great food and service

i walk in on a saturday night and sit on the bar and a bartender gave me a cordial and friendly welcome to the restaurant. he gave me the cocktail list, i ask him to recomend me a glass of wine. he recomend me a rioja from spain wich was a delicious dry and full body wine, them he gave me a menu but i decide to see how well the bartender knew the menu. he recomended a steak on a mediun rare temperature that comes with brocolli. his recomendation past my expectation, the steak was excellent with the right temperature. i love it until the last bite. great service,great food, great enviroment, great music.

Wonderful Experience!

It has been a while since I have been to the restaurant and what a pleasant surprise it was going back last week. Atmosphere, service, wine and food were amazing. The menu has many entrees to choose from and prices are very good. I also love what they have done to the place. I would recommend this place to everyone. If it?s to have a glass of wine at the bar or to grab a quick lunch or a nice diner with friends, this is your place.

Quintessential New York neighborhood restaurant that embodies the best of New York

My Goddaughter moved into this neighborhood 2 years ago. That is when I discovered this wonderful restaurant, Hanratty's. I have taken her and her mother and other friends to this restaurant for dinner several times. We have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is wonderful. The food is good at a great price! The staff is great. It is the quintessential New York neighborhood restaurant. The tables are well spaced, so you never feel like you're being herded like so many NY "reasonably priced" restaurants seem to do. You will be treated well, respectfully and well fed and not have to drain your bank account. This restaurant embodies a New York City that is more and more difficult to find. I highly recommend it. Negatives? None. Go there after a great day at one of the world-class museums on Museum Row (5th Avenue). You will be delighted.

Attractive, unpretentious, and quiet

Been going here for years and find it is a place that's off the beaten path in Northern Manhattan that offers a quiet environment to enjoy a beer at the bar or sit down dinner. Wait staff is professional: dress in white shirts and ties and black pants. Food is mainly seafood but has other dishes as well and the bar is a decent size bar frequented by normal people who don't talk loud--a good place to meditate with a beer.

good local place

There isn't too much north of 96 street and madison. Hanratty's is pretty consistently good. The staff is always very friendly, and if something is not right they try to correct it. Many neighborhood people come here a lot so that says something.
