Very cooool bar. It has a lcompfy atmosphere to it and the bar tenders are all super cool, nice people. They are friendly to everyone, not just the regulars or the people they know. The live music they get in there is really good, jazz stuff that makes you wonder how these talented people aren't super famous! Great spot in NY!
Pros: Great music
Cons: food is not as good as place itself

i have to give swing 46 an mediocre rating because it's an average of two parts: the food, which was overpriced for what it is, and the music, which was wonderful. my bf and i went for dinner and dancing on a sat night- there is a lesson at 9 before the dancing begins which is nice but i suspect that everyone else there did not actually need the lesson except for us! we were those amateurs all over the dance floor! the waiter was very accommodating and though we weren't in the main room (we made reservations that day and i was told on the phone that we could not be seating in the main room) because it wasn't very crowded we were able to keep our table the whole night to come back for drinks between sets. i cant see how other reviewers complain about this - if you make your reservations late how are they supposed to give you a table that someone else has already reserved?? anyway, there were some negative parts of the experience- namely, the food. my scallops were good, but not $26 good, and my bf's medium rare steak was burnt to a crisp and after waiting almost an hour for the food he was not in the mood to send it back and wait another hour to eat. despite that disappointment, however, we had a fun night and it's a great place for a special occasion date if you like this sort of thing. next time we'll skip dinner and just pay the $15 cover to drink and dance.
Pros: great music and ambiance
Cons: overpriced and misprepared food

Went to Swing 46 after discovering it here on Citysearch. My wife and I, along with a group of friends had a great time. Nice ambiance, very tasty food and great music. A pefect night all around. We've recommended to other friends who also came back with high praise. Fun Time!
Pros: food, dancing

Went to this "Swing" club last weekend and the experience for lack of a better word was awful. Our reservations which were set for 8:30PM were not even close to being ready when we got there at exactly 8:30. We had to wait 45 minutes-1 hour before we were seated. During this long delay, we were charged a "dancing" fee of $15 (we'll talk more about that later) and told to hang out at the bar. The bartender served probably the worst quality of wine I have ever tasted and the "normal" drinks were water-downed and tasteless. Finally we are ready to be seated for dinner. Do we sit in the band room where all the action is and where they highly advertise on their website........NO we are seated in the front part of the place by the window. We were told by the highly unprofessional, arrogant manager that "there is no more space in the main room and your reservations were made yesterday anyways". So here we were, sitting in the front with all of the music and dancing in the back room and remember we paid the $15 "dancing fee" The food was way way over priced and not too good. I must of drank 2 gallons of water since the food was so salty. The service was very slow and seemed to only have one waiter in the whole place. I must of looked at my empty plate for 30 minutes or so. At this point we were not feeling to great and wanted to leave. We requested a refund of our $15 each since we did not dance nor step foot in the main room. We were told since we were listening to the music anyways they would still have to charge us half, which was preposterous. I was never as happy as I was when I left this horrible experience and place. Please save your $$$ and look elsewhere for entertainment, drinks and food!

I love Swing 46! As a swing dancer, this is the perfect spot to come for the $10 cover to hear the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra (awesome jazz band!), have a drink and dance with friends. For all you non-dancers, there is often a free swing dance lesson following the first set. The atmosphere here is definitely what you make it... and in my experience has been a fabulous place for friends to meet hang out and talk in the back room, enjoy the band and dance in the main room. The few dishes I have had there have been quite good, but slightly pricy... however this is expected for Times Square proximity in New York.
Pros: Live music & dancing for only $10
Cons: $10 cover

Sunday night is the night to visit Swing 46. The dance floor is rarely crowded with amateurs, and the band on Sundays is the best. The Champian Fulton Trio provide great music for dancing, and especially for listening. The food and drinks are excellent - and the service is great on Sundays when it's less busy. Less tourists on Sundays too. I highly recommend Sunday nights at Swing 46. Champian plays every Sunday from 8:30 to 11:30 PM.
Pros: Music, Ambience, Food
Cons: Not as hopping as it could be.

This place has the potential to be a truly unique and inspired NYC experience. The space itself provides for an intimate evening of listening and dancing to some of the city's best big band/jazz musicians on a nightly basis. Unfortunately, the energy and excitment of the musicians and dancers jamming in the main room is marred by the apathy of the staff and managment which bleeds patrons as soon as they enter the venue. Having been to S46 several times in recent years, it seems like the cover charge has gotten steeper, the drinks more expensive, and the music sets shorter. Also, bring your own mixology primer, as I believe the bartender desperately needs a copy.
Pros: Great Music. Great Dancing.
Cons: Lackluster hospitality. Pricey.

I'm not sure the other three reviewers went to the same club that I did. If you actually want to see the band you have to have dinner (food = awful and any price). Otherwise you are forced to stay in the bar (a room away) after paying a cover mind you, and then suffer the amateur bartender who can't make drinks and has eight liquor store wines to choose from. This is a great place to ruin a live music experience. Thanks for nothing.
Pros: not many
Cons: too many

Brings back the supper club days. Went with my sweety for my b-day, and it was one of the best ones yet! Good food, service, dancing.
Pros: good food, good service
