Bland wine, nutmeg flavored mushy "lasagna", staff who does not really want make the customer happy.

I live in the neighborhood and always had wanted to try this place. I finally thought I would treat myself to a nice Italian meal as I was hungry. I was told the lasagna was very good. I ordered that and the house chianti. The chianti tasted very bland and had a painty taste to me. I mentioned that I did not like it, but the was told that many people really liked it (rather than offering me something else). The lasagna arrived, a rectangle surrounded by a pink cream sauce (pretty to look at). The top had something very mushy on it...It basically was all mushy all the way through; .no distinguishable layers, no pieces of sausage, melted cheese, just mush. The worst thing about it was a large taste of nutmeg. When asked if I like it.. I said "No, not really" . It tasted like nutmeg and I didn't like nutmeg. No replacement offered.. I ate briefly, so as to have some nourishment..perhaps one third. then finished my wine and left.
The meal was a hugely disappointing $25 plus with tip..no salad of course or anything green with the pink mush. I decided to call the manager and tell him of my disappointment with the lasagna. For some reason I thought he might offer me something else in the future. I hated the nutmeg. Was the mush veal I wondered? I never usually eat veal. I had wanted a red sauce and a classic lasagna with meat, mozzarella, and maybe sausage. His response was that I should have said I didn't like it to the bartender.. I said I had, but he argued that I had not.. He had noticed. Then he said I had eaten over 1/2.. seemed more like 1/3 to me, I did that to not waste the $15. plus and wanted to get some food into me. At any rate, there was no offer of any replacement... Instead I received the same answer the bartender gave me about the chianti, "Many people like our lasagna""It is very popular". I would never go back and never recommend this restaurant..
- Pros: nice neighborhood nice ambience
- Cons: bland wine, bland food, the customer is not right there..not aiming to please
Great Pasta!

After my favorite Italian joint on the UES closed 8 months ago, I wandered from restaurant to restaurant wondering if I would ever be happy again. I had walked past Pesce Pasta numerous times --it was only a block from my apartment --but never had taken notice. One day it seemed to shout at me "Eat here!? And so I did. My girlfriend and I now introduce all visitors to it as the best Italian in the city. Try the gnocchi --it melts in your mouth--and the Pasta Fagioli and the antipasto and....! Service is not rushed and very friendly. Prices are reasonable.
There's better....

We shared an antipasto plate, lobster fra diavolo and brocolli rabe. The antipasto was tired, the lobster (unshelled) was smothered in an over abundance of (average) sauce (unshelling it was a mess!) and the rabe was particularly bitter. With 2 drinks and coffe the bill was around $50. The place was crowded when we got there so perhaps some of the other dishes are better? The large pasta portions looked interesting.
This place is Horrible!

I ordered the special of the day which was described as Shrimp, Scallops, Calamari, Clams, Mussels and Lobster Tail over Linguini. I got a bowlful of these awful Baby Clams and two tiny Langostinos. It was one of the more expensive things on the menu.
When I told the waiter that I was unhappy, he just looked at me like a Deer in headlights and walked away.
These People Are Pathetic!! They have no sense of quality or integrity.
- Pros: None

Cozy, very consistent, good for locals, food is always fresh and flavorful. A long time favorite.
poor wine glasses

i still like this place. its comfortable and food is fine quality. i think the service has slipped as of late and cost cutting seems to be on the owners mind. The pasta used to much fresher. my major complaint - the little wine glasses. you used to be able to order a bootle of wine and have larger breathable glass - not any more. i was told they broke to often in the washer. you know what - then just buy more when they break - thats life.
- Pros: antipast, service
Overall, Bad experience
by karabolesky
The service was terrible, and the food was equally lousy. We sat right near a buffett, and watched as people from the bar picked up pieces of food, sniffed them, and placed back down. Also, the iced tea tasted like vingegar, so we refused to drink it, yet they still charged us. Overall, cute place with poor service, and even worse food. Do not recommend!
- Cons: Odd smell, Small Menu, Poor food/service
Feels like Tuscany

Been to Italy 4 times, and this place reminded me of why I love it so much. Food - fabulous, al dente pasta, fresh seafood, authentic to the core. Service - traditional male italian waiters, efficient and friendly. Price - haven't found a better deal in the city, almost felt guilty not paying more. Decor - warm, cozy, like a country side trattoria. EXCELLENT, GO.
- Pros: inexpensive, authentic, cozy
