no frills affordable decent bar food

Went to NYC for an audition at ASB on 2/6/09... Guests are not allowed to watch auditions therefore me & friend stepped out for bite to eat. This place is great if you are looking for no frills restaurant that is affordable. Had a $9.00 glass of wine (Chardonnay) (all wines about 8.50-9.00) however the glass was less than half full. However when I mentioned this to my friend within earshot of the bartender the next glass was filled more than halfway. Good bartending in my book. I had the Serloin Burger which was cooked exactly as I ordered & was pretty good (only a burger ...pretty hard to mess up unless served completely raw.) There are 2 entrances however if you go through the wrong door (like we did) the waitress at the Italian restaurant will let you walk through to Peters as both restaurants occupy same space which are not closed off from one another. To sum up: good place to go if you are not looking for anything pricey/trendy & just want to eat & relax with a beer/wine.

• Cons: slight bleach smell but at least you know the place has been cleaned

they make you feel comfortable

I give this place 5 stars because they do a fantastic job on presentation, on service, on wine selection. They make you feel comfortable and most importantly, I didn't get that "snootiness" from anyone that worked there, unlike many of the restaurants in New York and here that I've been to.

It was a great experience, and now I can check it off my list of restaurants to go to...

Missing Menu Items

If you go here you will not find a price list for beer or soda. So if you order a Coke, it is a 8 ounce classic bottle, and the cost is $4. That is way to steep. As for no beer price listing, that must be a violation of some SLA rule. The burger was OK.

• Pros: Close to Lincoln Center
• Cons: Their menu doesn't tell you what you need to know about beverage costs.

Good service, minimal beer, watch the wine!

Watch out, there are two entrances. Make sure you're meeting your pals on the right side: The Bar Entrance or the Restaurant Entrance. We sat at a table in the restaurant. The Maitre d' and server were efficient and accommodating. Not super friendly, but really good at their jobs. The beer list was small, 2 on draft (Bass and something else) and maybe a half dozen bottled beers. An interesting... er... marketing ploy... is that the restaurant sets each table with a bottle of wine. Like it's included. If you open the bottle, they charge you for it. Our bottle of SHAZZ, said on the label AWARD WINNER, BEST WINE UNDER 2000-YEN (about $18). Mike asked the waitress how much it would be if we opened the bottle. Fantastic food

We were looking for a reasonably priced spot in which to "grab a bite" before heading up to Lincoln Center. Saw Peter's on line and we gave it a try. We were so delighted with the warm, cozy atmosphere, the friendly wait staff and the menu. Tasty wine selection, and fairly wide menu choices were found. The best thing was the pre-fixed menu! I had the chicken with sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese which was mouth wateringly delicious. The salad, bread and dessert were also fantastic. All around a great spot! We would definitely return!

HORRIBLE service, subpar food

My friends and I went to Peter's on a Friday night. There was no wait, several open tables. The man at the door told us he could seat us at a table if we were in and out in an hour because he had that table reserved. We said no problem.

Our waitress was rude from the start. She came over and simply said, with no greeting or no ask of drink orders, "Are you ready?" We were just sat at the table so we requested a few more minutes and she ran off before I could put in a drink order even.

It was a cold rainy night, soup sounded good so three of us got soup and one of us got an entree. Seconds after placing our order, our waitress apparently ran over to the man at the door to complain about our soup orders (note: we never stated this was our whole meal order, and she didnt even ask). The man at the door (I assume the manager) came over and began YELLING at us, saying we were being unfair by just getting soup. Asking us who would do that and why would we come in here if we just wanted appetizers? He ranted for several minutes, then left without even allowing us to respond to his rudeness. Well, after that we definitely were not going to stay for drinks or dessert. It made things very awkward and uncomfortable for the rest of the dinner. The waitress never even came back to our table, except to drop the check.

The food was nothing stellar for any of us. The restaurant never filled up in the hour we were there. Isn't it better to be making SOME money than to have an empty table?

I have never been treated so poorly in a restaurant in my life. I am generally easy going and forgiving for poor service, but I will NEVER return there. And would never recommend someone else to go there either to support such a place.

A safe bet that's not too pricey.

For this neighborhood, Peter's is fine...food is pretty good and prices are especially reasonable. If you're looking for a quick bite before heading off to Lincoln Center, and are not looking to drop a ton of money, this is a good bet. Linguini with pesto was delish, daily specials such as risotto are often really good as well. The only downside is the nearby bar, which can spill over into the dining room and get REALLY loud. But the waitstaff is casual, nice enough. Not a glowing recommendation to be sure, but there really aren't very many GOOD inexpensive restaurants around here. It's a safe bet.

Good Service & Tasty Pasta

My teenaged daughter and I decided to try Peter's after looking over their eclectic menu. To accommodate my personal preferences, the waiter helped me customize a pasta dish from what was on the menu. He was very pleasant, prompt and professional. My daughter had the tricolored rotini in pesto sauce and she loved it...I did too...very tasty! I had tortellini in a white cream sauce, which was also good, but I had my eye on the juicy looking burger that another patron at the next table was having, and I wish I had tried that instead. We also shared a Caesar salad that was fairly portioned and delicious.

I had a little difficulty with the temperature in the dining room, as the overhead fans were running full speed and the glass doors were fully opened on a very cool evening. A manager offered to move us to another table that might be more comfortable, but unfortunately this helped us only a little.

I have to agree with another reviewer that the beverages are overpriced; my daughter's Coke was a tiny 8 oz. vintage bottle, (we laughed when we saw it), and the coffee was also overpriced. However, I thought the entrees were reasonably priced and the portions were hearty.

Overall, I would recommend Peter's. The food, casual decor, and service were all very good. My daughter, who attends school nearby, plans on making Peter's her local eatery for our future outings.

DON"T GO TO THE BAR

Horribly rude bar tender with a major attitude. Staff along with manager were extremely nasty. Bar tender was very discourteous tos ay the least.
