great tasting inexpensive food

by peterc10036

I've been getting food from La Paloma for as long as they've been open and have always been extremely happy: great, fresh tasting food every time.

Favorites are the beef burrito, the enchiladas and in particular the Chile Relleno which I could get addicted to. The plain rice and beans, topped by fresh pico de gallo, shows how well they cook.

  • Pros: great food
  • Cons: a bit spartan, but atmospheric

So Rude

by lmw2

I just ordered from La Paloma-I get delivery from them a lot and have always enjoyed their food. This time, they came and gave me the wrong order-apparently when ordering, the person misheard me and wrote down the wrong order. I noticed immediately without opening or touching the meal and called to see if they could come bring me the correct order in exchange for the wrong order. I was told first that I would have to come in to exchange the order, and then after I told them that was impossible due to me being at work, that the owner could not send anyone to exchange the food. Not to mention, the person I spoke with was extremely rude to me the entire time. Never ordering from them again-unbelievable!

  • Cons: rude, terrible customer service

Deplorable Service and so-so food

by luv2eat2009

I have been getting lunch from La Paloma for years and have experienced smaller problems like a different amount showing up on my credit card and receiving the wrong order, yet I've overlooked that because the food was relatively good for Mexican in NY. However, today I really had a horrible experience with their service. I found something in my food and called to have them send me another burrito. The guy who picked up the phone took me through 60 questions about the object and kept saying he didn't see how it was possible when everyone in my office was leaning over me looking at it. I ask for a manager- he lowers his voice and with hesitation says he's it. Then he asks for my telephone number and says he has to call me back. Seriously???? I am appalled and ask why in the world does he have to call me back while in the middle of "handling" a customer service issue and he says something is wrong with his phone. He calls back 8 minutes later and picks up right where he left off... arguing about the impossibility of my finding something in my burrito. I ask for my money back as now with his massive attitude and belligerence I don't even want another burrito. He asks "Why?" Wtf???!!! So I ask for anyone over him (as I'd previously asked when he answered in a low voice he was the manager. Now all of a sudden the owner is there. I ask to speak to her; he puts me on hold and says she said I can come pick up the money if I want it. Excuse me? Any time I’ve had a problem with any eatery they have ALWAYS re-sent my lunch or money back. The audacity to as me to leave my office to come 8 blocks to pick up my money when one of their employees could bicycle over in two seconds with the change to correct a problem on THEIR behalf!! I ask to speak to the owner and he says she'll tell me the same thing he just told me. I said i still want to speak with her and he says she's outside putting quarters in her meter and that she doesn't speak much English anyway. I say I'll hold and he covers the mouthpiece and begins speaking to her in Spanish which I completely understand (she was definitely not outside refilling her meter). Finally, she comes to the phone after roughly five minutes and I speak to her (in Spanish) and she says she'll send someone to my office with the money and takes my address and phone number. That was an hour and a half ago and I’m STILL waiting. The guy's name was Gabriel (so he said) and I will avoid him & La Paloma's HORRIBLE customer service at all costs!

  • Pros: so-so food

La Paloma is the best deal in town!

by cpmac

La Paloma is my favorite neighborhood take out place. It has great huge burritos for a terrific price. The service is quick and friendly. The dining area is small, but not bad if you're in a hurry.

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Big Portions

CHX Enchilada Suiza

by darbinator

Great Mexican fare, reminds of the more authentic style I'd get when I lived in Tuscon, AZ. Great value, great portions. It's more of a take out place as there's little seating and not much ambiance.

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Great Take-Out, Authentic
  • Cons: few seats

My Fovorite Takeout

by dleo

Their burritos resemble the fresh, california style and are by far the best I've had in New York. From the tacos to the salsa to the burritors, this is the best peasant mexican food I've found.

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Fresh
  • Cons: Small Delivery Rage

Best Flan in the City

by stubbie

This place serves up large portions of excellent tex-mex food. This is a weekly regular place for takeout for me. The price is extremely affordable too.

Make sure to try the flan!

  • Pros: Cheap, Great Food
  • Cons: Few sit-down spots
