Swanky interior, but hope you're not claustrophic

by meyers72002 at Citysearch

I'm a big fan of the Royalton and really enjoyed my stay, although the rooms are pretty small (even by Manhattan standards) and could use better lighting.

The foyer level bar scene is great - bring your expense account - and the hotel has a more relaxed atmosphere than it's midtown counterparts. Recommended!

  • Pros: Interior decor; relaxed vibe; great bar area
  • Cons: Dinky sized rooms

Haa haa!

I don't want to talk too much about the royalton. But in a few words: this is an excellent comfortable and classy hotel. The lobby, once you find the 'hidden building' is a treat for the senses. I booked the penthouse suite and enjoyed it for the night. No high traffic on my floor or in the hotel. I just noticed people 'glowing' or happy walking around doing what they were doing. I see why this is the hotel that started it all. Good work and good atmosphere. Now, if you read my review and you decided to visit make sure you keep it like that.

  • Pros: Great location, Responsive staff, excellent interior design and more
  • Cons: I had to eventually check out. Shucks! Seriously! I don't know because I had the penthouse suite which was awesome (had a balcony)

One of the most visually exciting hotels in the city.

The Scene
This cutting-edge classic was conceived by Ian Schrager and the late Steve Rubell. The hyper-stylish lobby resembles a fashion catwalk more than a traditional reception/checkout area. The velvet-lined bar sits inside the open-style "44" restaurant at the back of the lobby. Its curvy, lime-colored banquettes and tassel-draped mirrors attract many of New York's media elite, as well as models, stylists and photographers.

The Details
The lobby's sleek design aesthetic--crafted by Philippe Starck--is carried into the 205 guest rooms. They are furnished with mahogany cabinets and blue-velvet armchairs and have separate sitting and working areas plus cushioned window seats. The bathrooms have either a custom round tub built into a concave slate wall or a slate-and-glass-walled shower. Working fireplaces and lacquered boxes filled with Dean & DeLuca treats are some of the more notable amenities.

The Best Hotel In NYC

by emaynard at Citysearch

My Girlfriend and I checked into Royalton in Midtown Manhattan in March and the staff was amazing. I proposed to my girlfriend and the staff created an environment of rose petals, candles and romantic music. It couldn't have been more special. She said yes.

To celebrate, we enjoyed a romantic Room Service Dinner and the Chef created a personalized menu of his favorite dishes. It was truly the most romantic experience of my life.

The Staff is gracious, professional and attentive. The accomodations are clean, well appointed and "user friendly". I would definately recommend Royalton for anyone traveling to NYC!

  • Pros: Staff, Accomodations, Lobby Bar Service
  • Cons: Couldn't stay longer

Wouldn't do it again...

by nikolaos at Citysearch

I went with my girlfriend to The Royalton to stay for a weekend two weeks ago and chose the Alcove suite, given that is their largest room. I was very disappointed with the room, as the place lacked color and vivid light, it was gloomy and very monotonic, albeit its white chairs and fabrics. The bathtub was amazing, truly, but even in the bathroom there was rust on many corners and some "ugly" spots. Not worth its money basically!

  • Pros: Unusual lobby, Bathtub, Fireplace
  • Cons: Room - Atmosphere, PARKING!!!, Outdated - Overpriced
