I'm honestly shocked by the negative comments I'm reading!! I've been a loyal customer of two-do for more than 3+ years. Over the course of that time I moved to a different city, then moved back to NYC. While I lived in the other city, I REFUSED to have anyone else cut my hair because I only trusted Sasha!!! (My hair was SOOOOOOO long when I moved back, it was disgusting!) But Sasha is incredibly talented, extremely friendly, and a total professional. Going along with what many other have said, this is the anti-snoot hair salon. If you want to go a place WITHOUT pretention, I seriously recommend coming here. I have never had to wait long, am always offered a cold beverage when I arrive, and I am always consulted before Sasha begins snipping away. I appreciate her honesty and opinions on what we should do with my hair because she's a professional and understands my hair's texture, thickness, etc., and what would look best for me. This place is SERIOUSLY a gem. I've recommended this place to many people, and I know at least 2 who are now regular clients. Until Two-Do, I was NEVER attached to a hair salon in my life. NOW I have a place to go to and get a killer cut! Thanks Sasha and two-do - you guys rock!

Pros: reasonably priced for Manhattan, cool space, friendly staff, killer cuts!

Cons: none

HELLO!!!! I RECENTLY HAD MY LIFE CHANGED BY YANIV AT TWODO SALON WHICH DOESN'T HAVE THE FEEL OF ALL THE SNOTTY HAIR SALONS IN NEW YORK WHICH I'VE BEEN TO WITH MY FAMOUS SISTER, JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS FROM SEINFELD, BUT IT IS STILL IS AS GREAT. I WOULDN'T MISS THIS SECRET HIDEAWAY IF I WERE YOU. IT'S LIKE A BEST KEPT SECRET, IF YOU'RE AN ANTIQUE HUNTER IN PROVENCE AND YOU FIND A GOLD MINE. AND FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS, THE PRICES DON'T EVEN COMPARE TO THE 5TH AVE. AND MADISON AVE. HAUTES. HAVE FUN!!

I wanted a new salon, since I have been paying way too much for a haircut. Came in and saw a man whose name I don't remember. He said my hair was awful and misstreated and yadda yadda... A trim turned into a Monica Lewinski hairdo. When I said my hair was poofy. He yelled and said it's not my fault you have thick hair. Also, I said I was growing out my hair and he kept saying he wanted to almost shave it and gave me bangs which I hate and stated that I didn't want any.... Don't go here ever

Now you're just being silly - and very unkind!

Dear Very Unkind, TwoDo has been on the Upper West Side for almost 15 years and our experienced hair staff (mostly long time employees) never, EVER yells at clients - and they know how to handle thick hair. Also, if your hair were really damaged and mistreated, we would just offer you a Kerastase Hair Treatment. We certainly would NOT threaten to shave your head. We are an upscale, boutique hair salon with incredible talent and down-to-earth attitudes. I sincerely question the legitimacy of this review, and invite the author to call me directly if there’s any truth in it whatsoever. Kevin Gordon (owner)

Went to Megan for color based on the rave reviews on this site. Was the worst salon experience of my life. In fairness to the salon, I made a lunch appointment which probably wasn't the best idea for a full head of highlights. I arrived at 12:30, was greeted promptly then sent into the main room where I waited almost 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge me. Had to ask about the water cooler, to get my own water. Megan's assistant finally did acknowledge me, but as a first time client, frankly, I expected to be treated more than just someone in a line at a deli. Was finally taken by Megan at 1:10. She apologized, but at that point, I should have rescheduled. She was friendly and did the highlights quickly but that was the problem. For $240, I expected a great experience and she missed a lot of spots trying to make up the time. I had to get my hair redone later, and my new hair colorist said I should have demanded my money back. I did reach out to the salon and never received a response. At my old salon, whenever a client was unhappy in any way, they went out of their way to fix it. Not here.

