TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

by carengur at Citysearch

Say they are ADA accessible but they are not compliant. Dirty. Rooms small. Credits you charge account inaccurately. Managers of no help. BEWARE

  • Pros: The only plus is the location.
  • Cons: Non-existent customer service.

Pig with lipstick

First of all, you're more than likely to be waiting more than 5 minutes everytime you use the elevator.... they take forever! The majority of rooms are crazy small --- barely enough room for two people to live comfortably. The decorative pillows are prickly.... the ones that you use to sleep on are super soft, offer no support and are too few. They give you two bath towels and are like sandpaper. The cleaning people don't have their own "staff" elevator to go down on, and usually are clogging up the elevator system. No vending machines.... one ice machine on the 12th floor. I find it amusing that when you walk into the hotel, that one of the signs with "On the Ave" has a "T" missing and it reads, "On Heave".

fabulous location, great hotel!!

by U2FanU2 at Citysearch

I recently stayed at On The Ave Hotel and had an amazing experience. We arrived to a friendly staff, eager to make sure we had a fabulous stay in the city!! the hotel was located in my favorite neighborhood in all of NYC--the fabulous Upper West Side in the 70's. The rooms werent reasonably priced and were a good size for NYC standards. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city, especially if you want to "breathe" and not be right in the madness of midtown!!!

  • Pros: location, adorable, great staff

Run!

by 1003reviewer at Citysearch

Booked a deluxe room at On The Avenue after my wedding on the Upper West Side. Showed up in wedding gown with groom in tow, so there could have been no doubt that this was our wedding night. The room was absolutely freezing, and when we called to complain, the desk was not apologetic and told us to OPEN THE WINDOWS to warm the place up. Except of course it was cold out, and the traffic would have been loud if we had opened the windows and we were only on the 4th floor so there would also have been a car exhaust issue. So we just turned up the heat and went looking for nice warm bathrobes. Except of course there was only one nice warm bathrobe. I dunno. One would expect a little more from a nice New York "boutique" hotel. One would expect more from Motel Six. Plus of course, professionalism aside, if the hotel staff had been human in any way they might have had the instinct to offer us a different room, or extra blankets, or anything to make the (I repeat) wedding night of a couple something other than an experience that roughly approximated winter camping with inadequate supplies. Fortunately we escaped their clutches the next day and had a honeymoon in a place warm enough to help us recover from the whole icy experience. The Excelsior or the Lucerne are other Upper West Side Hotels that might actually be worth checking out. This place is not.

  • Cons: poor service, uncomfortable room

Lacking service with a view

by cole728 at Citysearch

Recently stayed at the hotel (7/07). I found the customer service lacking, amenities nil, and the concept of a penthouse "suite" to mean something different. ( and not in a good way). The only thing that made the stay worth it was the magnificent view.

Hidden Treasure!

by kkanellis at Citysearch

I was so pleasantly suprised by this hotel! The hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms are cute, clean, the beds are so comfortable and the bathrooms are great! For the price, I have never seen such a cute hotel in NYC. I typically stay in Midtown or Chelsea but will definitely stay here again.

Minimalist splendor in a surprising uptown location.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
This hotel, which has a resolutely downtown feel, is a startling find uptown. The twelve-story building hails from 1922, but there's been a lot of work done on it since then. The lobby looks like it belongs in a modern art museum, with its low-slung fabric benches and subtle recessed lighting. Yet rooms are surprisingly affordable, including frequently-advertised specials to be found on the Web.

The Details
The 251 rooms are sleek and streamlined with smooth, white bed linens juxtaposed against matte wainscoting and sheer floor-to-ceiling drapes. All have high-speed Internet connections. The bathrooms represent the perfect marriage of form and function, with touches such as stainless-steel sinks. Original mixed media paintings by Puerto Rican New York artist Alfonso Munoz add attitude and color. Some of the rooms have wraparound glass terraces, which look out over the rooftops of the residential, Upper West Side neighborhood.

Good Hotel

by siseneg at Citysearch

I was very pleased with my stay at ON THE AVE hotel. The staff was acommodating and friendly (the doormen are young and easy on the eyes!) The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel does not have a bar, however there are a number of great restaurants right around the corner. It was a little noisy at night, but we were in the Big City afterall!

  • Pros: helpful, friendly staff; clean; good price
  • Cons: noisy; no bar
