Good scene

by angenyc

I usually don't hang out onthe upper west side, but i would go back to this bar.

It has a good vibe, drinks weren't really expensive, and the people were cool.

I would go back.

  • Pros: good vibe

Place was not my thing

by dominicanops

I went here with a friend since he told me the place was awesome. First thing, its overcrowded. When we got there we were stuck for about 2 minutes and could not move, it was pretty crazy. Second, I'm a young guy but the place was full of alot and I mean alot of "older" people. I saw dudes with full blown gray hair all over the place. Not saying old people can't have fun but man this place was ridiculous. The music was all eighties rock and I didn't enjoy it (they only played one rap song throughout the whole night). My biggest gripe with this place was the crowd.....WASP central, I was the only minority there (well, there was 1 asian chick) and felt extremely out of place, it was incredibly obvious. I can picture this place being appealing to older white people, but for a young minority it just wasn't cool. If you are below 25, minority and don't like 80's rock, then avoid at all costs, you will not enjoy yourself there. On the other hand, if you are 27+ and enjoy dancing to old school rock with other people, then I personally think you would enjoy this place. For me, it just wasn't diverse enough based on what my friend told me.

Cool Spot

by olpal

I went here last weekend with my friends and had the best time! it was one of my friends bday's and we were very happy with this place. The women were unreal and the drinks were very reasonable. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing as well. We're definitely going back very soon!

Awesome Music!!

by scatone

I recently went to Prohibition for a nice night out, and I must say, I was NOT dissapointed!! The music was phenominal, and the bartenders know how to service! We are definitely coming back to Prohibition often. Since there is no cover charge, we could spend more on drinks! :)

Finally! A great Saturday night

by nycgirl10128

Went there on a Saturday night for a little girls night out. It was such a nice escape from the frat boy scene on the Upper East Side. The band was GREAT ( The Gilfords) and really got the crowed dancing. I usually prefer a DJ but with song after song, they continued to keep everyone singing and dancing.

The crowed seemed a little older (late 20?s early 30?s) and totally not B&T. (Which is always nice.) The staff was great and I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to let their hair down, get some drinks and sing along with the band,

  • Pros: Great crowed, friendly staff, great band
  • Cons: crowded but the back by the pool table offered a nice escape

Promising place ruined by petty rules

by jazzguy

This place could be a really good, vibey, relaxing hangout if it weren't for their idiotic rules. They wouldn't let us sit down at a table because we weren't ordering food, even though there were 15 free tables at 11.30pm at night. As if 15 tables are going to walk in and order food at 11.30! But the "hostess" couldn't think for herself - those were her instructions and she stuck to them like dog poo to a shoe. And the guy at the front insisted on carding my friend from overseas who is 37 years old. He didn't have US ID, so he had to go all the way back to his hotel and get a passport. He could clearly see that my friend was over 21, but he couldn't think for himself - he just asked everyone for ID and that was his programmed grunt.

So we ended up standing. That would have been fine had we been allowed to just stand there. But no, even that wasn't possible - the servers had "rules" that you couldn't stand in places that got in their way as they moved through the tables. So we couldn't sit down (15 empty tables), we couldn't stand where we could see the band (in the servers way), and we had been treated by children by the guy at the front door.

My friend and I eventually just left after 1 beer because we were so annoyed.

  • Pros: Great band, Cool decor, Nice variety of outdoor & indoor space
  • Cons: Petty rules, nowhere to sit or stand

Wednesdays after work into the morning!

by esmosk

So, a friend and I went there a few weeks back to grab ONE drink on a Wednesday night. Turns out, the band was really great, the crowd was fun, the owner was so nice and social and one drink turned into several. Eventhough waking up for work the next morning was not fun, the causal Wednesday night turned out to be a blast! Definitely come check it out- fun music, dancing, drinking, and people. Who knew!?!?!?

  • Pros: Great Music and Crowd
  • Cons: Can be too loud if you are looking for a place to have a deep conversation.

Liberal libations abound at this Depression era-themed locale.

by Contributor

The Scene
This dimly lit Upper West Side watering hole dresses up in 1920s speakeasy-style. Exposed brick walls, wooden booths and an attentive black-clad waitstaff--perpetually on the ready to refill a glass--give the spacious saloon class, but two sports-tuned TVs above the bar and a pool table keep it common. An air of Old-World romance is also palpable--it's quiet enough for a first date, but loud enough that there's something to talk about.

The Draw
Running contrary to its name, the bar's drink menu brims with alcoholic treats--and every night the 20-something locals cram in accordingly. Eight draft beers alongside the house Bacardi mojito with fresh lime juice and the Ciroc white grape martini--among other house specialties--can be weighed down by warm bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and cherry sauce.

Rockin Time

by b00pi3flak3s

A cool name, hip crowd, reasonable drink prices, and live music ... what more could you ask for? First off, more space because the place was very crowded and secondly more staff as they looked severely understaffed to handle such a large crowd of folks. Other than that, this is a neat place to hop to on the upper west side.

  • Pros: Value, Drinks, Music
  • Cons: Crowded, Small

Good place, ruined by over-loud band

by matto6

The hipster manager should realize that his patrons are not college students, and the bands don't have to blast out the venue. You have to yell to the person 6 inches away from you to talk.

  • Pros: Service
  • Cons: Pricey
