Terrible Pizza & Over Priced...Simply Not Good!

by Honest Critic at Citysearch

Pizza was not good at all!

Thin semi burnt crust with a few scattered toppings left us feeling cheated out of $26! Seriously there are MUCH better eats in NYC!

Don't waste your time or money!

  • Cons: Pizza was Terrible, Seriously! Try Dominoes instead

Pizza at the Bar

by justinfred at Citysearch

My wife and I come to New York a few times a year to get our pizza fix and check out a few comedy shows. Things were a little busy in the restaurant so we sat at the bar and had a lot of fun. We ended up staying for two hours! We're going back tomorrow to bring a pizza home with us.

  • Pros: Great Pizza, Fun bar
  • Cons: You'll go off your diet!

Top 5 Worst Post-Theater Experience

by RHD Actor at Citysearch

If you want to go to a place where the first member of the staff you encounter is extremely rude and where the "rules" are so inflexible you cannot have people join you later in a post-theater flexible way, this is your place. I will never go here again and would never recommend it to anyone. A concierge at the Marriott on the East Side recommended it to us and was shocked by our experience. She says she will also discontinue recommending it. Owner's should review their personnel and anti-customer "policies" (if in fact they are really policies and not just the ill-temper of some disgruntled staff).

I shudder to think what table service is like if this is what meets you at the entrance.

I grew up in the restaurant business so know a little of what I speak. If I owned this place and came in anonymously and observed what went on (not just to us but people ahead of us), a top-to-bottom review of people and policies would begin immediately.

Too many great places nearby to waste my money on this kind of operation.

  • Pros: None,
  • Cons: Rude inflexible staff are the first--and only--thing you see

Poor Service

by dr011284 at Citysearch

We were in town for the open and stayed a few extra days and had been told we must go to John's. The staff seemed to have a very good time standing at there stations joking and high five but seemed to forget about their tables. The waiter took our order and that was the last time we seen him until my husband finally flagged him down for additional drinks. Obviously the problem is in poor management. The pizza was great but don't expect much in service...maybe take-out would be best.

  • Pros: Pizza Excellent
  • Cons: Very Poor Service

Best Pizza

by Chalky at Citysearch

Visited John's many times on visits to NY and the pizza is still excellent. This trip, we visited twice and both times the service at the table was not as we remembered but would still go back again. The bar staff are great and keep up with the pressure with a smile when busy.

  • Pros: Pizza
  • Cons: Service

Great Bar!

by ElizabethWBklyn at Citysearch

I was going to a Saturday night movie in Times Square and my friend recommended going to Johns. I knew of the place in the village and was pleasantly surprised when we came in because the place is huge. We didn't really have time to get dinner (I was late) so we decided to have a drink and a snack at the bar. The bartender was so nice and helpful (and he looked like a husky Tom Ford!). He recommended a few things that were quick and we ended up getting an order of bruschetta. It was one of those nights where everything was perfect. Great, quick food, friendly service (and cute!). We will definitely be back.

  • Pros: Kick a**s Bartender! Awesome food! Nice bar!

Very Poor Service

by malabarop at Citysearch

Very poor service - inexcusable!

The restaurant was not very busy, but it took a good 15 minutes after we were seated to find anyone to take our order. Our order did come promptly - the salad over-dressed, would definitely NOT recommend the calamari (chewy, lukewarm, poor quality and not-so-tasty sauce) and a large (chewy crust) pizza. After that, no one came by our table to check to see if we wanted another drink or ask how we were doing. We had to signal for someone to come pack up our remaining chewy pizza and bring us a bill. I will not return - there are plenty of other places to dine when I'm in the city!

WORST ATTITUDE EVER - FOOD MEDIOCRE

by Char22 at Citysearch

It was the coldest winter day and I had company from the West Coast who were not used to this cold.

We arrived at JOHNS PIZZA on West 44th Street 4:30 PM;

A group of 3 and expecting 5 more people at 5:15 PM

We asked to be seated for drinks and appetizers THE ENTIRE PLACE WAS EMPTY this was not exactly rush hour. They would not seat us till the entire group came. So we said all we need is a table for 3 for appetizers and drinks THIS IS IN A BAD ECONOMY, and the place is empty; They refused to accommodate us.

I would have left, but I had no way to reach everyone who was due in 45 minuts.

The Manager was an "A" hole not interested regardless to the fact that the place was empty.

We had to sit at the bar, My group did arrive on time and freezing so we stayed.

It was still early and not until we were ready to leave did the place get full.

BAD ATTITUDE and I will never go back especially since the food was nothing to write home about.

IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT DO NOT GO THERE.

The food is not a reason to go and the attitude is a good reason not to go.

  • Pros: Great area for Tourists
  • Cons: If you are not a tourist - find another place to go.

soggy pizza

by sandrasprecher at Citysearch

I read about "Johns Pizza on line and decided to try it...I went 2 different times and found the pizza to be soggy...being a cook, I realized what was being done is they would cook the pizza with the sauce half way...then when an order came in...they then added the toppings...the pizza both times was soggy and the second time was not even that warm....BIG DISAPPOINTMENT...its a matter of getting a few good reviews then slacking off on making a good product. like I said BIG BIG BIG disappointment

Terrible Staff

by Foodaholic333 at Citysearch

The pizza tastes like any other. It's not worth deal ing with snobby hostesses and rude waiters. Sure, it may be New York, but I'm not paying for both overpriced food AND poor service! Our waiter came up and the first thing he said was "You ready?" Our pitcher of iced tea was filled to the top with ice, so we all got just half a glass of iced tea. And boy was it a struggle to get them to bring us glasses of water--which they never refilled. Worst thing of all, the people to our left were seated at least 15 minutes after us, and they got their pizza before we did. Never going back. The one on Bleeker Street was much better.

  • Pros: modern venue
  • Cons: poor service, overpriced
