SALON...

EVER!!!

I have shoulder length hair - which is not typical for men in NYC. Also, my hair has been highlighted to a shade of blonde not seen in nature. I called Friday morning to schedule a cut and color - fully not expecting to get an appointment. The friendly receptionist who booked my appointment for later that afternoon, asked questions about what I wanted to accomplish with my first visit to Two Do. Then, she actually got the colorist - Suzana - to speak directly to me! WHAT? THAT NEVER HAPPENS ANYWHERE ELSE I HAVE BEEN IN MY LIFE!

I want to talk about my experience in the salon. Suzana listened attentively to my needs and wants and took her time to perfect the shades in my new color. Prior to beginning it, She introduced me to Art, who would be cutting my hair. We chatted about length and layers and he told me that to go much shorter would not look good on me. Suzana began my color - and she told me exactly what steps she was taking and what they would accomplish - 2 different highlights, raising my base, adding low lights, then a toner and then a gloss. The cut with Art was one of the best I've ever had. He did exactly what I wanted and his understanding of my hair was apparent.

When I got a look at the finished work of my new colorist and stylist, I was in AWE! It was the exact color and cut I had always wanted but was never able to get ANYWHERE! I walked out of the salon with my head held high - feeling like a million bucks, but here's the best part - I didn't even spend an outrageous amount on my fabulous new look.

I cannot encourage you enough to go to this salon. I will never go elsewhere to get my hair colored and cut. Suzana and Art are true geniuses of hair - I cannot believe that it took me so long to find them. Thank you Two Do for the being the BEST...SALON...EVER!!

Danielle's Cuts Rock!

I have extremely fine hair and I'm always looking for ways to increase my hairs volume, usually by buying hair care products! After my cut with Danielle I noticed my styling time cut in half and my hair looks fuller simply from the amazing cut she gave me. She also did a treatment on my hair to create more volume which worked for the first two weeks. I highly recommend paying her a visit, you won't be disappointed!

a great haircolorist

I really like Susana! She is an AMAZING color specialist. I will continue going to her always. Her energy is amazing and she always delivers a complete haircolor, no rush, with conditioning. I never feel like they have overbooked her and I never wait. However, there can sometimes be a bad vibe in the rest of the place.you get to see them while your hair is cookin' A little bitchy at times, and stressful...Glad to be in the back room most of the time with Susana and having personal space! I don't understand the extreme hype. Honestly, I think some of the citysearch reviews are written by management.

A Great Little Salon, They Take Their Time!

I just found this place. I will go back because unlike some of the salons in Manhattan, this place was not snobby and I felt so comfortable here.

Ishmael (spelling?) was friendly and did an amazing, meticulous job on my hair color (which happened to take forever but it never seemed like he was rushing me or worried about the time...)

Danielle then gave me an absolutely awesome haircut. Thank you Two Do! I will be back.

A cool salon in a cool neighborhood

I've gone to TwoDo for haircuts, facials and waxing, and it's always been a great experience. Sasha is super-creative and always gives me a stunning cut. Joanne (my esthetician) is very gentle and precise and sweet. They both truly enjoy making me look good. Actually that's the vibe I get from the whole salon: friendly, low-key, professional, excited about their work.

I never feel I'm being pushed to buy anything, but the minute I ask about a product, everyone knows exactly what to recommend to me and why (for my skin or hair type, etc.). You feel like you're in very capable hands with these guys, which is nice because other places have this kind of factory feel – like they're churning you down an assembly line. But at TwoDo the people always have time to answer questions and discuss beauty regimens and whatever.

It's a cute space, too, with hand-picked art on the walls – I always feel like I'm sneaking into some private hideaway or little club. It seems to be part of a really cool, evolving neighborhood along Amsterdam.

I recommend the place to friends and out-of-towners alike, and a few of my recommendations have turned into regulars. Some people want more fireworks with their salon experience, so this won't be for them. But for a nice chill experience and quality "me" time, this is great place to get yourself fixed up.

