grateful for Gracious
by MadisonEvans
Luxurious linens... Innovative new appliances... visiting Gracious Home is an inspiring experience, even for a New Yorker with limited space to house such beautiful goods. I love the idea that such a chic shop started off as a hardware store. Visit the website storeadore to receive free shipping with a purchase of fifty dollars or more.
Great Home Store Except for One Employee
by abcgongzhu
I have always enjoyed going to Gracious Home for many of my household needs. They always have a nice selection and high-quality merchandise. The staff is usually pretty helpful except for this last time I went. The woman at the desk on the first floor by the entrance was AWFUL. I asked her a question and she interrupted me to talk to her coworkers THREE times. I had to repeat the question three times and I was obviously angry at her lack of customer service. Luckily this was not my first experience with the store, else I would not come back.
- Pros: good selection, quality merchandise, convenience
- Cons: irritating staff
I would DIE without this store!
by yippee1999
This is without a doubt one of the best stores in the city, all categories of stores considered. Everything is of high-quality. Shelves are always perfectly-stocked. They always have everything I could ever think I need, and more. The staff are professional and always polite and helpful (which is all too rare in this city!) Whoever manages this store does a terrific job. I would be devastated if tihs store were to ever close for whatever reason.
- Pros: Quality, Selection, Staff
Everything for the home--including the kitchen sink.

The Scoop
The charms of mom-and-pop hardware stores are often hidden among assortments of nuts, bolts and screws. Although Gracious could house ten such establishments within its walls, it doesn't fail to deliver that feeling. The essentials like light bulbs and mops are joined by needlepoint tissue box holders and star-shaped door knobs. It's been a palace of urban domesticity since it opened as a small neighborhood shop in 1963.
The Goods
It might be easier to list what you can't get here than what you can. They boast of having 175,000 items in stock--and looking at the walls and shelves, that seems quite believable. Gracious Home has filled its three floors with almost everything you need to make your home the one you've always dreamed of, at prices that are reasonable for this town. And while they won't throw in the kitchen sink, they will help install it.
Hard to make do without it

What a great store! I think I could actually move in there, live comfortably, and not have to ever go anywhere else to find everything I could possibly need. It's like 20 stores in one. My daughter moved from NYC to Maryland 3 months ago and we actually traveled back to Gracious Home twice to buy stuff for the new house. Wish they had a DC area branch!
Yeah, we've got that...
