Horribly rude bardender
by knorvells
So, I came in recently for a friends birthday. I was having such a good time until I went to pay. There was some things on the bill that I was sure i didn't order. I asked the bartender about it and he went from nice and flirty all night to rude and wanted to kick me out in two seconds. I said I didn't think i had one of the items on the bill. I said i wasn't the drunk and knew what I had ordered, he then said well look at your tab, implying that I was drunk. I couldn't believe how nice to mean this guy went as soon as as I asked a question. If I had ordered it I would have paid it with a 20% tip. Just by questioning this one thing he freaked was rude came back to me and said "Oh well I voided your bill and tried to charge you half but now your card isn't working so I'm voiding the whole bill". I didn't want to pay half I wanted to pay the bill that I owed. I work in the hospitality business and I treat everybody with respect, it's my job. I have never been treated so rudely and like whatever i said didn't matter as I was treated here.
- Pros: nice space
- Cons: some of the waitstaff
amazing 21st birthday
by koshie
I had the best night of my life, honestly. It was my 21st birthday party, and the party planners were amazingly helpful and really made my night one to remember. I held the party in the Living room, it was perfect for people who wanted to sit because there were comfy couches, they set up a beer pong table for us where we played beer pong and flip cup, and the staff was incredible. Our cocktail waitress was such a sweet heart, and the bouncers were so nice. they treated us all like VIP and we all had such a great time. Go to Jakes Dilemma and have a party!
AVOID.. RUDE STAFF.. KICKED OUT FOR NOT TIPPING 20%
by bet579
Do not recommend this place at all. My brother was kicked out of the bar for tipping less than 20% on the first round of drinks he bought. Mind you, these were bottled beers! First. Tipping should not be MANDATORY. Second. Good service=good tip and bad service=bad tip. the bartender was RUDE and did NOT even deserve the 10% tip my brother did give him. There was absolutely no justice for being kicked out of a disgusting run down bar because you do not tip 20%. Does not make sense to me at all. The bouncers were VERY rude and screamed at us while we were getting into our cabs after getting kicked out. I warned them I would make it public that I was disappointed in the service we received and the bouncer's only response was that "they won't be shutting down because they are losing one customer and that he made more money in one night than we did in weeks". It is ridiculous to treat customers badly because you think their input means nothing... To put it simply, Brother Jimmy's, Gin Mill, and Bourbon Street are much better versions of this college style bar and the staff at these other bars are much more pleasant than the rude, uneducated staff at Jakes.
- Pros: located in a good area
- Cons: rude staff, dirty bathrooms, too much of a frat boy scene.
What a hidden treasure!!!! Pleasantly surprised!!!
by GraceSedge
I went to Jake's on a Saturday night , I was a lil skeptical .......when I walked in I was a lil nervous seeing the crowd and the masses; however, I must say I was so pleasently surprised!!! The drinks were sooo cheap for the area, the bartender was sooo friendly and patient with me even when I didn't know my drink and she had about 25 other people in her face yelling their orders.....Great music the DJ was such a great mix....everyone was just chill just trying to have a good time.... I was definitely recommend Jake's Dilemma to chill people who are just looking to go out and have a fun but interesting night with some friends. All around well done Jake's Dilemma. I'm hooked!
- Pros: great bartenders, friendly staff, cheap drinks, great atmosphere
- Cons: none
Not good!

Good Fun, Good Company, and an Overall Good Loose Night in NYC!
by nycrespo
I've gone to Jake's a few times in the last few years, and everytime I go, I've had a great time. Some nights are better than others, but there are no complaints. The bartenders are on top of everything; I've never had to wait drastically long for service. Booze is decently priced, and no one is pretentious. You can talk to anyone there. Everyone there is out to get loose and have fun. You have your occasional person trying to start trouble, but the bouncers are always on top of their game. I've had such a good time there everytime I go, I seriously make it a weekly outing, b/c you never know what'll happen!
Never had the food there, but it seems to get served pretty late into the evening. So if the munchies kick in, you'll def be able to get service.
With Jake's, you either love it or you don't. If you think you've past your prime and too cool, then better luck else where. But if you're out to have a good fun time and relive your college days, DEFINITELY GO! It s just that kinda place.
- Pros: Bartenders, Wide Selection of Beer, Good Company
- Cons: No dance space, mid-size space
No Specials On Friday - Go with your group and you can have a good time
by cardplayer
I would have to say all in all this is an average bar. Went there on Friday and was paying $5 for Bud Lights. Seems that they have specials everyday but Friday. Bartenders were great as it was packed with a younger college crowd and you could still get a drink without a long wait. Had no problems whatsoever with any staff or any members of the crowd and even though it was packed everybody was getting along.
The bar is what it is...a college crowd that likes to booze. I would recommend going any night other than Friday so you can at least get a cheaper drink. If you do go on a Friday it cleared out after 1am.
The owners are doing themselves a disservice with this staff - too many better dive bar options in the neighborhood.
by drkdgr
I'm guessing that the owners/staff of the bar wrote at least half of those 'positive reviews'. Seriously, this place went downhill in the last few years(it was always a dive bar, but b/f it was awesome within the context of it's genre). If you like a place where the bartender slips your date his number (after witnessing it happen to another, the same guy tried to slip my buddy's girlfriend his number), or a bouncer constantly hanging around flirting with the ladies in your group, by all means go to Jake's. If you're a guy with a woman, it's actually quite difficult to keep the male staff away from you. Our only mistake was after subjecting ourselves to it once, we went back a second time and found similar results. Both nights I went to Jake's the cops came and both times the staff had truly instegated the problem(although the staff managed to get the customer reprimanded in both cases) - and both times it was over a woman. Jake's is a shadow of it 's former self, and will have a difficult time keeping good clientele with the current team. There are too many other 'similar' dive bar options in the area that do not pose such problems. Good location keeps it afloat, but the owners are doing themselves a disservice with this staff.
- Pros: Good Beer Selection
- Cons: Staff
Uptown College Bar
by b00pi3flak3s
Its a college dive bar, but one in which is a lot of fun especially during weekends. Its never been too crowded, drinks are pretty cheap, and the atmosphere is rowdy but casual.
- Pros: Value, Bartenders, Games
- Cons: Crowded
Always a fun low key hang out
by saraleebeth
This place is very low key and fun! My friends and I always have a great time with the adoring bartenders dave and jack. So cute you want to eat them. The drinks are great and munchies are available. Shoot pool, play beer pong or flirt. Whatever you decide you will be in good company. Plus, there are a string of similarly fun places on the block. Not the kind of place you go to be glamorous. Ideal to meet a pal for a drink
- Pros: not glitzy
- Cons: not glitzy
