Yeah this place is great. even when i lived downtown I'd come here. Dr. Coleman is a good doctor who really seems to care. They're always very helpful and friendly and they really take time to answer questions and give attention. Perfect place for eye exams, glasses and contacts.

I've been a customer of Pildes for many years, and can't recommend them highly enough. They have a great selection of frames, but what really separates them from other stores is the expertise of the staff and their extraordinary patience! They take the time to make sure that glasses fit correctly, and on the rare occassions when I've been unhappy with a purchase they have bent over backwards to fix the problem. I DON'T live in the neighborhood (Pildes is on the upper West Side, and I live in the Village), but I happily make the trip up to Pildes every time I need glasses - they're that good!

I had stepped on my favorite pair of sunglasses and was totally heart broken because I had actually sprung for a pair of Guccis. I thought that was $200 down the drain as one of the arms barely hung to the hing. I brought them to Pildes and they gladly took a look at them even though I hadnt purchased them there. They told me they would absolutly do their best to fix them though it looked fatal. Later that day they handed me my fully repaired sunglasses at no charge. The service was just outstanding, everyone was happy to help with big smiles. This is the place to go!
Pros: This place is perfect
Cons: Nothing

Living in the city has been a huge change since I moved here a few months ago. The first thing I knew I needed was to find a local eyeglass store to re-order contacts and to buy a new pair of shades for the summer. A friend suggested a neighborhood store called Pildes Optical - praising it for it's reasonable prices and very personable service. I decided to check it out myself and I'm glad I did. The selection is absolutely astonishing , especially compared to the limited selection I'm used to at the major franchise stores such as Lenscrafters or Pearl. They had everything from Stars and Stripes for kids , to high-end Sillouhetes and other big name brands such as Prada, Coach, Versace, Gucci, Mark Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc.. The service was very helpful, and as the other reviewer mentioned, extremely patient as well. We tried on numerous pairs of frames before finally deciding on a pair of Ray-Bans for a lot cheaper then I would have expected. The store itself is furnished very nicely, with a bright blue awning and stage lighting that hangs overhead a charcoal-colored ceiling. There are tons of eyewear posters, such as the huge Halle Berry banner that I couldn't help but stare at. They also have a very nice and experienced eye-doctor available on site seven days a week. Highly recommended.

living on the upper west side and finding a good optical store is a huge pain. I had to settle for pearl because they were close to my apartment on 70th. unfortunately the prices always seemed outrageous but I dealt with it. well it turns out their changing locations in a few weeks so I decided to look around for something new. then I remembered an optical store I always saw on my walk to the 79th st subway station. I went in to check it out and was impressed by the selection and sales staff. very pretty and helpful indeed. I picked out a pair of calvins and they were ready the NEXT DAY. pearl never could have pulled that off. impossible you say? well i thought so too at first, but I was proven wrong. very lovely store and patient patient patient staff.

Having spent too much time and money at the uber high end eyewear stores in the city I decided to give this neighborhood place a try and was glad I did. Their selection is great-from funky to conservative-there is really something for everyone here. More important the service is excellent. The woman salesperson not only had great suggestions but was patient to the point of suggesting more styles even after we had narrowed down our choices to several frames--all this service provided with incredible attentiveness and no attitude that often is present in eyewear shops. And if this wasn't reason enough to shop here the prices are reasonable-even on the high end frames of which they have many to choose. A great eyewear store.
Pros: service, selection
Cons: none