GREAT FIND

I’m a woman who’s always on the lookout for a great stylist. Well I don’t need to look any longer. I found out about TwoDo through a total stranger. I was on my lunch hour just walking back to the office when I spotted a woman with an amazing haircut and great color. I knew if I didn’t stop her I would be kicking myself for the rest of the day. Needless to say, she was more than accommodating when I stopped her and asked her where she gets her hair done. She told me she’s gone to TwoDo for a number of years and has gone to a number of their colorists and stylists and has not been disappointed yet.

Well I made an appointment that day and left it to the front desk receptionist to choose the stylist and colorist. When the day of my appointment came I was excited yet anxious. I have to say this cut was by far the best I ever received and the hi-lites I got were noticeable yet natural-looking. I immediately felt relaxed and enjoyed being in a place where everyone was smiling and was very professional. All in all a very “beautiful” experience.

Great for haircuts and eyebrow waxes

I have been going to TwoDo for over 10 years. I have had 3 or 4 different stylists there over the years. I keep going back because the haircuts, color services, and eyebrow waxes are excellent. Every single time I get my color done I am told that if I have any hesitation over the course of the week, to come back in for a re-do. I have never had to do that.

That being said, it is not a perfect salon. After 10 years, Susana is the only person who ever acknowledges that I've been there before - but her hours no longer match mine, so I haven't seen her for a couple years at least. I often feel like I'm walking into a circle of friends who are too cool to talk to their customers - but when I want to hang out with my friends, I'll do that. When I want a great hair cut and color, I'll go to Two Do.

I love this place.

I'm honestly shocked by the negative comments I'm reading!! I've been a loyal customer of two-do for more than 3+ years. Over the course of that time I moved to a different city, then moved back to NYC. While I lived in the other city, I REFUSED to have anyone else cut my hair because I only trusted Sasha!!! (My hair was SOOOOOOO long when I moved back, it was disgusting!) But Sasha is incredibly talented, extremely friendly, and a total professional.

Going along with what many other have said, this is the anti-snoot hair salon. If you want to go a place WITHOUT pretention, I seriously recommend coming here. I have never had to wait long, am always offered a cold beverage when I arrive, and I am always consulted before Sasha begins snipping away. I appreciate her honesty and opinions on what we should do with my hair because she's a professional and understands my hair's texture, thickness, etc., and what would look best for me.

This place is SERIOUSLY a gem. I've recommended this place to many people, and I know at least 2 who are now regular clients. Until Two-Do, I was NEVER attached to a hair salon in my life. NOW I have a place to go to and get a killer cut! Thanks Sasha and two-do - you guys rock!

HELLO!!!! I RECENTLY HAD MY LIFE CHANGED BY YANIV AT TWODO SALON WHICH DOESN'T HAVE THE FEEL OF ALL THE SNOTTY HAIR SALONS IN NEW YORK WHICH I'VE BEEN TO WITH MY FAMOUS SISTER, JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS FROM SEINFELD, BUT IT IS STILL IS AS GREAT.

I WOULDN'T MISS THIS SECRET HIDEAWAY IF I WERE YOU. IT'S LIKE A BEST KEPT SECRET, IF YOU'RE AN ANTIQUE HUNTER IN PROVENCE AND YOU FIND A GOLD MINE.

AND FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS, THE PRICES DON'T EVEN COMPARE TO THE 5TH AVE. AND MADISON AVE. HAUTES.

Do not go here!

I wanted a new salon, since I have been paying way too much for a haircut. Came in and saw a man whose name I don't remember. He said my hair was awful and misstreated and yadda yadda... A trim turned into a Monica Lewinski hairdo. When I said my hair was poofy. He yelled and said it's not my fault you have thick hair. Also, I said I was growing out my hair and he kept saying he wanted to almost shave it and gave me bangs which I hate and stated that I didn't want any....

Dear Very Unkind, TwoDo has been on the Upper West Side for almost 15 years and our experienced hair staff (mostly long time employees) never, EVER yells at clients - and they know how to handle thick hair. Also, if your hair were really damaged and mistreated, we would just offer you a Kerastase Hair Treatment. We certainly would NOT threaten to shave your head. We are an upscale, boutique hair salon with incredible talent and down-to-earth attitudes. I sincerely question the legitimacy of this review, and invite the author to call me directly if there?s any truth in it whatsoever. Kevin Gordon (owner)
