Besides this place being adorable, and cozy, it has my favorite food- Mac n Cheese...and it's the best I've ever had... I love it and everyone else I know who's had it, loves it as well. They also have some of my favorite beers on Tap, so that's always something that goes well with my food ... LOVE IT!!!

Pros: Best Mac n Cheese

Cons: NONE

I had all intentions of stopping in after reading a job post online I was interested in. I came by once and the owner wasn't there but was definitely happy with the beers on tap and the snacks at the bar (Stella and goldfish)! I came back another night because I wanted to try their food and they had outdoor seating (big bonus!). The first time I stopped by it was pretty dead but I went back on a Thurs. night and it was packed--and now I know why. Their food is awesome! So far the best burger I have had in NYC and I've been here for about 6 months now. Although we weren't able to sit outside, we were led to the back room which was pretty quiet but perfect for catching up with my friend. The waitstaff was friendly, the host was incredibly nice (not to mention apologetic for not being able to seat us outside) and our overall experience was great. Although they haven't hired me (yet!) they have definitely earned themselves a new patron--and quite possibly a regular.

Pros: good food

Cons: outdoor seating not always available

What a wonderful spot! My husband and I came into Fred's after years of walking right past it. On this particular day we decided to finally check it out. We were greeted warmly by one of the owners, Kimberly, who was particularly gracious. What a dinner! We started with the crispy calamari and it was wonderful; very light with a spicy red sauce. I had a wonderful piece of Mahi Mahi and my husband had a crock full of Chili with melted Cheese on top with tortilla chips and a side salad that was simply scrumptious. Our waitress was a beautiful and friendly young woman (Megan?). From the second we walked into the door until the moment we left, we felt at home in this cozy, vibrant environment. I'm so glad we finally made the trip inside! Fred's will surely become one of our regular spots in the neighborhood. Thank you Fred's!

While FRED'S can get crowded on the weekends (especially during brunch) this is a stand-by for UWS residents. They have excellent food and a genuine staff that is fun and competent. Unlike other stuffy "high end" places, FRED'S does comfort food like nobody else. They are dog friendly outside in the warmer months too.

Pros: Staff, Hosts, Family friendly

Cons: crowded, sometime noisy

What a great spot! We just moved to the neighborhood and stumbled upon FRED'S...we LOVE this place. My husband and I sat at the bar and ordered burgers and a side of Mac-n-Cheese and it was simply delicious! The bartender was great he bought us a round because it was our first time there...we felt like we were at "Cheers!" Can't wait to go back and try their brunch!

Pros: Great homey feel, staff, food

I've ordered once before, meatloaf, and I give it a B. But today's order experience, well... Without any doubt this is the worst mac & cheese I've ever had in my life. Very little flavor of cheese, very strong flavor of wine. Yes, wine - like you might put in a nice sauce for chicken. Who puts wine in cheese sauce for a classic comfort food? Salad was a limp cupful of field greens that were the rage in the 1980's. I ordered sauteed veges and received crunchy sort-of-steamed veges. To top it off, since I had to order a minimum $20 for delivery with credit card, and my order thus far was only $19.80, I asked the order taker what the best dessert was. Short pause, "carrot cake" he says, so I order one. Clearly this is a carrot cake from the freezer section of the quantity foods catalog the head cook uses. Sad experience for my supper this evening. I'm now eating some cottage cheese and an apple since that entire $28 meal (including a tip for the quite friendly delivery person), is now in my trash pail.

Pros: fast delivery

Cons: food is so overpriced it makes it that much more disappointing

It's a neighborhood spot that has great food, especially their meatloaf! All other food is terrific as well. It's great to go if you want to be somewhere that makes you feel unrushed and welcome. My only gripe is with Monday nights bartender....he should be as attentive to the non-regulars as he is to the regulars! Otherwise, it's a terrific place that you'll just want to linger in!

Pros: atmosphere, food, location

Cons: bar tender service a bit spotty.

Though the place looked packed as we approached it on an overcast Sunday afternoon, the Lady Friend and I were seated almost immediately. It could have been the L(B)F's good looks but the waitstaff seemed genuinely interested in making everyone's experience there a good one. The Lady Friend got the French toast and I got an omelette, and we managed to eat everything before it started to rain. This was my first brunch experience, and I would do it again with the Lady Friend.

Pros: Big portions, nice staff, good people-watching

Cons: Somewhat cramped

A very nice place, with great food where the friendly staff gets to know neighborhood regulars. Fred's can get crowded on the weekends, but it's worth the (usually) short wait. The home-style menu with such comfort foods as meatloaf and spaghetti with meatballs are all excellent. The ample portions fill you up, but you'll want to save some room for the desserts - which are also ample and scrumptious. Overall a great place for a nice date or a night out with friends.

Pros: good food, friendly staff, quick service

Cons: short wait, crowded
