Truly a shame
by Bogframe at Citysearch
My grandmother took me to Lindy's when I was a kid in the 60s, and the food was great. The cheesecake was even better than the dinner. it was light, creamy and just sweet enough without being too sweet.
I took my (then) new wife there a few weeks after we got married and ordered the cheesecake. I took one bite and called for the manager. The disgusting mass on my plate bore no more resemblance to Lindy's cheesecake than tofu does to a porterhouse steak. What I was served was dense, heavy, slightly sour and gritty. I demanded and got my money back and will never return. If you want GOOD NY cheesecake, go to Junior's in Brooklyn. Lindy's is lousy.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Overpriced and food that would make Leo Lindy cry.
Don't waste your time or your money

My husband and I went to NYC to see a show and to have a weekend away. Since we are from Boston and have quite a few fine dining establishements where we are from, we decided to skip the fancy dining and to go with the popular local favorites while in NYC. Having stayed at the Sheraton NY, we were right across the street from Lindy's. It looked really nice from the outside. They claimed to have the "best" cheesecake amongst other good eats so we decided to go for breakfast on our last day. Surprisingly it was quite empty inside. Being so popular and all we expected it to be pretty busy. Once the menu came.....we knew why nobody was there. An average breakfast with eggs, toast, and bacon was WELL over $20. Of course they named their dishes something interesting to make them sound good like the "Jack Nickolson" but when you read what was on the plate it was basic breakfast items. A cup of coffee was $4.50 and a bagel with cream cheese which was one of the cheapest items on the menu was close to $9! We were close to leaving but decided to stay since we were already there. I ordered their quote "World Famous" cheesecake. It may be world famous but for all the wrong reasons. Sarah Lee frozen cheesecake is better! The only thing positive about our visit was being entertained by the other customers that walked in after us and the shocking look on their faces and comments that followed once they looked at the prices on the menu.
Don't eat at Lindy's
by aerosync504 at Citysearch
Ate at Lindy's in September of 2008. It was a very hot day and they wouldn't seat anyone inside. They made us sit outside in the heat! (maybe they don't have a.c.) The food was so incredibly expensive. I ended up getting mozzarella stick and my mom got chicken fingers and we split it. For the amount of money we paid there wasn't anything special about them. The waiter ignored us half the time. I will never eat here again and I would never recommend it to others. There are so many other places to eat in the city, don't waste your time on this place!!!
- Pros: Good location
- Cons: Food, Price, Staff...
Lindy's cheesecake is worst than instant frozen cheesecake
by kenshin24 at Citysearch
I paid over $7 for one slice of original cheesecake at Lindy's.
Not only price too high but the cheesecake itself was horrorable.
It is shame that they posted 'World Famous Cheesecake' outside
of their restaurant as it is big false advertisement.
My advice is DO NOT GO TO LINDY'S FOR CHEESECAKE!!!
- Pros: you can always find the seats due to not many customers.
- Cons: over priced cheesecake that is worse than frozen instant one at super market.
Worst over-priced food in the city

Talk about a tourist trap. Should've known by how empty the place was. Nice-looking on the outside, God awful on the inside. Very expensive (children's menu at around $11.00/kid), if not charred hot dog, dull tasting club sandwich. There is nothing good to be said about this place. The tab was as high as if we had gone to a fancy restaurant for dinner, not a diner for a snack. Awful.
- Pros: Nothing.
- Cons: Everything.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! Outrageous and terrible food
by deneegirl at Citysearch
I wish I read these reviews before going here! Prices are astronomical and no kid's prices....
Fruit flies were all around our table and breakfast for 4 kids and 4 adults was $205.00 with tip!!!!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't go for free!!!!
- Pros: waitress was excellent (of course because they get tipped well on 15% with these prices!)
- Cons: food below average and way too pricey....disgusting prices
Worst Service Worst Food Worst Prices
by xzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxz at Citysearch
Absolutly the worst place I have ever been. The service was terrible. Waited 15 minutes for some horseradish which should have been served with the cornbeef or on the table. The waiter could not have cared less. This is the one place that I have ever stiffed the waiter.
The food was awful and at $20 for a crappy sandwich it ruined the rest of the day. Bread was stale, meat was fatty and tasteless. The sandwichs came with some coleslaw in a paper cup just slightly larger the the type you put ketchup in at Wendys. It was runny and not fresh either.
The only reason this place still exists is because of people like me who remember movies and such where Lindy's was a part.
Stay away. Even the cheesecake was stale and awful.
- Pros: none what so ever
- Cons: alful food service and prices
excellent cheesecake, poor restaurant
by uradel at Citysearch
I will not eat in Lindy's when I'm in NY but I do order the cheesecakes to be delivered to my home. It is unfortunate that the food quality tanked and they price gouge because of the famous cheesecake. It's just ashame. While there are plenty of cheaper cheesecakes from popular mall factories, they are hypersugared confections that should not be called cheesecake. My family has been eating Lindy's cheesecakes since I was a child and they are true "cheese" cakes, the way a cheesecake is supposed to be. Not very sweet. They deliver anywhere in the country but order way in advance to get holiday delivery. Don't go to the restaurant diner. There are zillions of incredible restaurants and diners in New York, don't waste your time here. Just order cheesecake for delivery and you'll be fine.
- Pros: good cheesecake
- Cons: poor restaurant

Going to work, i stopped buy for a lunch! The place is huge as well the humor of the hostess! QAQ very friendly old lady! The menu is big and the prices also!!!! Be carfull one Burger cost 20 $ and they are good... The restaurant looks as a diner and everybody there is tourist people!! i had fun but the cheesecake was not good. The cherrues were old and sour and the cake, there's no flavor!!! I will continu choosing Chessecake Factory as my house to eat cheese cake.... and.. Its very expensive for a normal place with no decoration and a regular service.. I will never come back there!!!
- Pros: beautiful outside
- Cons: ugly inside!
Worst food and service in NY
by arwen_ny at Citysearch
If you want to taste the most revolting food at laughably high prices check out Lindy's, where you will also find incompetent service with an attitude. This is no exaggeration.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Bad food, bad attitude, extremely overpriced.
