I love cuban food and this place was very authentic. The inside is very colorful and there is optional outside seating. The waitress was somewhat ditzy and it took a little longer to get across to her, but after the drinks came out everything went much more smoothly. They had an excellent happy hour special, and the food is very well priced. They played a variety of songs by latin artists, which was awesome to listen to while [my group] ate. Will def go back...oh! don't forget to try the cafe con leche!

Pros: great food, cheap prices

Cons: ditzy waitress

My husband, his aunt and niece and I recently had a delicious breakfast (okay it was 12:30) at Cafe con Leche. The Cuban Eggs Benedict were yummy with lean pork and not a huge amount of hollandaise (probably could have done without the layer of creme fraise, if you wanted them a bit more low fat!) and the fried plantains on the side were perfectly cooked. The Huevos Cubanos (white rice, black beans, fried egg) were also delicious. The soup of the day, Chicken with rice, was tasty, but a bit oily. And the cafe con leche, perfecto. Overall, a very good way to start the day.

Pros: good food, attentive service

I had lunch at this small UWS restaurant for the first time today. My roommate and I were impressed with the friendly wait staff, cozy setting, and the side dishes. I got the Bistec a La cazuela (Beef and Onions-good) and my roommate got the Ropa Vieja (Shredded beef--excellent), but what stood out were the plantains and the rice&beans. The fried plantains were on par with what I've enjoyed in Costa Rica as well as here in the States. For the price, hard to beat. We got out of there, tax and tip included for under $20. We're going back tomorrow for breakfast.

Pros: Side dishes

Cons: None

Food is terribly bland. The cafe con leche (coffee) was very very weak. Service is good but the food is not worth it. I am an expert in Latin cuisine and would never eat there again. While the menu items offer a good selection, their preparation is greatly lacking in true flavor. In fairness to the restaurant diner, there is a better place down the street for authentic food...unless of course you are on a bland diet. On the positive side, their hot sauce is excellent although maybe too hot for many. They should, however, bottle it and sell it with the warning "Muy Caliente!"

Pros: Hot Sauce and Garlic Sauce

Cons: Bland food and bland coffee

I've eaten inside this small, charming restaurant, as well as ordered take-out . On both occassions, I was very pleased. The menu has a wide range of chicken, beef, or pork selections prepared Cuban style. There are even some seafood options, however, I have not tried any of them yet. Further, the portions are filling and the prices are extremely reasonable. The only knock that I would have is that their black beans are little gross. Try the red beans with the yellow rice instead. You also might want to call ahead b/c there are only 5 or six small tables available.

Pros: food, service, price

Cons: limited seating

Potent drinks, but otherwise nothing stood out. Average food at best.

I can't believe how great the food is for such little money! There is a large selection of dishes to choose from, plus an extensive drink and dessert list. The staff is a perfect combination of sassy and sweet, and while seating is limited it is well worth the wait.

Pros: Unbelievable food, inexpensive, easy location

Cons: , little seating

I have been to both locations. I give a 7 to the one at 424 Amsterdam Ave, while the one at 726 Amsterdam Ave deserves a 9. Food is equally delicious and well priced. The difference is the service and tables distribution; although the street view at 424 is more pleasant.. Do not miss the seafood stew and the avocado salad. A very worthy outing.. (Do not believe the negative reports: Go see for yourself)

Pros: Food quality, Decor, Price

Cons: Spoty service, A little crowded
