GREAT EXPERIENCE- Fast, Flexible and Reliable!

by anguyen33 at Citysearch

I've moved several times over the last 10 years, and have used different moving companies. Flatrate has been, by far, the best experience. I worked with Mark Soules, who immediately made me feel comfortable that the move was in the right hands. He knew exactly what I needed, and followed up to ensure that everything was on track! I even needed to move the start time of my move to a time that typically does not get booked - and Mark made that completely painless!

The moving team came right on time, and were extremely professional. They were polite and did not complain or make gratuitous comments or noises (yes, I've seen that happen before!) They were also very thoughtful in the placement of boxes and items - careful not to put anything against the walls and what rooms items were to go into.

On top of all of this-- there was no haggling with prices - everything is included as long as you're upfront. There is even some flexibility if you don't know the exact number of boxes or items you have. The price did not change even though I had a few more boxes that originally anticipated.

The entire process was very professional and pleasant.

I would absolutely use flatrate again!!! and recommend anyone and everyone to use them!

Who Knew Moving Could Be So Easy and Fair

by gaugustus at Citysearch

I have seen the trucks around town and I have heard good things from others so when the time came for me to use movers, I decided to give them a try.

Now I can't sing their praises enough. What a great experience! Starting with my Sales Rep/Relocation Consultant - Mark Soules. He answered every question, explained the process and explained that of course if in the process of the move I had less items than we discussed then the price would be reduced; if I had just a few more items they would allow me some leeway and of course it was a significant number more the price would increase accordingly. so I knew going in what to expect.

Moving day arrives and I have to say I must have gotten the best crew out there. Mario Levia, Edwin Sanchez and Hector Sastre were just fantastic. Mario was the crew leader and before they started he explained everything about how they work and what I should expect. Once we got the paperwork signed, I left the guys to work and work they did. They were methodical and jovial and it made the experience so much easier. They handled everything with care as if it was their own.

There is no question in my mind that if I have to move again, FlatRate will be my first choice and possibly only choice and if I can get the same crew, all the better. Excellent Job Guys!!!!

FLATRATE MOVERS STOLE AND FLATRATE DOESN'T CARE

by mclombs at Citysearch

FLATRATE MOVERS STOLE OUR ORIENTAL CARPET, AND FLATRATE DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE HEAD OF THEIR CLAIM DEPARTMENT CANNOT DO BASIC MATH. THEY ARE PROBABLY LIABLE FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IF ALL CLAIMS ARE HANDLED WITH THIS ERRONEOUS APPROACH. the foreman of our move stole a valuable oriental carpet during the move. to make a long story short, we called frantically for several days and could not even get flatrate to return our calls. we had witnesses and evidence of the theft, which flatrate disregarded. finally, they told us to submit a claim [the carpet was a family heirloom, we just wanted it back, but several items of furniture were also damaged during the move so we submitted for those as well.] we were compensated for about 1/20th of the value of the carpet. as for the other damage, flatrate had a furniture repair specialist come to our home to assess the claim amount. during that visit, the furniture repair specialist repaired some of the damage [which i did not authorize]. then flatrate made us pay $155 for that repair work, when it should have been free of charge. look at this mind-boggling email exchange, it is word-for-word with names redacted -- this type of exchange went on for days, they insisted on applying incorrect logic to the calculation, and threatened to pay us nothing if we did not accept it. so we took the money and moved on.

(1)

[Customer],

If you would like to contest the value of the carpet placed on your claim, I am going to need something in writing that backs up your claim of $10,000.00.

As far the damage to the sofa; I did not charge you I simply subtracted from your claim total. Instead of giving you money towards the repair, I had the service company take care of it.

Sincerely,

[Customer service rep]

(2)

[Customer service rep]

Thanks for your response. I will put something in writing regarding

the claim amount for the carpet.

Also, please check your math. You have indeed subtracted the cost of

the couch repair -- $155 -- from the total claim assessment. $1084

for carpet (which I am contesting) + $185 for the dining table + $240

for the dining chairs = $1,509. You subtracted the cost of the sofa

repair from this total to bring the claim amount to $1,354.

[customer]

(3)

[Customer],

I stated below that I subtracted the amount for the repair from your claim.

It was an item listed on your claim and I took care of the repair, as it was part of your claim, therefore I would need to deduct from the claim total.

