GREAT ATMOSPHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been here several times and I always have a great time. They have the best prices and service downtown. Come on Thursday for $10 special and the food is incredible as well. Leave cell phone home no reception which could be good depending on if you want to be reached or not.
- Pros: STAFF, SPACE IS TREMENDOUS
- Cons: DOWNSTAIRS
lunch special is cheaper than fast food

had a burger special with four clients it was totally different than any place they had been. They were from england and enjoyed the bartender while waiting for my arrival. Its nice to know clients are taken care of when you are running late. plus the bill with drinks and lunch was under $80 for 4 people. what a deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Pros: great service
- Cons: basement bar

To my former Wall St. "area" peers I went to JSBG recently and was saddened to see how far it has fallen from grace of the good old days. (1990 - 9/10/2001). (The short white male bar tender with the blond pony tail was the best during those times) ... when the after work happy hour was exactly that. Corporate white collar professionals cooling out .(like Mad Men) even on Saturdays , when we worked 1/2 day and went to JSBG to shoot pool, the old juke box was free all day and the lunch food was great. I gave it two trys , on the 2nd I saw a fight break out over pool game rules. There is an young rowdy crowd there now and you cant even leave change (for anything over $20 on bar to go to bathroom, it wont be there when you get back.
- Pros: size of bar. memories of old JSBG
- Cons: young rowdy crowd, jukebox, pool game fights
Reasonable Drinks, Awesome Bartender!!!!
by JOHNNY
I went to John Street with a couple friends of mine that were visiting from Houston. There was a bartender working named Maureen. She was accomodating and totally awesome. She made us feel right at home as soon as we walked in. Try their John St Ale, it was only 4 bucks and tasted great!!! She suggested it when we were deciding. I'd recommend this place to anyone. There was such a diverse crowd there. We had a blast! Not sure which nights she works, but it was a Friday when we went in. Go see her, she's hot!
- Pros: Cheap Drinks, Good Jukebox
- Cons: Bathrooms could be cleaner
LIVE MUSIC SHOW
by downtwntrver
I READ A REVIEW ABOUT THIS VENUE AND I DONT KNOW WHAT THIS GUY MOCH IS TALKING ABOUT .
MY BAND HAS PLAYED THERE THREE TIMES AND HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED IT. I DONT KNOW IF THIS PERSON REALIZES THAT THE BAND BRINGS THERE OWN CROWD THE BAR DOESN'T BOOK ANYONE IT IS DONE BY O.S. ARTHOUSE. SO IF YOU COULDN'T GET A CROWD THATS THE BANDS FAULT NOT THE VENUE'S. THIS PLACE HAD AWESOME FOOD AND GREAT DRINK SPECIALS SO I DIDN'T HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING FANS OF MY BAND THERE AS WELL.
- Pros: GREAT ATMOSPHERE VERY ROOMY
- Cons: I COULDN'T FIND ONE
If you're a music band, don't ever be duped into playing here.

This bar and grill has a private room where they book live music acts, not that anyone in the bar and grill area would know it. I went to see my favorite band there. There was zero indication that there were live bands playing. The private room is located at the very back with sound proof doors just in case anyone in the bar/grill heard the music and might want to come in and listen. The bands played their hearts out without a virtually non-existent audience. There was a Sure microphones banner at back of the stage. Presumably Sure paid the John St. bar to display it. Sure got ripped off. John St. bar and grill should never repeat never book live bands again. They had no consideration for the musicians whatsoever. Oh, I should also mention that the room was the saddest place ever. Jut a big bare empty room with a couple of couches and hard-back chairs. The only decor was a couple of pieces of tattered tinsel left over from Christmas.
Dark, Dank but Darling

I'm part of a weekly Wednesday drinking group of 30 or so regulars who love to drink, geek out, talk and eat after work. We check out a different bar each week. We've been kicking around the city for 12 years. In that time we've visited several hundred bars (with repeats of faves). John Street Bar & Grill has a dark, depressing, divey atmosphere, with greasy food, but, with lots of space for pool, darts and decent beer. Our waitress was friendly, remembered our orders and kept our glasses full at all times. It was not crowded, had a hallowed feeling about it, as if it was the place Wall Street crooks came to plot the sinister defeat of the competition.
- Pros: Decent beer selection & service, Spacious
- Cons: Dark, Greasy spoon
