Beacon is excellent
by diamaant_
This hotel has suprisingly high standards concidering the very moderate prices. Fresh rooms with mini-kitchens, safe neighbourhood, close to subway etc. Plus: just across the street from fantastic Fairway food market! Also close to shops like Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Barnes and Nobles and loads of others. I would definitely come again!
- Pros: Moderate prices, Close to Fairway, Nice and safe
Excellent choice

This is a great choice for those searching for the lower-priced hotels that don't want to share a bathroom. If you're staying for a whole week, consider the suites (buying food at the market across the street and cooking it in our kitchenette was a delight...and a money saver!) The neighborhood is extremely safe, and the hotel is very close to the subway. Close to Central Park and the heart of the Upper West Side.
- Pros: Location, Safe, near subway
- Cons: , hard mattresses
An understated uptown haven.

The Scene
This place has that resolute, uptown feel that's so different from the hustle and noise of midtown. Reflecting the tone of the neighborhood, it glimmers quietly among its neighboring residences, showing visitors the way true Manhattanites live. Still, it's within easy reach of several key area attractions: Lincoln Center, Central Park and the monolithic American Museum of Natural History with its Rose Center for Earth and Space.
The Details
The rates belie the size and quality of the 220 spacious rooms. They have kitchenettes and enormous closets, which are almost unheard of except in the best Manhattan hotels. Don't feel like cooking? Guests have access to an on-site 24-hour coffee shop, as well as the thousands of great restaurants in Manhattan. The Beacon Theater on the ground floor is a popular venue for music events.
The Beacon is a GEM!!!

The Beacon is truly a charming place to call "home" when we stay in New York. It has large well-appointed rooms and suites and a friendly, accomodating staff. Their rates are on the low side of moderate in comparison to other hotels nearby. I would recommend it to anyone.
Who needs room service when The Beacon is just a leisurely stroll from the nearest deli, cafe, or restaurant, all of whom will deliver right to your door on demand!
A big plus for us is the kitchenette that The Beacon has in every room. We buy our food at Fairway, the 24-hour market across the street, and spend the money we save enjoying everything else New York's Upper Westside has to offer.
We've stayed at The Beacon for years and we will be back again and again.
Rating: 10++!
- Pros: Friendly Staff, Great Location, Large Rooms
- Cons: Sells out quickly,, need to book early.

Second time staying in one of the suites at Hotel Beacon and very satisfied. Appreciated the kitchen area, the grocery across the street, and being close to Zabars! Would not hesitate to stay there again, especially with a family.
- Pros: clean, roomy, felt safe
