simply great

by amyrvt

i've ordered from several mexican places in the area and all have been below average. This place is great. tasty, fresh, not oily like so many of the other mexican joints. The service was a little slow but I was in no hurry. Definitely would go back.

Great Mexican Food!!!

by nyjenn28

Being from Texas and a vegetarian, I have yet to find a great mexican food place in New York City, until now! I have lived here for over a year now, and finally I stumbled onto La Cocina. This place reminds me of home(Texas). They are super vegetarian friendly as well!!! I had the vegetarian tamales!! AMAZING! the hot sauce and the guacamole, were amazing. The best guacamole I have ever had! This place is great and I can't wait to go back and try something else!!!

  • Pros: food amazing!!
  • Cons: pricey

What happened to this place?

by JLHowe

Used to be great Mexican food, but the last couple of times have been horrible especially last night. Ordered a chicken burrito and was served chicken fajita. When I told the waiter this was not what I ordered. He said it would be easier if I just kept the faita and he would only charge me for the price of the burrito. I said no that I ordered a burrito because that is what I wanted. When the burrito finally arrived, my friends had all ready eaten their meals by now, the burrito was filled with rice and two small chunks of chicken. Again the waiter was useless and I figured I cut my losses and just get out of this place and get a slice of pizza next door.

This used to be a great place, but I won't be going back any time soon.

Delicious authentic Mexican

by jacruzy

This place is definitely recommended. Just went last night with a few friends and we had a great time. We were there for about 3 hrs and never felt rushed. The food is great, the drinks are great and most of all the staff is very friendly and attentive. The decor and music make it a very cozy and chill spot. It?s not to loud and not to quiet. La Cocina is a high quality Mexican restaurant at a reasonable price.

  • Pros: food, drinks, music and friendly staff

I was here last week for happy hour and the frozen margarita's were out of this world. The 2 for 1 drinks are something that i took full advantage of. I also had the chicken fajitas which were very tasty. All in all this was a great expierence and perfect place to go for an early dinner.

  • Pros: Strong margaritas
  • Cons: none

Worst food and service in the city

by tomiy

I wonder how their business can survive.

Last time we went there, my husband got his dish and finished it.

I still did not get mine and waited for forty minutes even they were not busy.

They even did not apologize to me and the manager and the host started staring at me. Where are they from??

  • Pros: Worst management
  • Cons: Leftover food

We had a large group for dinner on a Friday night. They were so hospitable and welcoming, gave us a big space downstairs, waitor staff was very attentive, friendly and no one rushed us. The portions were huge and everyone enjoyed their meal. We all had such a good time, & they really made us feel "at home".

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly, Large Portions