As I stated below, instead of just adding the "repair estimate" to your claim total, I asked for the repair company to go ahead & take care of it that cost goes towards your claim.

Sincerely,

[Customer service rep]

(4)

[Head of claims],

Yes, the amount should be cancelled out. Flatrate caused the damage,

and Flatrate should pay for the repair. There should be no difference

in compensation to me whether I paid for the repair or Flatrate paid

for the repair.*

Let's look at it this way, and assume that I had hired All Furniture

Services myself to repair the damage. The calculation in that

scenario would be as follows.

Claim:

Carpet $1084**

Sofa $155

Dining Table $185

Dining Chairs $240

Total Claim: $1664

Deductible: $300

Final Claim: $1,364

Payment to All Furniture Services: $155

Net Claim Amount to [customer]: $1,209

* I will not even get into the fact that I never authorized Flatrate

to hire someone to fix my couch. Flatrate told me that All Furniture

Services would assess the damage for the claim, I never authorized

them to do work on behalf of the claim.

** I am in process of contesting this assessed value for the STOLEN carpet

(5)

I'm sorry [customer name], but that's not what your coverage calls for. If we did not pay for the repair, then you would have received $155 and you would have had to pay for the repair with that money. You do not get the repair and compensation - it's one or the other.

Excellent, professional service

by whitecap70 at Citysearch

I just did an in-city move and would have to say Mark at FlatRate, who organized everything, and Boyan and his crew could not have been more professional, honest, and efficient. I would definitely recommend FlatRate to friends.

Great Experience!

by shortonline at Citysearch

I just completed moving from NYC to DC using FlatRate, and the moving team (Roberto & Mikey) and account representative (Lisa) were just outstanding! It was perhaps the best moving experience I have ever had. Roberto and Mikey were excellent. Conscientious, detailed, caring, respectful, and incredibly hard working, and my account rep (Lisa) had no problems with my indecision on what I was moving up to the very last minute. I would definitely recommend this to friends.

smashed my television

by scott11 at Citysearch

This company was horrible. They smashed my 50 inch plasma television. Then they only offered to compensate me 60 cents per pound. They also broke a lamp and showed up late. Do not use this company.

Great Movers!

by RAPierce at Citysearch

We hired FlatRate on a recommendation from a friend who had used them twice before. Mark Soules, our moving consultant, was friendly, thorough, and even checked up at the end of the day with us to make sure everything went well. FlatRate's price was fair, the movers--Jorge and Kelvin--showed up early and were friendly, clean, and neat. They also took care to protect everything with blankets and wrap. Our move was a small one--a couple of pieces of big furniture and some smaller stuff--and we only went from our our apartment in Manhattan to our weekend house 100 miles north of the city. We would definitely use them again.

Flat Rate…No Hidden Fees…Are you kidding me?!?

by jenna f at Citysearch

I’ve been waiting a long time to post this review….they no longer have possession of my items & their check cleared….what a nightmare!!!

The short story is that their claim of no hidden fees is a joke! I moved from CA to NY & then back (same locations). I had the identical inventory & yet I was charged an extra $415 when they picked up my items in NY (if I didn’t pay they would have left my property & charged a cancellation fee). I was threatened with a $295 fee if their 18 wheeler couldn’t fit in my complex in CA & an extra $650 fee if I wasn’t available during the entire 7 day delivery window they gave me (getting a delivery when it was convenient for me wasn’t an option). Of the $765 in damage FlatRate did to my property they paid me $200 because I am a valued customer (if I wasn’t a valued customer they would have paid me $144). I paid fees of $980 over my $2600 original quote for a total net moving cost of $3580 (not including storage fees)!

Love Flat Rate Moving!

by K MR at Citysearch

Flat Rate was phenominal from the pre-move, to the actual move. I worked with David Onkin who always returned my phone calls and emails promptly. He relieved my stress that was created by speaking with competitors by assuring me Flat Rate was the best service around. In addition he negotiated the price of my move and upgraded my service.

The day of the move the men were on time, professional, curteous and efficient. I had a move with 2 drop offs in multi states. They made zero mistakes what moved where and nothing was damaged in the move. In fact I've never seen furniture and valuables wrapped and packed with such care as Emery oversay with his team (Kamal and Bre).

I couldn't be happier with my decision to use Flat Rate for my recent move and I will continue to use them go forward for all of my moves.

Thank you David and Emery for an amazing job well done.
