The History
Opened in 1955, this branch is located in the landmark Harlem River Houses Project. Its name is derived from the nearby historic Macomb's Dam Bridge which connects 155th Street in Manhattan to Macomb's Bridge Park and Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. (Alexander Macomb was an early 18th century merchant whose son Robert had the drawbridge built.)
The Collection
The library houses a large African-American Studies collection as well as multicultural selections of poetry and plays. Considering the library's size, the juvenile collection is also strong. Services include story hours, films and special events for children, as well as adult education.
