Tastes horrible
Garys' raises prices... again!
by aedavis13 at Citysearch
How is the new price of $4.45, raised from $3.50, a new "recession special" all that special? Used to be I'd go with the wife and we'd both order two dogs and a drink... and I'd often go back for more, but $9.90 hardly makes this a deal in a town where $2 dogs are a dime a dozen. Sure they are great but part of the greatness was the amazing deal... this is no longer the case. I'll be surprised if Gray's Papaya is still around next time I visit the city! Too bad...
- Pros: Still a great hotdog and juice!
- Cons: New, higher prices make this less of a bargain, less special
Texans, too.
by DisneyDarwin at Citysearch
My family is from Texas and we visit NYC every now and again for a dose of theater and fun. No trip is complete without a trip to Gray's. This time, we were no where near 72nd street, but made the effort to stop by anyways. Yes, they are only dogs, but oh what wonderful dogs. We kick butt with BBQ in Texas, but no one here can make a good dog for diddley. We missed the Obama sign, and probably stood right behind it while chewing. I didn't vote for him, and I'm scared of what he might do, but my stomach and taste buds don't care about politics. They do know yummy-ness when they eat it.
- Pros: Best Hot Dog
- Cons: who cares about sitting
Great hot dogs
by acb723 at Citysearch
You can get two hot dogs and a papaya drink for only $4.45, which is a really nice deal. And the hot dogs are so good-slightly crispy on the outside and just about perfect with a bit of mustard on them. Service is very fast, too. There's no seating to speak of, but just go across the street and sit on one of the benches by the 72nd st. subway station and enjoy your hot dogs and drinks there. If you like hot dogs you gotta try this place- you won't be disappointed!
Not paying for politics
by dmorellaNYC at Citysearch
I agree, it appears that lately anyone with exposure seems to think that we care what their political opinion is. We haven't visited GP's yet, and we were all set to go...but after hearing this news, we'll just go buy some hot dogs at the store and cook them up.
- Cons: No one cares what your political opinion is
OBAMA HOT DOGS? ILL TAKE TWO..!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by obamamami at Citysearch
GRAY'S HOT DOGS ARE DELICOUS. ITS HARD TO SAY THAT ABOUT A HOT DOG, BUT THEY ARE WORTH TAKING A TRIP FROM S.I. JUST TO GET SOME. A FERRY, 2 TRAINS AND SOME GRAYS MAKE FOR A GREAT DAY!
AS FOR THEIR SUPPORT OF OBAMA, EVEN BETTER...
ADAMINNYC NEEDS TO LEAVE OUR GREAT STATE AND GO LIVE ELSEWHERE..

Obama Hot Dogs??
by adaminnyc at Citysearch
I liked their hotdogs and drinks before... but now they got this huge support Obama sign out front. Time for Change I suppose - now I won't step in again. News Flash! - Not everyone in the UWS supports Obama. Grey's should be smarter than this....although I'm sure they are doing well, it's good way to lose business (at least my friends and I won't go inside again cause it's like we'd be supporting Obama). They should stick to food and not politics.
- Cons: Food establishments shoulnd't be involved in politics.
The Cheapest Damn Hotdog. Period.
by JEzraK at Citysearch
They may be cheap, but they're also surprisingly good. They "pop" when you bite in. Be sure to get 'em with the onions, the combination of sweet and salt is unstoppable.
- Pros: Nice and cheap
- Cons: Same old thing.
Can't beat the price!
by tzara17 at Citysearch
Unlike the original Papaya King on the UES, Gray's Papaya has managed to serve the same great dogs and drink at an unbeatable price. It's great for a quick bite and very satisfying.
- Pros: Hotdogs, Value
- Cons: Loiterers
Don't have high expectations
by ymx at Citysearch
I traveled all the way from Mexico to NY to discover that Mexico has the best hot dogs I have tasted yet or my expectations for Grey's Papaya were too high. I first heard this name about 7 years ago on a movie in which they made them sound so tasty I knew I had to try them when in NY. Yes they were cheap but I would much rather pay a few more bucks for something that tastes good, you get what you pay for...
- Pros: cheap if you don't mind the bland taste
- Cons: if you are a turist it will be far from all the major attractions in the city
