This is a great place to go and chill out on the upper west side. Mixed crowd, and mixed music. Something for everyone.

My girlfriend and I stumbled on this spot and decided to take a gamble by going in. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambience, decor, and handsomely diverse crowd. The people there seemed to be having fun and were dancing like no one was watching (which is a good thing). Our only complaint was that apparently, there was some rule that stated that you must check your coat. (which is somewhat understandable). However there was an obnoxious bouncer who was acting if he was on "coat patrol". He diligently searched for people who had their coats on and made them take the coats to the coat check. He actually stood over a woman who wasn't there for five minutes to the point where I overheard her say "OKAY! I'M TAKING IT OFF". I thought that he was going to unbutton her coat for her. Clearly, this woman didn't have an submachine gun sewed in the satin lining of her jacket. (I digress) Other than "coat patrol boy" the lounge was a nice place. Judging by the people having so much fun, I'll go ahead and assume that the "coat thing" was just a one time deal.

This place is great for a date or even a small group of friends if you just want to sit and chat. The upstairs has couches with little coffee tables and very low lighting that provides an intimate setting where you can actually relax, talk, and HEAR the person you're with. Service has always been good, although the drinks are a bit pricey. However, the drinks are HUGE, so you basically get a double which makes up for the price. Great place!
Pros: atmosphere
Cons: only 2 unisex bathrooms, so usually a line

On a sibling's recommendation I hosted my birthday party at The Evelyn Lounge. Jefferson is who you want to talk to- he took spectacular care to make sure we were well taken care of, and in addition to some comp drinks and several check-in's to make sure we were okay, he generously gave our party six tables along the dance floor, no charge. Now I cannot guarantee he will extend the same graciousness your way, but any establishment that goes so far to make someone they have never before met have such a fantastic evening deserves a sky-high rating. Hats off to the tremendous DJ Alex J (incredible), diverse crowd, and perfect ambiance. A+! If you are looking to host a party or event but are unsure of the location, check Evelyn out!
Pros: Marie, our lovely and patient waitress
Cons: ...? Very crowded but in a good way.

Went here for the first time last night and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Relaxed feel...tons of couches and spots to hang out upstairs. Drink prices are reasonable ($7) without specials. The gem of this place is downstairs where you walk in to find tons of party space, two more bars and great rooms to hang out. The upstairs was great to sit and drink as the windows were open so we could enjoy the weather. I think the downstairs is only open from like Thurs - Saturday but not sure. I'm still surprised at how big this space is and I'll definetly be coming back with more people. They've also closed the Kitchen down and are focusing on what they seem to do best. Serving drinks and having a great place to relax and hang-out.
Pros: Atmosphere and Space!
Cons: didn't check it out sooner

I have come to the Evelyn Lounge on several occasions and always found it charming and a huge asset to the limited nightlife of the Upper West Side...until this past Saturday. My roomate asked me to chose and host her 26th birthday party, and I thought of the Evelyn immediately. I brought about 30 high income professional indviduals with me. The first thing we came across was the doorman who insisted there was a five dollar cover charge(after we had to wait outside in the freezing cold for him to move his car so he could come over and charge us). I asked if my roomate would be admitted for free since it was her birthday and we were bringing so much business. He laughed and gave me a lot of attitude when I asked if he was the owner. I knew he wasn't because no smart businessman would act that way. Obvioulsy we all have more than enough money to pay the five dollars, but its the point of making someone feel special and this establishment has failed to do this in this instance. This has embarrased me in front of my friends and I will definately not visit EVER AGAIN. This plass lacks class, and style, and has employed some very rude individuals. Congrats on losing my business!

Love this place! Great fireplaces. Drinks were good, though pricey. It's one of my favorite NYC places to hang. Definitely take someone you want to get a little closer to. Veeeerrrry romantic.
Pros: Romantic (has fireplaces!), Good Music, Good Food, Good Service
Cons: Expensive

The romantic gothic decor of the Evelyn was spoiled by the lazy and arrogant service. The poor service motivated me to change the venue of my birthday party in the middle of the actual party. The waitress was either too lazy or timid to walk to the back of the lounge to take drink orders for the guests at my birthday party. She also complained that I should take the drink orders from my guests and then relay the orders to her. My thirsty guests and I eventually abandoned the Evelyn Lounge and settled a few blocks north at Calle Ocho -- a good call! We celebrated in a hip alcove near the bar, the waitress was so nice, and the ceviche is luscious!

We thought the Evelyn would be a nice place for a birthday celebration but it turns out we could not be more wrong. The "hostess" was rude and generally had a bad attitude about everything including her job of managing the flow of patrons. She was more concerned with her sour facial expressions than getting a capable waitress to replace the incompetent wannabe that could not take a drink order to save her life. Aside from the inexperienced staff that cant handle a crowd, the Evelyn could be the right place for you if you are a twosome looking for a quiet night to enjoy drinks with minimal service required, However, if you are looking for a lounge that can accomodate even a small group, BEWARE. There are so many alternatives in the UWS where you can enjoy your night with friends.
Pros: fireplace
Cons: inexperienced waitstaff, rude hostess
