We visited Rudy's Thanksgiving 2008 on the advice of a friend who has a business on 46th. It was awesome. The bartender greeted us immediately. The beer prices are incredible, and keep in mind you are only blocks from Times Square. It is an easy and safe walk, especially if you walk down 46th (Restaurant Row). The atmosphere is dive bar, which we loved. Everyone was friendly and having a great time. We are middle aged and some places are so young that we feel a little out of place. I can't imagine anyone ever feeling out of place in Rudy's. We will be back in July. Save a red booth for us!! Texas loves you!!

  • Pros: Great prices, great location, great sevice
  • Cons: Crowded and small....get to know you neighbor!

Best dive in the hood. I've never ordered the free hotdogs, but they smell pretty good. Just don't order one with katsup and make a fool of yourself.

Rudy's is okay. There are people that think that you have to like it, just because it is a famous dive bar!

It is alright. You won't be more popular if you go.

If you're like me, you love a good, cheap bar where you can get a pitcher of beer from a friendly bartender, sit down on seats that have obviously been repaired many times with duct tape, and make conversation with some locals who aren't pretentious jerks. Rudy's is that type of place. You can watch old guys drink away their pensions and meet fun young people, as well. Plus, something interesting is bound to happen and the juke box is great.

  • Pros: cheap, fun

Between the rocking juke box, free popcorn and hot dogs, my favorite bouncer named James, the duct-taped booths and cheap booze - this dive is one of the best bars in Manhattan... and I'm the type of Manhattanite who can be found at only the swankiest of lounges and restaurants. I hope this place never closes down! Where else would I go to ruin my $700 heels? I've never had a bad time here.

  • Pros: EVERYTHING
  • Cons: Could use a better TV

The Scene
Rudy's is one of the last bars in Manhattan where suits, slackers and lifetime ne'er-do-wells commingle in a laid-back, beer-laden haze. It's always loud and crowded, even when the backyard "garden" is open. And when you're ready to date out of your comfy little social circle, slap on your sluttiest lipstick or your spiffiest blue jeans and head here. Chances are you'll cozy up in one of Rudy's little red banquettes with someone new before long.

The Draw
Heated on one of those fast-food rotisseries and served with a plain white bun and a little mustard, the full-sized hot dogs are always free and always available--so long as "the hot dog guy" is behind the bar. The blackboard lists about 12 brews on tap, from Bud to Checker Cab Blonde Ale; Rudy's Red, the house brew, is dirt cheap but rather weak.

From outside, large pig sends quirky welcome. It seems shady from outside, but is a very welcoming place.large mix of people from old timers at bar nursing daily drinks to work crowd in area drawn because of cheap beer prices & free hot dogs. They do mix up beer selection occassionally(best right now are Harpoon IPA(Mass.,US) & Hofbrau(German).Hot Dogs are good but don't indulge more than 1 or 2.Great bartenders like Joe,Joyce,Robert &especially Yolanda(very pretty, funny & no-nonsense).Jukebox has changed couple times but hopefully will add more songs soon.Fridays after 6 are most crowded-try Wed or Thu after 5 for best times.Everyone talks to one another-i find that a plus most times.Sometimes you have to cut short conversation with old-time regular at bar.

This place has the cheapest beer specials. The music is really fun and not too loud and obnoxious. This isn't a place I would go every weekend. You kind of have to be in the mood for it.....and also be in the mood to be "asked out" the entire time you're there and see a lot of trashy people making out at the bar. Also, make sure you have your ID with you b/c you get carded as soon as you walk in the door by a huge guy with a flashlight.

  • Pros: drink prices, music
  • Cons: clientele is a lil shady
