avoid at all times

I'm not sure what others are talking about but this is by far the dirtiest spa i've ever seen!!! If you want a real 'banya' experience, go to 10th street. They don't try to be something they are not! It's plain, clean and deliveres. Here, you get....nothing! Ando sorry, $36 for a filthy pool, jacuzzi and 2 steam rooms is waaaay too much.
Best heat!

Spa 88 is a no-frills place. Don't expect elaborate tile or breathtaking decor. This place offers fantastic Russian sauna, that by far has the best heat in NYC! The place is clean, people are friendly, and on weekends the crowd is young. I strongly recommend this banya!
- Pros: Fantastic heat
- Cons: tough to find parking
Wonderful Banya
by xtiffysweetzx at Citysearch
This banya has everything you need for a great price. It's very clean and the staff was very helpful. Made my day relaxing with my boyfriend very enjoyable. I will definitely be going back again.
- Pros: price, cleanliness, open late
- Cons: hard to find a seat
SPA 88 NICE & CLEAN STAFF NICE ALSO!!!!
by coolsista56 at Citysearch
Wow!! I read all fourteen reviews and I must admit the last one IS what I agree with. I went to SPA 88 today and it was clean. There were no insects, the staff was very helpful and nice. Actually I had them download this page to read some of the awful things people have said. I have gone to many SPAS here in NYC five star at that and I must say SPA88 was great! Relaxing, many places to sit, an area to eat, the pool was clean as well as the Jacuzzi. The lounge areas people relaxed and there were no misfits.
The women's locker room was cleaned on the hour, the steam room was excellent. The towels were CLEAN! So I really believe the manager was right sometimes people say things to ruin the reputation of the establishment. NOTE go see for yourself?.You can not believe everything you read!
Highly recommended GO for a visit!
Great as always

My visit to the spa a few weeks ago was another spectacular one. I took my friends in from out of town and yes, they were surprised by the large space inside and the number of patrons on that day but they loved the amenities.
I once again highly recommend it and hope you guys try it out.
- Pros: Service and amenities
- Cons: ?
Unexpected

I'd always walk past this place and never imagined how large it was by looking at the small quaint entrance that leads down to their front desk. It's a pretty standard and traditional Russian bathhouse so don't go in there expecting club med. For some it adds to the charm and other's will be disappointed with the classic Russian atmosphere. Don't be intimidated since there are all sorts of people enjoying the reasonably priced amenities offered. Be sure to understand that the service is not spectacular and just do what you do and let them do what they do and there will be no complaints.
- Pros: price
- Cons: hospitality
Three floors of swimming, steam rooms and spa services, all with a Slavic twist.

A pink and turquoise reception area welcomes all-age visitors into this traditional Russian bathhouse. Memberships and day passes include access to the Russian and Turkish saunas and steam rooms (or "banya") for shvitzing and schmoozing. Platza--an ancient treatment that kneads your back with softened oak leaves to detoxify and relax the body--increases the day's restorative benefits, as do dips in the junior Olympic-size and cold-plunge pools.
Winter is here. heat heat and more heat

Welcome to the banya! Now go to the russian room and schvitz for 5 minutes, jump in the cold pool and repeat three times. Then sit here and write your review!! SPA 88 is a great place to go with your friends to hang out or chill (pun) out. Great place to socialize. Santa (yes that's the managers name) keeps it all together. The restaurant has great cuisine. I love this place and have been going since 1999.
PROS: The best heat in NYC.
CONS: You have to know how to schvitz-no coaches!
- Pros: Great Heat
- Cons: Very limited floor staff