Pros: Avoid

Cons: Service, cost, physical space is very narrow and overall does not lead to a relaxing salon experience

No drive-through or deli lines at TwoDo Salon

Dear Brittany, On the contrary, lunch appts are a great idea! I’m happy you were greeted promptly and that Megan was friendly and apologized for being 15 min late to see you. She’s an amazing professional who rarely keeps a client waiting that long. Also, I assure you that your consult at 1:30 & 3/4 HL ($210) at 1:45 on Tuesday 7/22 was not rushed. In fact, there was no client booked with Megan for 30 min after your appt, and there's just no way she would have rushed you or “missed a lot of spots”. TwoDo’s policy is to stand behind our work. You know this Brittany, because you came back to Megan 2 days later on 7/24, for a color mousse (no charge) to tone down the front you felt was light. You bought 2 new products & seemed to leave quite happy. If you reached out to us after that & “never received a response” , no one here received that call. Otherwise, we would have called you back. Best of luck with your hair. Kevin Gordon (owner)

I had a great experience at Two Do Salon. Suzanne colored my hair. She took the time to go over the process with me, she took the time to go over my magazine photos of hair colors that I thought were good as well as gave her own recommendations. My color turned out great!

I just visited TwoDo Salon for the first time, and it was so wonderful, I felt that I should share my experience on this website. Citysearch is how I found TwoDo and I am so happy that I did. I am new to New York and I feel like every salon that I have been to has been over priced and pretentious with little skill or technique to back it up. Not so at TwoDo! They were so kind and down to earth. Everyone looked happy and they actually smiled! I had highlights and a haircut and both are exactly what I asked for! My stylists seemed to care about what I wanted and didn't just ignore me only to do what they wanted to my hair. They have the cute and private spa room for waxing while my color was on! I am so pleased to have finally found a place in this city that values the clients and the services!

Pros: great service, i love my hair!

I came to TwoDo thru some friends so i will not mention any names. When i first went to TwoDo i was given an appointment with Megan. After a few appointment i realized not only did i not getting what i was paying for but Megan was sloppy careless and made me feel like i was insignificant! She would start a conversation with me n then walk away as if to sat "i really don't care" ! i expressed my thoughts about my color to her n time after time it was not addressed! I then saw someone else n was made to feel uncomfortable and strong armed to see someone i did not want to see and to top it off was treated with disrespect from the appointment desk! The final straw for me was the new girl they have at the front desk! Rude obnoxious loud classless and down right unprofessional!!! Good Luck if u can get past the front desk.

I always find the true test of a haircut (for long hair) is not how it look when its cut or even a week after its cut-- but how it holds up after a month or so. I got my hair cut two months ago-- and I am happy to report-- it still looks good! I have very fine, thin hair and the wrong cut can spell big trouble. I have to admit, though, when I walked out of the salon I was a little traumatized because the sylist went a bit shorter than he had agreed.

Pros: good cut, no sticker shock

Cons: none

I've been going to this salon for two years. I have always received excellent customer service. Even though the space is small, once you're in the chair you don't realize anthing that's going on around you because it's such a personal experience. From the minute you walk in the door to the minute you walk out you get the highest quality of service. I arrive a few minutes early just to see the quality and effort given to each client. Each client leaves with a smile. I can speak from my own personal experience. I have tried various salons in Manhattan and nothing beats Two Do Salon for cuts and color. I get the best haircut from Danielle and the best color from Megan. I'm still getting compliments on my hair when I'm ready to go back to the salon. That's the kind of quality service you will get when you go to this salon. This is truly a "Treasure" to be discovered!

Pros: Ambience, Service, Five Thumbs Up

Cons: None

I tried this place for a year and got adequate haircuts. Nothing to write home about really. It's a crowded brownstone basement that sounds like a wind-tunnel with all of the blowdryers going. It's hard to talk or hear. They have a fairly high turnover of stylists. I had 3 three in the year I tried the place. They kept leaving or getting pregnant. The WORST problem though is the endless wait for your haircut when you get there. I routinely waited 45 minutes to an hour because the stylist was so backed up. I don't know if this was because of overbooking or because of the rude and thoughtless clientelle that think they can show up whenever they want, not realizing that their lateness might screw up someone else's schedule. An all around not great experience. There are other places around town that treat a client's time with more respect. I've been to them and I've decided to go back to them. It's worth the extra $$$ to be treated with dignity and respect.

Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: Rude clientele, overbooking, endless waiting for scheduled appointment time

Madison Avenue-quality color and cuts, minus the attitude.  See the full editorial review.
