Great space, poorly managed.
by eb118
The Heights has two different places to eat: an interior with nice big windows that they open in summer and a rooftop. The clientele is overwhelmingly composed of Columbia students.
The food is mediocre and so are the drinks.
The service ranges from ok to downright awful. You get the impression that they must think recently post-adolescent girls in short skirts will keep the place afloat. Maybe they're right, but I'm anxious for someone else to take this space over and capitalize on its great spaces.
- Pros: nice rooftop and airy interior
- Cons: spotty service
One day I won't ever get back

My friends and I went to the Heights bar and grill today and let's just say we we're highly dissapionted. First we walked in what looked like an apartment turned into a restaurant. The waitres was very rude, she told us to sit wherever in a tone that says she didn't give a flying MOUSES BHUTT. We sat down to order and our food took 30 to 40 minutes give and take a few. The lady that was serving us was very unprofessional because she sat down beside us and was eating and would approach us and others with her mouth full. Our drinks never came and so we had to consistently remind her and that took a whole hour. In the end the only thing we were satasfied with was the water and the beautiful location. After that two tumbs down. Pro- price, location and water; con- food and service.
awesome

Now if I was a true addıct, I'd be addicted to their food. It is so freakin good I can barely stand it. Fortunately, I do have to be in the mood for something that heavy, but if you love your meat and potatoes, there is no other place like Heights?s Bar and Grill. The price is right and the food is down right awesome. They definately have the cure for what ails you!!!
- Pros: food,service,margarita
Behind closed doors

the food may be tasty, served by a friendly staff, but administration does not earn a star in this review. I recently learned from an inside source that the food was being prepared by illegal underpaid immigrants and the food is served by staff who are paid at a flat rate per hour, did I mention under the table? Oh yeah, employees dont pay taxes on those wages and the employer doesn't provide them with overtime, health insurance and probably saves a bundle with the IRS. Explains why people are overcharged for their drinks and food. Those employees earn this one star.
Decent margaritas, TERRIBLE SERVICE!!
by usctraveler
Went with a group of friends on a Friday afternoon and ordered drinks at the bar upstairs. The bartender was friendly, and the drinks were good. Since there were no seats at the bar, we asked to be seated, and the waitress (short, dark skin, curly hair) said that she would not sit us unless we ordered food. There was no place else to sit and the roof was completely EMPTY! Some of us decided we would be fine ordering food, so we were seated. When it came time to place our order, our waitress (a blonde with glasses) said that we did not order enough food and she would not take our order until we were ready to order more. Needless to say, the food was terrible (nachos are disgusting, chicken fingers are dry), and the waitress was one of the rudest people I have met. In addition, she tacked on a hefty 20% tip for her inattentiveness to our bill. We were ignored and treated poorly. This place has a good location and margaritas, but needs better staff and a better cook. Avoid at all costs if possible.
- Pros: Margaritas
- Cons: Bad food, worst service in NYC
Columbia students turn out in throngs for inexpensive Southwestern-influenced bar food and potent margaritas.

The Scene
Located a stone's throw from Columbia, The Heights is a classic student hangout that offers cheap drinks and loud conversation. In warmer months, large windows usher in a breeze while students cluster around the bar drinking frozen margaritas in a rainbow of flavors like passion fruit. Head up a steep flight of stairs to access the charming, intimate roof deck, which features a retractable rooftop and additional seating.
The Food
The mostly Mexican menu offers a wide array of inexpensive burritos, burgers, salads and sandwiches. Queso fundido is a cheese lover's dream, but snap it up quick, before it becomes cumbersome to scoop. The renowned wings come in mild, wild and--eek!--inhuman, and deserve their delicious reputation. A red chili shrimp burrito manages to taste light, even though it's stuffed with fixin's.

Friendly Neighborhood Bar Welcoming To All
by runner33
I am an African American. I worked at The Heights and the other restaurants affiliated with The Heights for 5 years. I have also been a customer many times since I stopped working there. I have never, at any point, experienced discrimination from any of the staff or ownership.
The Heights and it's affiliated restaurants are neighborhood institutions that are welcoming to people of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, gender and sexual orientation. They are comfortable, fun places to bring your friends and family for a good meal and drink.
I will continue to frequent the Heights for many years to come!
- Pros: The Roof, The Margaritas, The Burritos
Great Service, Great food
by cuchick
The service was exceptional. My husband and I eat out at least 3 times per week and know good service when we see it. Granted we had 4 different waiters/waitresses they ALL were extremely attentive. I'm not sure where the previous posts got their ideas from but the wait staff was extremely polite. On top of that the food was excellent. We both had a burger with salad. They give you a choice to have salad instead of fries which is nice and the happy hour margaritas are delicious and strong. The wings were also good. Now that we've discovered The Heights we no longer need to travel all the way down to Corner Bistro for a decent burger. All in all it was excellent.
- Pros: Great Service, Great Burgers Wings
- Cons: Cramped Table Section
A bit expensive, but great atmosphere and food
