Delicious Home Cooked Meals

by agreensp

wonderful brunch and warm and hearty dinners. can be crowded on the weekends, but one of the best nyc brunches around. low lighting and eclectic country decor make the dinner experience top of the line as well!

RUDEST WAITRESS EVER

by gramgirl

Let us forget for a moment the food that they serve here.

Let's talk about the RUDE staff.

I came in to catch up with two of my best girl friends whom I haven't seen since they have been traveling. I came in with my Yankee fan gear because I was just watching the game the Yankees had with the Toronto Blue Jays that day.

The waitress looked at me from head to toe and said, "miss you really can't sit here, because you see, this is a passage way." Okay, that's fine. But the restaurant was not full at that time and I didn't think they needed any reservations if I was just popping in to say hi.

The waitress suggested "I can move you over to that corner," and move us she did, in the same tiny two-person table. So there was still not place left for me, she was nice enough to get me a chair. I asked her for the menu and said I wanted to see their dessert menu, I was craving for something cold because it was hot and humid that day. I also said "Can I see your dessert menu? I'm thinking of getting a shake." And the nicest waitress ever answered, "OUR SHAKES ARE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE WE MAKE OUR OWN ICE CREAM HERE, BUT IF YOU THINK YOU CAN AFFORD IT I'LL GO GET YOU THE MENU."

Sorry? Since when is a person's clothing a basis for assessment of capacity to pay? The shake by the way is only $10, not that ridiculously expensive, not even too many choices, and definitely something I can afford.

Great place.

Met with an old friend here. When I called to make a reservation (they don't take any) I was surprised to reach a voice menu. I left my name and number and was surprised when the manager called me back from her cell phone explaining how she was on vacation and so could not take my call. Loveliest gesture ever! She also have recommendations of what to order.

Their freshly squeezed tomato juice was superbly fresh. The migas I ordered was tasty and the ice cream felt genuinely home made.

A good brunch place.

Service was great...food was not

by Flushingsfinest08

I took my bestfriend here for a birthday breakfast, and was surprised to find a line outside (it was about 55 degrees), where we had to wait 20 minutes for a table. The first problem was the horrible coffee, followed by the dry and flavorless banana nut pancakes. My omelette was okay, but the "biscuits" they serve with them are nothing more than what you find in the bread aisle of the supermarket. To say that I was not impressed would be an understatement. Our waitress was great, but I most certainly will not be back, and now I owe my bestfriend another breakfast...

  • Pros: Waitress and bus boys were great
  • Cons: Food was horrible and overpriced, wait time was ridiculous

Impressed by a juicy burger

by stu87

I ordered a burger, with additional cheddar cheese. I was seated outside for there's no room inside and it was a very hot day. However, burger was GREAT! Bun was toasted and still hot. The beef petty was juicy and well-cooked. It was a mouth- watering and until now. Waiting deserves it.

  • Pros: Great taste, relatively fast served, friendly service.
  • Cons: Waitings, so many people allmost every time.

Average Entree Tasty Cake

by thedood2002

After hearing about Good Enough to Eat while waiting in line at another renowned brunch spot months ago, I finally made the trek up to the UWS for a weekday lunch. My fellow diners and I ordered a breakfast quesadilla and lump crabmeat pizza as they were both specials, as well as a macoroni and cheese.

Unfortunately, the quesadilla was on the small side (6 inch diameter) and tasted mediocre (sausage, egg, peppers with GETE salsa and sour cream). The pizza which I sampled was tasty but rather doughy. The mac and cheese was cheesy but definitely on the oily side.

Having waited about 20-25 minutes for our entrees, we had plenty of time to take in the knicks knacks and very neat decorative paper spring flowers, not to mention the bake goods' display case. Having given in to temptation, we sampled the banana chocolate chip peanut butter frosted cake which was very good.

Our waiter was attentive and polite.

I suppose I will have to give the GETE brunch menu a chance sometime, but will not rush to do so. My allegiance still lay with a certain Gramercy eatery's brunch menu.

  • Pros: Cake
  • Cons: Pricey given the mediocrity

WHY SUBMIT YOURSELF TO THE ABUSE

by Gige

When I first moved to the UWS, I thought this place great. I would get up frequently on Sundays and order pick up. HOWEVER, GETE has completely gone down hill - mostly in terms of their staff. The last time I called for take out, they said they never do that on Sundays - which was a lie since I had been doing it for months before. Then, I called for delivery, which their website clearly says they do but do not mention a radius. I called and after being directed to the dining room (when you call there one of those annoying automated menus) and asked for delivery. The lady puts me on hold. She gets back on the line and asks for my address, which I give. She then says she's not sure she can do that and asks that I hold, I am then put down but not actually put on hold so that I can hear "Can we deliver there?" "Eh. . . . . .ew, no." The staff member gets back on the phone and tells me they only do a 5 block radius. True answer or what they wanted to say at the time????? I think it's very clear to me based on my experience and others this place is not good enough to waste your time trying to receive service from the staff who doesn't want to be there. As for the food, was good once upon a time, but I haven't been allowed since they didn't want to deliever to me.

  • Pros: absolutely none
  • Cons: don't care about their customers, specially once loyal customers

A good breakfast/brunch spot.

by mccartneyd4113

Great brunch. The french toast, pancakes, farm fresh eggs and the freshly squeeze OJ are reasons to come here to feed the furnace.

  • Pros: Good spot for brunch for 2...or 4.
  • Cons: Oft times a wait for a table; the place is small.
