An Upper West Side Euro bargain.

The Scene
Located on the comfortable Upper West Side, this European-style boutique hotel is a favorite for bargain-minded tourists. The rates are reasonable and the amenities are decent. Best of all, it is a short walk to museums, Central Park, and Columbia University.

The Details
Some of rooms have a shared bath, so make sure you specify your preference when making a reservation. Private facilities or not, all accommodations are equipped with Internet access and cable TV. Some rooms have kitchenettes, just in case you can't find a restaurant to your liking--but in this part of town, that would be difficult. Daily maid service is included. The friendly staff makes staying here a pleasant experience.

Great deal on the Upper West Side

Having stayed here twice over the period of a year and a half, I can say with confidence that this place is a good deal. You do get what you pay for -- very small rooms, spare amenities and, shall we say, quaint heating controls (too hot? Open the window). But the rooms are very clean, the staff is friendly, and you simply can't beat the price. Note that all floors are a walk-up; they will help you with luggage if you need it, but there is no elavator.

The location on the pleasant and safe Upper West Side is ideal -- close to the Subway, lots of eateries and shops, and of course Central park.
