Good Atmosphere; Great for Visitors

by repole28

Took friends from out of town there. It has a neighborhood feel, while being upscale enough to be a chic New York spot. The crusted scallops were huge, and prepared perfectely. The service was warm and friendly but arms-length enough to not be overbearing. Would go back in a second.

  • Pros: Excellent Food (the most important thing, right?)
  • Cons: Somewhat Loud

Delicious fish, dependable food

by foodie611

Went last night for the second time and was not disappointed. Fish was fresh and delicious and service was great. Tried the filet mignon maki roll which was delic. We also had the oven roasted sea bass and the soy ginger roasted cod which were both excellent.

This is a great place for a family meal. Nice decor and relaxed setting.

  • Pros: food, service
  • Cons: nothing

Good Atmosphere and Fantastic Food

by coygrier

This was another visit to this establishment and, as in past visits, was a pleasurable experience. Their service from host/hostess stand to final bill by server was a pleasure. The food selections are almost massive in quantity, the quality of those I have consumed have been well balanced with various spices/sauces. Wines are more than appropriate. Wait service is excellent, courteous, knowledgable of menu and it's items and worth the visit.

Good food with noise at full volume

by foogy

Went there with my girlfriend. Restaurant is very noisy, very loud. Waiter talked at full voice to people at next table while he served us. Waiter kept talking at full voice to pepole at next table for most of our meal. Food is fresh and good if you do not mind clanging, banging, dozens of people taking at full volume.

Solid

by bigglesworth96

Went there last night with family in town, it's always reliable with excellent food and great service. I've been a few times when it was crowded and servers weren't as good, but we were there early so it wasn't as packed and everyone was very attentive. For a nice dinner out in the neighborhood, you can't go wrong here.

  • Pros: Good menu
  • Cons: Crowded and loud

Friday night dinner

by waseem

Had dinner there this past friday. Started off with the lobster bisque. The lobster comes out sitting in the center of a empty soup bowl, the server then has this metal tin cup which pours the bisque into the bowl. That was nice! But we got no spoons. We told the waitress we needed spoons, to which she said I know... there just comming out of the wash. ARE YOU SERIOUS? your gonna serve me soup and make me wait three minutes for a spoon. I've never once had this happen in a restaurant before. Once I got my spoon, the bisque was quite tasty. Ordered a bottle of Chardonnay (Michel, Chablis, 2004 $53) markup was normal...its just not that good of a chardonnay..too boring. I had the wasabi sesame seed crusted Tuna rare...it was a good dish. The teriyaki flavoring of the noodles it was served with was a tad over powering. My girlfriend had the Pistachio Salmon. It was very nice as well..it has this parmesan broth/foam which gives is it quite a nice flavor. Dessert..should have been comp'd for having to wait 3 minutes for a spoon..but whatever. We shared there carrot cake, which was delicious as well. It comes topped with ginger icecream and they drizzle some caramel at the table. Our total came to $153.00 , no 20% tip tonight sorry...15% only for making me wait for my soup spoon)

  • Pros: Elegant Entree's and Great lobster bisque
  • Cons: Slow service

Great location, Fresh seafood

by assadm

This is great spot to be in especially in nice weather where you can sit outside. Food is very good especially the shell fish. I recently had the Tuna/Salmon tartar appetizer and is was very nice, however, my crabcake sandwhich was ok at best. Service was good and friendly. Very nice bar inside. I would def recommend it.

  • Pros: Location, ambience

A safe harbor for seafood on the Upper West Side.

by Contributor

The Scene
Handsome dark wood furnishings, black-and-white photographs and big mirrors create a classy, pseudo-maritime atmosphere at this Upper West Side outpost of the ever-expanding BR Guest chain. As with its sister Grills, Blue Water and Atlantic, Ocean Grill matches quality seafood with a bustling scene--it's always packed, yet large enough to make getting a table relatively easy on short notice.

The Food
The fare is reliable and reasonably priced, if not wildly inventive. Appetizers are mostly solid: Calamari is juicy, chilled beets and goat cheese salad is refreshing and caramelized onion and gruyere tart is satisfyingly crunchy, if a little bland; only an overly citrusy black bass ceviche fails to please. Standout entrees include seared rare big eye tuna (partly on account of the delicious forbidden black rice that accompanies it) and tender red snapper with a creamy celery root puree. The seafood tower is generous and very fresh.
