Maitre d'
by emkenn
Sara, I agree 100% with you! I worked here for about a month and got on brilliantly with all the customers, loved the job but the maitre d' is a bully. I would encourage anyone to dine here because I know the rest of the staff to be lovely and very helpful, and the food is incredible, but don't waste your life by trying to seek employment here! The owner Mario is wonderful and really helped me out, but i wish he'd had better judgement in the maitre d'.
- Pros: Best food, service, location & atmosphere
- Cons: Maitre d'
Owners take action!

My name is Sara I am from France. I worked in Le Refuge for a week. The place is tres bon but the manager, well he is a voleur, arogant, rude ,treats his employees very bad. The worst part is that he takes full cut from the tips-TEMERITE!!!
I compalined of him taking money and I got fired. He barely paid me for the days I worked. I tried to complian to the owner but he made it imposible. Opérations illégales!
- Pros: great food
- Cons: attitude from manager
excellent experience

We had an enjoyable evening out tonight at LeRefuge . We enjoyed every part of our meal. First we started with crab cakes and goat cheese salad that my husband and I shared. Their Duck are Fabulous! We tried their Lamb Chops, & striped bass which was the house special this evening. They were delicious and the bread was great, soft as can be and perfect for dipping in your sauce. We will def be back and quite happy with the service. We were a bit early for our reservation and spent 20 mins just chatting with the friendly staff in front. Highly recommend and it's my new local favorite, along with York Grill. : )
best duck

I'm kind of surprised at the bad reviews here. I rarely venture to the East Side but was told to meet some friends here and was not expecting much. The food was actually quite good and service was great we had a nice bottle of wine. duck and beet salad was very good The waitresses, both of whom seemed to be eastern European, were very nice to us, willing to accommodate requests, etc. While I am sure you can find better french food in New York, this seems like a solid neighborhood place with reasonable prices.
highly recommended

Not impressed by this place at all. The prices, are high for what you get ...an attempt at ambiance, medicore food, and poor service.
Awful!!

Not worth eating there if you have to deal with the horrible maitre D! He is really something and I don't mean that in a good way!
- Cons: awful!
Great Food and Wine

We had a great experience here. Food was delicious and the place has a great wine list. Try the Sancerre as it is terrific. Staff was very friendly and the restaurant itself has a very cozy feel. Place was immaculate when I was there.

Great Place

A great place to frequent every now and so often, just to remind oneself "what a good dining experience is really all about". Granted this place might hurt your pocket book just a little, but when you audition all their eats and their exotic wine menu, it all seems well worth the $$. The service their is prompt and every entree there seems to be cooked just right. This place could have earned 6 stars, if city search had given me the option to.
