Great hotel, great service, great location!

by waynem67 at Citysearch

This was a fantastic experience for my wife and I. We stayed a couple of nights for our anniversary and had a great time. The hotel is beautiful with excellent rooms, very spacious. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom has a large shower, no tub, that was perfect for showering for two. The soaps and stuff were top notch. We pulled up in front of the hotel and located the doorman who took our keys and arranged for valet parking. You go inside a small lobby area and take an elevator up one story to the hotel lobby where you check in. A little inconvenient to have to change elevators to get to your room, but as someone pointed out it makes an excellent security system and is worth the minor trouble.

The main lobby is long and narrow with a lounge, seating area, check-in, and the restaurant. We ate breakfast there and it was very good. The lounge is perfect for having a drink or two and some light fare all of which was excellent. The service all around was surperb.

By itself we'd have been very pleased, but here is the value add that puts this hotel above others of the same class. I was e-mailed by the operations manager after making the online reservation asking if she could be of any assistance and to verify the reservation details. I mentioned it was our anniversary and asked for any suggestions she had. She told me about the hershey building Marquis were a personalized message can scroll across for 15 minutes at a selected time, and proceeded to take care of all the details and the cost after I sent her the message I wanted to display. My wife loved seeing this on our anniversary and it was quite thrilling to see our names in lights on Times Square. What a simple but amazing suggestion and how helpful to take care of all the details!

I was also surprised to see the plate of chocolate covered strawberries the hotel sent along complimentary along with a beautiful note from the manager.

For dinner Sangrai 46 on restaurant row - superb!

this is what i am talking about

love it, love it, love it.....what more can i say. we were a bachelorette party that stayed there, ages ranged from 23-28. We loved the whole decor and the location. Eric, the concierge was the greatest person. He will help you out with anything that you need. I t was my first time in New York, so you know I needed much help and he was there for me. He helped me even before I checked in the hotel, I would call him asking all types of questions. Love you Eric.

  • Pros: decor and Eric
  • Cons: price and made you pay for wifi

A Nightmare

by themeperks at Citysearch

This is a terrible hotel. Let's begin with the lobby. Oh, wait. There isn't one. You enter from 7th Avenue into a dank box with two rickety elevators that take you to the third floor, where you find... another dank box. This one has a tiny bar and several temporary desks. A video projector blinds you as you exit the elevator, projecting meaningless sperm-like squiggles in a possible attempt to distract you from the disgusting space. Following a twisting passageway, you arrive at three elevators. Two and a half, actually, as one of them was used primarily to trap guests throughout our stay - to the point that hotel employees - ever helpful - joked about it. Once you arrive in your room, the space is actually fairly nice, if somewhat dirty. As I type this I literally cannot converse with others in my room, because of the 'minor' construction noise that begins on the floor above at 7am every day. The location is great, right in the middle of Times Square. But don't expect a view - the side of the hotel that would have one is blocked by that giant Coca Cola sign. There is a view of one thing, though - the four other hotels you should have stayed at: the Sheraton, the W, the Westin and the Marriott Marquis.

  • Pros: In the middle of Times Square
  • Cons: Horrible facility

Basic luxury lives up to the Renaissance name.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Renaissance hotels are well-known for their cleanliness and basic luxuries. This Times Square location is no exception. A large clock graces the entryway of the attractive glass building. And the design pays homage to the Art Deco era, without being Art Deco per se. Mahogany walls, red-and-gray marble floors and dramatic lighting adorn the lobby.

The Details
The 305 guest rooms and suites have comfortable furnishings in muted colors. They feature numerous amenities such as three telephones (including two speakerphones with data ports), coffee makers and cable TV. Marble bathrooms are equipped with hair dryers. The entire hotel is smokefree. Enjoy fresh seafood at Foley's Fish House while taking in the panoramic views of Times Square.

Wonderful Hotel and Excellant location

by ajerry4444 at Citysearch

What an incredible choice for our first visit to NYC. the location was unsurpassed. The hotel was everything we could have asked for; excellant concerige services, equaled by the bell captains, the restaurant wait staff. the size and comfort of the bathtub was perfect for tired muscles. We spent most of the day out on the town, what a wonderful place to retire to and recover for the next adventure. We plan to return within the next six months and intend to stay here again. Houseleeping worked around our schedule!

  • Pros: Very reasonable, Awesome staff, beautiful facility

exceptional!

by soljc at Citysearch

I got this hotel through a name your own price website, checked in around 11pm and was out by 7am (didn't visit the bar or restaurant), so I wasn't there long, however, I was thoroughly impressed with the room during my brief stay.

Rooms were a good size, very nicely furnished and clean, and I particularly liked the large, marble bathroom. Staff was pleasant though my interaction with them was limited.

Among the hotels in Times Square, this is a personal favorite that I'd surely visit again.

  • Pros: clean, nice furnishings, big, modern bathroom

Shockingly bad.

by rhaazz at Citysearch

The Beverly Hills and London Renaissance hotels are great. This one stinks. Our room was not ready until 3 in the afternoon -- though we did see dozens of others -- who came AFTER us -- go straight to their rooms. The clerk was unprofessional, giggly, distracted. Entered the wrong exp. date on my card -- then acted like it was MY bad credit that had caused the card to be declined. No, girlie: YOUR mistake. Made many other mistakes with our reservation (very confused about checkout date, no matter how many times we reminded them.) Wine at the hotel restaurant: literally undrinkable.

  • Cons: unprofessional, bad restaurant, confusion, errors

Great View of Time Square

by uuc9633 at Citysearch

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. The view was enchanting. The staff is very efficient and professional. It is also in walking distance to most everything in Time Square. If you stay you really should check out the veiw from Foley's (the restuarant right outside of the main lobby).

  • Pros: view, location, excellent staff
