It was the worst experience of my life I made an appointment with Robert Stuart himself but when I came in I was told that he would not be longer than 10+ minutes with his client before me I ended up waiting a half an hour just to get my haircut which made me late for my plans later on that evening. Not only was he late but he gave me a haircut from the 70's he totally neglected what I was requested. He didn't listen nor did he take his time; I left the salon feeling ichy which made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Not only was the service horrible the vibe that I got from the salon was not a good one. EVERYONE seemed so tense and fake. I would never reccommend this salon to anyone
Cons: Everything !

I recommend hair color by John. I've been to him twice now and both times I've had challenging requests. John has consistently given me great advice and exactly the color we discussed. Both times he really took the time to talk to me about options, find out exactly what I wanted, and make sure I knew exactly what the results would be before he put the color on my hair. He's a great stylist for people who are nervous about having their hair colored!

i went several times to Robert Stuart salon because of the positive reviews and its proximity to my home, but once I got a terrible haircut from Diane - when she finished, I couldn't believe it, and didn't trust her to repair the job. The ends were completely uneven and looked awful! I went the next morning to a different salon, and the stylist pointed out the incompetent work and charged me $20 less than the mess I paid for! If you go to the salon, only go to Robert - I hear he's the trustworthy guy there.

Wonderful Customer Service- Very willing and eager to make the customer happy!! After I left the first review about a negative experience with one stylist -Sandy- I was offered a prompt appointment with Robert free of charge. I will update review after Saturday's haircut! UPDATE: Just got my haircut with Robert yesterday. Wonderful experience. Robert takes the time to listen and understand what you want. The hair cut looks great with my face shape- which is hard to do with a more round face and curly hair. I definitely recommend Robert for girls looking for a good stylist for curly hair that is reasonably priced and don't want to spend hundreds at Ouidad for the same thing. Robert Stuart is dedicated to great customer service- and even said come back until we get it right. But it looks great first try! Oh and they don't push products on you like at other salons. I will be going back to Robert.
Pros: Robert is a great stylist for curly/ wavy hair.

I've been going to Baiba at Robert Stuart for several years, and she gives me a great haircut every time. Sometimes I have strayed because I either didn't want to wait for an appointment (walk-ins, read=scary) or because I wanted to go somewhere pretentious (read=expensive), but this only makes me go running back to Robert Stuart to see Baiba to fix whatever someone else mucked up. The salon is no frills, no nonsense, but the people are warm and friendly, and the best part is that they actually know how to cut hair!
Pros: Good value
Cons: Lackluster ambience

I have tried about 20 different stylists in the 6 1/2 yrs I have lived in new york, and i found Baiba at Robert Stuart Salon - she is incredible!!! every time she cuts my hair, people comment on it even just walking down the street. I love the salon, i love the people there - but I have to say, if Baiba left for a different place, I would follow her. Never had a stylist I felt faithful to! Hope she stays because the salon is also wonderful - such a refreshing atmosphere for Manhattan.
Pros: Baiba, atmosphere, value
Cons: ...?

Robert has been cutting my hair for 10+ years, always just right. If you are seeking a person, (salon) for a very nice, professional adult cut, then he's your guy.

I've known this salon well for several years and used to get my haircut with a woman who no longer works there. I decided that I would return, as I was planning to cut my hair short and thought it was best to make a big change with someone who really knew what they were doing. I decided to pay more and go to Robert. The first time around, he was careful and nervous about my hair (he looked repeatedly at the picture I had brought in), but in the end I still had a totally mediocre haircut with no personality - not good for $80 plus tip. The second time I went, I was more specific, but I ended up with a much shorter version of my orginally mediocre haircut and Robert did not at all listen to what I wanted. He gave me a completely unflattering haircut and when I went back in to get it fixed, he spent at tops 10 minutes giving me uneven layers and not thinning it out as I had asked. Thank you Robert for the crappiest haircut and worst experience I've had in about 10 years. There is nothing worse for a woman than having a short, bad haircut that cost a ton of money.
Pros: hair colorists are quite good here
Cons: attitude of staff it totally fake, bad haircuts

My hair is very straight and fine, and I like to wear it pretty short -- you should only see all the bad haircuts I've had in my life. Robert does a great job. He listens to me and offers his own ideas as well. And I like the buzz in his salon -- it's a warm and friendly place.

I have a big event in NYC wanted to get my hair and makeup done. I'm coming from out of town. I used citysearch to find a salon open on Sunday, the day of the event. I emailed this salon. They followed up with both an email and a phone call. I was impressed and booked the appointments. Now five days before the event I get a call that there will be no one to do my makeup. What?! It might be a fine salon but I'll never know.
