reeeally good dinner!!1 great time

went to zocalo for a casual dinner with girlfriends, and we had the best time!! the atmosphere is really great, loud in the bar but very quiet and cozy in the back. we sat at the bar and had drinks- unbelievable frozen margaritas (passion fruit is amazing!!!1) once we wanted quiet time we headed to a table tucked into a back corner for some more privacy. As we usually do, my friends and i just ordered a bunch of different things to split. The waiter told us a few menu items were new and we had to try them. all of his recommendations were delicious. a new tuna sashimi dish stuffed with avocado and crabmeat was so delicious, and the truffle quesedilla was so good i could smell it throug the whole restaurant. for an entree i had the hanger steak and as a true carnivore , it was unreal. cooked perfectly and so flavorful. we all shared churros for dessert, they were ridiculous- i mean truly amazing. then we headed back to the bar for another round of drinks, and some dancing to great music!!! Deffinitely in my top ten places for a great night out.
- Pros: so much fun
- Cons: bar isnt big enough for dancing!!!
mediocre at best

I don't know about the sit in cuisine, but the take out was mediocre at best. For the price, you would think that the food would be better - not necessarily authentic, but just better. We had the beef burrito which was too salty, the fish taco which was a little soggy and the nachos which was just weird - one big soggy tortilla chip. The corn appetizer was probably the best part of the meal and even that was too mayonnaise laden. It's disappointing that in this neighborhood you couldn't get ethnic food at a good price. You would probably do better at Chipotle or better yet, go down to Puebla Mexican Restaurant and Bakery on 2nd Ave between 2nd and 3rd St. for real mexican fare at inexpensive prices.
- Pros: Convenient
- Cons: Take out is poor
Amazing food and service

I've been here 3 times and each time was excellent. One time was with a large party and they did an excellent job with service and the food was amazing. I was just there for my mother's birthday and our wait staff was super nice and offered excellent recommendations with entree's, wine, and scotch. We had a great experience as always.
Zocalo - Rarified Mexican food & Tasty Margaritas to Boot!

My husband and I recently went to Zocalo for the first time in a long while last
week, and we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a drink before dinner, and the bar
was filled with an eclectic group of people who seemed energized by the
potent frozen margaritas. The bar had a more hip feel to it than the last time we were there.
The hostess was professional, playful and very well informed. The restaurant was crowded, but she went out of her way to find us a table (we prefer sitting in the back where it is quieter). She later checked up to make sure our meals and the service were up to ?Zocalo standards.?
For dinner, I had a cheese quesadilla and the shrimp tacos which were both very extremely tasty along with a Frozen Bld. Orange Margarita. My husband had the organic pork ribs and the tuna appetizer (with seafood and guac inside)
After dinner we went back to the bar since Mondays are ? off tequila drinks. This nice little bonus was coupled with a bartender who was very social and well versed on tequila
variances. The Salsa (with chips) is unique and out of this world!!!
The Food is much better than its neighborhood rival Maz Mescal. The Wine Selection is very limited, but you should be going there for the Margaritas, not the Pinot Noir. And if the Dos Caminos Chain is the Blockbuster popcorn flick where they churn people in and out, then Zocalo is the award winning independent film where quality and consistency matter. We?ll definitely be coming back!
- Pros: Frozen Margaritas and high-end Mexican food are top notch
- Cons: Wine Selection is limited

I am a single male that recently moved to the upper east side and i have to give credit ,where credit is due and zocalo's margaritas carry a kick to them. I found out about this mexican rest. through a co worker of mine. She raved about the food and about the service so i decided to check it out myself. I went on a friday night and I have to say this is my new friday night spot before heading to the club. The crowd was young and hip the bartender was flipping bottles and serving shots. i think his name was JOSE because i over heard some ladies talking to him. The music was a little lame but I really wasnt there for the music. I had a salad wrapped in tuna and a special that was served that night which was delicious. The staff greeted me with a smile. I was a little confused about the restroom because i was not sure which was men and women. the hostess was hot as hell. There was a time that the bar was filled with ladies. i dont know what the bartender was telling them but they were all over him. I decided to jump into the action. Since this is just a restaurant review lets just say it was a "fun' time. well I hope to be back soon to this fine establishment.
- Pros: food alittle over priced
- Cons: drinks are kinda cheap for new york city

ive lived in the neighborhood for a while and had never been to zocalo. I actually walked by and asked an employee if they had just opened. But i took a peek inside and it seemed pretty cute so i came back with a friend. We had their frozen margaritas which were really good ( but man do they get you drunk). We also ordered a few apps. Food was very good- staff was nice, our waitress was good and the bartender was very very sweet. Its a really good low key spot... ill be back soon
- Pros: cozy, in the neighborhood
- Cons: the bar area was kinda hot
ALEXandra THE GREAT

Whenever I'm visiting NY , I always make it a point to visit Zocalo for my Mexican fix. Happily, I can say Zocalo is returning to the wonderful place it used to be. Don't miss the new snapper special. It's delicious, light and fresh! The short snobby guy at the front is gone, having been replaced by the owner's daughter Alex. It changed the feel of the place back to what it was years ago. Although the place was packed, Alex took special care of me and my party and made us feel right at home while waiting for our table. The place is fun, once again. The food and drinks are great, and so..................See you next time I'm in town, Alex, and thanks!
Good place for enchiladas and tequila

Zocalo is good, not great, although I have seen a lot of potential in the new summer items. They have excellent margaritas and staff is friendly. The food is pretty good but sometimes is served warm instead of hot but it is always filled with flavor. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It has a great crowd and it a lot of fun. There is sometimes a wait for a table, but I don't mind waiting in the bar area (although a little crowded) and having a drink and talking to the charming bartender.
- Pros: Tequila selection, guacamole
Our favorite Mexican find

My son and I have been coming to Zocalo since he was a young boy. This past week, after a couple of monthsaway, we returned for dinner. I am happy to report that the food was was spectacular, better than ever. The ribs were incredible and the Scallops divine. The addition of a young manager named Alex, added a new flare to the place. Zocalo remains our go to place. Do not miss out on this fun upper east side find!

My husband and I have been going to Zocalo for years and we cannot stress how amazing this restaurant and bar really is! The food is amazingly delicious, and keeps getting better with every change in menu, despite "chef rick" leaving. I have never had a bad experience or bad service ever. Its an adorable and warm atmosphere and our kids, who are now in their twenties love going with their friends for the margaritas. We love love love this place! Try the margaritas!
- Pros: food, atmosphere, area, quaint place with great drinks!
- Cons: no cons!
